To only want to dress my 7 week old baby in

Babygro's???
Tis my first child and I'm not surrounded by other mothers it just seems so uncomfortable to put a tiny baby in pinafores etc when she could be all snuggly in a babygro. I change her inthe morning and after her bath etc so she's not in the same one she sleeps in. However following the story of Cardiff mums shopping in fresh pyjamas I wondered if this was the baby equivalent, come and let me know.
I do take her out in them too under warm jackets and sleep suits etc.

Mine were in these for as long as possible.

With a jacket/cardi this time of year.

SE13Mummy · 26/02/2010 12:12

My 9-month-old spends most of her time in a babygro, if I want to dress her up I sometimes put a pair of cotton dungarees over the top. She has a cardigan/coat over the top if it's cold or we're going out. Once she's crawling I'll probably be more inclined to dress her in soft trousers etc.

porcamiseria · 26/02/2010 13:04

yanbu. much comfier, I did baby gros then moved to soft clothes/trackies

Twilightobsessed · 26/02/2010 13:22

My girls were exclusively in babygros until about 4 months. Vests underneath unless summertime, cardi etc if necessary.

Clothes were just too much of a faff, especially with the constant nappy changing and vomit.

After a while you might want to get adventerous with trying your lo in clothes, but only when you can be bothered / want to. Babygros are absolutely fine for as long as you like x

slightlystressed · 26/02/2010 13:31

I wish I could wear a babygro all day!

I did dress DS1 alot, but with DS2 its all babygros, got him dressed for the first time on Monday...he's 8 months!

wonderingwondering · 26/02/2010 13:35

At that age mine were still in white vests and babygros so they could all go in a hot wash together! Easy, and babies do look cute in white.

Trikken · 26/02/2010 13:42

Pacificdogwood, saw Onsies when shopping last week, the idea of them seems cute but I was weirdly freaked out by them.

Trikken · 26/02/2010 13:42

sorry meant Onsies for adults, dont get freaked out by the normal ones.

StrictlyKatty · 26/02/2010 13:46

I did it for 3 months at least. Practical and comfortable. No need for fussy outfits at all.

Sunshinemummy · 26/02/2010 13:48

YADNBU my two were in babygros exclusively for the first few months. There's nothing cuter than seeing them kick their little legs all ensconced in a footed babygro

Lizzylou · 26/02/2010 13:52

YANBU, oh how sad it is when they outgrow them, I loved munching my DS's when they were in babygros.
Enjoy

GoldenSnitch · 26/02/2010 13:56

YANBU

The only reason DD (10 weeks) wears anything other than babygrows is because other people bought her outfits when she was born and I feel like I have to put her in them!

But I only do for special occasions and visits. At home she's mostly in her brothers hand-me-down white babygrows and vests with a cardi if it's cold.

babiesbabies · 26/02/2010 13:59

YANBU. You can dress your baby in whatever you like.

I have to say however that I was given lots of little outfits for ds which he wore as it would have been ungrateful not to and I felt judged by other mothers. He was always comfortable so I couldn't see the problem.

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 13:59

definitely not bu, I did this wil DS until he was about 6 months. They're so comfy and warm and there's no twisted waistbands, hiked up tops etc.
Have started dressing 5mo DD in the last couple of weeks, she's my last, and with DS if he didn't wear an outfit I'd say "well the next baby will get some use out of it" - no such excuse this time. If she's not going anywhere though (or if I just don;t have time to dress her) she stays in her sleepsuit and I'm secretly thrilled
Hate denim on babies, jumpers/cardigans...

sweetkitty · 26/02/2010 14:05

I do like little soft dungarees on babies though, those little velour ones are so cute.

That's an outfit for me though and only if we are going out the rest of the time it is babygros.

I hate dresses and tights on baby girls that cannot walk too.

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 14:08

As outfits go, I like little dungarees and romper suits
DD has many dresses, I did try her with socks but her little legs looked so sold. Still getting to grips with tights though. I have to admit although she looks cute they aren't really practical, she spends all her time flashing her nappy so she can chew on the bottom seam

wastingaway · 26/02/2010 14:14

SPB, you don't like them in cardigans?

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 14:19

no - i know i'm odd
Part of it is the finger-breaking awfulness of getting their tiny hands and arms in
Part of it is the way they hike up at the back
And I'm just not that keen on the look of them
Now a nice fleecy sleepsuit that makes them look like a teddy bear...ahhh
DD used to have a bright yellow one, she also had a tuft of hair on the crown of her head that stood straight up - we called her La La

jelliebelly · 26/02/2010 14:20

we dressed ds in outfits almost from the beginning but with hindsight I have no idea why - prob because people bought them and I knew no different. When dd came along she lived in sleepsuits - she was a winter baby and they are easy to get things like snowsuits etc on and look gorgeous too. She is 13 mths old now and sleeps in a sleepsuit and i have been known to simply put fleece coat/trousers on top to go on freezing cold school run.

wastingaway · 26/02/2010 14:29

DS looked so pretty in his little cardies and matinee jackets. DH was not impressed.

illgetyoubutler · 26/02/2010 14:39

i use only babygro's and romper suits here, for all reasons given above.
YANBU

Ineedsomesleep · 26/02/2010 14:44

DS is 5 and would wear his pyjamas to school if we let him. Tomorrow he will have to be forcibly stuffed into his clothes when we go out.

Stick with the sleepsuits, you sound like you are putting LO first and that makes you a good mum.

duchesse · 26/02/2010 14:56

YAmostdefinitelyNBU. Easy, comfy and warm, what's not to like about them? Plus babies look ever so cute in babygros. I don't think my latest one was in clothes until she was about three months, and even now she sometimes spends most of the day in one. I often only put her in clothes because she has them and it seems a shame to waste them.

duchesse · 26/02/2010 14:59

Oh and was given large bag of clothing by a friend when she was 3 months old. All the denim went straight to a charity shop. Uncomfortable, unyielding and fiddly and definitely not worth it. She also has a few little outfits that people gave her that are too uncomfortable to put her in (Tu cough cough). I have put them on her just before the people in question were going to see her but otherwise she's never worn them.

groundhogs · 26/02/2010 14:59

LOL, don't think my DS wore clothes much at all before he was 10m old.... babygros and then tshirt and nappy, we were in hellishly hot country
