To only want to dress my 7 week old baby in

Babygro's???
Tis my first child and I'm not surrounded by other mothers it just seems so uncomfortable to put a tiny baby in pinafores etc when she could be all snuggly in a babygro. I change her inthe morning and after her bath etc so she's not in the same one she sleeps in. However following the story of Cardiff mums shopping in fresh pyjamas I wondered if this was the baby equivalent, come and let me know.
I do take her out in them too under warm jackets and sleep suits etc.

Last question- does anyone else find that their kicks their way out of the legs of their babygrow? Mine can work out feet out through the poppers on the legs now, and sometimes ends up with both her feet stuck in the crotch of them. Is she just exceptionally wriggly?

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 15:03

Tu - do you mean sainsbury's? I like their clothes!
No, does that not mean the babygro is too big? Or as you say, she's just very wriggly!

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:06

Yes, stealth, sainsbury's. Had two outfits given by lovely friends- a lovely looking little pinafore dress, cardie and tights- but the waist on the dress is too tight to get it on easily. And a lovely little corduroy dress in a 1970s pattern (0-3 month size) that was also very difficult to put on her and virtually involved bending her arms back the wrong way.

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:08

and regarding size- maybe it is that, but 0-3 month size is too tight on the toes, but wriggles out of 3-6 mth as I described. I think that maybe she's on the slender side as well.

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 15:12

oh yes, they are all odd sizes, and it depends on the baby's shape too - DD is 5 months and is in 6-9 sleepsuits, but there is a lovely lilac one from boots, when she wears it she looks as though she's been dipped in lilac paint! She has her mother's figure .
OTOH my favourite dress for her ever is from sainsbury's - I found it as a one off in 3-6 and bought it (dresses still fit her in that size). Looked like it was old stock that had been missed, so can't get it in a bigger size

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:16

Have you tried ebay? Always good for favourite things in bigger sizes.

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 15:18

just had a quick look for Tu navy dress and Tu blue dress but couldn't see it

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:18

What, you mean they meant to be snug? That would explain it! They flap about the person of my midget.

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:18

Save your search and keep going back is my advice.

Morloth · 26/02/2010 15:19

Babygros here, I use a hugabub and found if there was a top and bottom DS's back always ended up uncovered.

YanknCock · 26/02/2010 15:20

duchesse! hi! long time no see!

DS still wears babygros a lot of the time at 6 months old, and he does have that problem of kicking so much he gets his legs caught up in the centre, or kicking his feet outside the poppers. My mom sent me some zippered babygros from the U.S. and they are great for the latter problem. The getting caught up in the centre seems to happen when he's moved to a new size, and gets better as he gets longer!

StealthPolarBear · 26/02/2010 15:21

no, probably not - I decided as I made the "dipped in lilac paint" comment to DH that she maybe wouldn't wear it again

MummyTumble · 26/02/2010 15:25

Babygros here to for months! More fancy patterned ones if we were out, white for bed......then romper suits in the summer. Another one that hates denim on babies. We had some nice soft dungarees & vest sets...but even these were 3months plus. And dresses are just a right pain...they ride up etc...

Any 'proper' outfits i got went back to the shop and exchanged for an older size (some 1yr plus) - just thanked people and said i had lots of clothes for 0-6months but nothing for when they were older...and no-one seemed to mind.

toddlerama · 26/02/2010 15:25

Glad someone elses children do that too! We called it 'mermaiding' (both feet wedged in one leg) and it was a specialty of our girls.

I did dress them (because I thought it was fun ) but there is certainly nothing wrong with letting them be all wriggly and comfy. Now mine are a bit older they often run around in vest and tights (the toddler equivalent). I also think that nappies didn't seem to have 'spurting' incidents in babygrows as they didn't press them against baby's bottom.

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:26

Hi Yank!

duchesse · 26/02/2010 15:27

toddler, we call her mermaid as well!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/02/2010 15:42

DD is 9 weeks old, during the day she wears long sleeved vest, pinafore dresses (not denim though, bit rough) and tights. Either that or soft trouser and top sets or romper suits. I find them just as easy to take on and off as a babygro. She looks cute, I wouldnt say she was uncomfortable. She can go back to living in babygros once she starts crawling!

I saw something today in H&M and was going to start a thread about it but I'll put it here instead, a tiny little thick denim waistcoat for a newborn. £7.99 and it was about the size of my hand plus it was sooo rigid and stiff, no way would that have been comfortable for a baby!

BertieBotts · 26/02/2010 22:23

I used to like dressing DS up too - I still like choosing his outfits and he is 16 months now. I especially like Boots clothes. I quite like the challenge of finding clothes which are nice, comfortable (especially trousers, it's hard to find comfy trousers for boys) and not endless shades of baby blue or mud. But I also liked sleepsuits when he was tiny - I don't think it has to be an either/or thing though. You can do outfits sometimes and sleepsuits at other times.

Elsewhere · 26/02/2010 22:39

My little one is usually in babygros. I put a vest & tights underneath with a cardi over the top & socks. Sometimes knitted trousers as well.

EcoMouse · 27/02/2010 02:57

All of mine lived in babygro's (+ a range of cardigans) day and night until walking and beyond. They just seem so comfy and cozy!

(Why have baby clothes got pockets anyway?! )

mathanxiety · 27/02/2010 06:03

The only ones mine couldn't kick their way out of were from Dunnes in Ireland. They had a shape that was a great fit. I had about 20 of them and they lasted through 5 babies. I don't remember what colours they might have been to start with; they all ended up pretty much white.

mumblecrumble · 27/02/2010 06:35

My mum thought I wa bonkes as dd used to wear babygrows all the time and we'd put a comfy dress over if we were going out.

fidelma · 27/02/2010 06:38

lovely, my 5 month old is mainly in babygrows and a cardi

mummygirl · 27/02/2010 07:59

my first was an august baby and it was a horribly hot year in london. she was always in vests and in the sling. And sometimes it was the one she had slept in. It's not like she was running a marathon and sweat a lot.

ThePFJ · 27/02/2010 08:04

My 20 month old still loves the comfort of his baby-gros around the house. I have lovely clothes for him, but he seems sooooo much more comfy in a gro/sleepsuit. I don't care what my relatives say. My LO is happy and carefree. Plus I bought some really cute ones recently from the verberdau catalogue recently.
