To only want to dress my 7 week old baby in

Babygro's???
Tis my first child and I'm not surrounded by other mothers it just seems so uncomfortable to put a tiny baby in pinafores etc when she could be all snuggly in a babygro. I change her inthe morning and after her bath etc so she's not in the same one she sleeps in. However following the story of Cardiff mums shopping in fresh pyjamas I wondered if this was the baby equivalent, come and let me know.
I do take her out in them too under warm jackets and sleep suits etc.

I kept both my DCs in babygros until they were cruising, then I put them in comfortable stretchy trousers and tops.

BariatricObama · 26/02/2010 10:08

there is no need to dress you baby. i remember my mother spouting some nonsense about distinguishing night and day time through clothes. oh really mother, i if i put dd in a ra ra skirt and some nike trainers she will suddenly start sleepinga t night?

nickytwotimes · 26/02/2010 10:08

Yanbu.

Most practical thing.

Really dislike harder fabrics on wee ones, like denim.

Ds had a few 'outfits' but they were made of babygrow type fabric and really easy to get on and off.

plumblossom · 26/02/2010 10:09

Babygro's are all your little one needs at this stage, as you say she'll be all warm and snuggly and much more comfortable too. I also found it much easier to take my little one in and out of babygro's at that age when she'd done a big poo rather than some complicated little outfit.

fernie3 · 26/02/2010 10:10

no I always keep mine in babygros at that age unless we are going somewhere special (to see grandparents etc).

5DollarShake · 26/02/2010 10:11

No, I agree - little babies should be in babygros!! They're only tiny for so short a time.

It most definitely is not the equivalent of shopping at Tesco in your nighty!

I think tiny babies in clothes can be cute, but can also very easily stray over into looking a little bit chavvy awkward and uncomfortable on babies.

Bathsheba · 26/02/2010 10:12

Well, I have a 6 week old and I get her dressed every day - not in "hard" clothes or stiff clothes, like jeans or denim pinafores but very definately a distinction betwen daytime clothes and night time clothes.

But the main reason I do this is pure warmth - I live in Aberdeen, we are in and out all day, and I really do think she would be way to cold in a sleepsuit all day, even with a vest underneath it.

Maybe if she was a summer baby it would be different but it was -6 on the school run the other day and she needed 6 layers on..!

susiey · 26/02/2010 10:13

whatever suits you really I found I liked to dress mine for the day but that was just me.

If I had felt differently I would have put them in babygros all day

learn this parenting mantra
within reason if it works for your family then ignore what other people are doing/saying

SheWillBeLoved · 26/02/2010 10:40

DD is 7 months and lives in them! Now and again I'll put her in babygro type material pants/top, but that is very rare. I see no point in putting her in 'proper' clothes, only for her to shit up the back of them an hour later I also like babies to look like babies, and not shrunken adults or some sort of fashion statement.

cakeywakey · 26/02/2010 10:54

I was changing my DD up to six times a day for the first few months - her bum was like a reverse black hole. So for that reason, she was mainly in babygros and looked very cute and comfortable. There's plenty of time ahead to dress them up in all of the supercute outfits you can get

FlyingFandango · 26/02/2010 10:54

I do the same, my son is 4 months old and he is in babygro's most of the time, either that or soft trousers and tops. I prefer babygro's as I don't have to bother with socks. I can never keep socks on him, he kicks them off and I'm always finding odd ones here and there.

WorzselMummage · 26/02/2010 11:03

my 14mo is still in babygros most of the time. He does wear jeans and stuff too when i can be arsed.

TweedyneeCole · 26/02/2010 11:06

My first child was in outfits from day one. All the fashion and shopping options were just so exciting [grin[. Second child - babygrows for the first year. So much more practical and comfy. I now think that babies in full on outfits look chavvy.

Oh, go on - berate me for using the C word, I don't give a monkeys! Eight week olds in jeans = Jordan-tastic

GlendaTheGrizzlyPiggy · 26/02/2010 11:09

YANBU. My DS is almost 6 months and he practically lives in his babygros. It's so much easier than faffing around with buttons, socks and waistbands.

When he was tiny I felt like I should be putting him in little outfits because so many people bought us lovely but impractical clothes. I was very happy when he grew out of all his first size stuff. I went and bought a load of lovely soft babygros and a few tops and trousers with feet.

QueenMercury · 26/02/2010 11:13

I dressed both my ds's in baby grows until they started nursery when they were sort of expected to wear 'proper clothes'.

MrsPixie · 26/02/2010 11:21

can't stand outfits for newborns yuk

DD was in babygrows vests and cardis for ages

BertieBotts · 26/02/2010 11:24

You can buy really cute babygros - Boots have some lovely ones at the moment. DS is too big now to wear them even at night and I always feel sad when I see some nice ones and want to get them!

PacificDogwood · 26/02/2010 11:26

Another vote for babygrows all the way - cosy, no socks falling off skinny newborn legs, no silly dresses around baby's neck, easy to change when puked/pooed upon and cute!

In fact, I want one - there was a thread about all-in-on PJs with feet for adults on here recently...

displayuntilbestbefore · 26/02/2010 11:29

yanbu
All 3 of mine lived in sleepsuits for their babytime! Much less fiddly than trying to do up buttons on tiny pairs of trousers, nic and cosy and comfy for the baby, less hassle for the parent.
I was sorry to see them grown out of them but then found a lovely velour sleepsuit in Marks' that ds3 (2yrs old) is now very attached to! Has the feet just like a babygro but the poppers are up at the top instead of being down the legs. He's so cuddly in it, it's quite ridiculous!

sockmonkey · 26/02/2010 11:29

I love babygrows. So easy!
Plus they look like babies for longer, you put them in outfits & suddenly they look a bit too grown up.

Sidge · 26/02/2010 11:40

YANBU. Babies seem so much comfier in babygrows.

My girls wore them for months - they would have white or plain pastel ones for sleeptime at night then in the morning I'd change them into a 'pretty' one, eg one with a little picture or embroidery on.

Much easier for changing, less laundry (and no ironing) and you can add little cardies or even socks underneath if it's cold.

crocdundee · 26/02/2010 11:42

Babygros everytime, maybe a nice outfit for a special occasion (but never ever jeans!).
Always strikes me as ridiculous when I see newborn outfits with poppers/zips down the back. Why would would you want your child to be lying on those all day?!

TinaSparkles · 26/02/2010 11:43

I think all my DDs clothes were far too big for her (even the newborn stuff) till she was 3 months old so I only really had sleepsuits as an option. Not that I felt compelled otherwise.

I then felt that I had to make an effort if I was taking her somewhere special, but just popping to the shops and around the house it was definitely babgros for ages.
