Every 2-3 weeks I end up buying ds1 new socks, now i am not sure if he is eating them or what but they keep going missing. so i have bought him some new ones and am making him get a pair from me everyday and at the end of the day put them in the washing basket in front of me.

I know i am probably BU but i am fed up buying socks lol

They're probably with all my teaspoons

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 13:13

Might try your method.
Same here. I did find some stuffed behind his bed and on top of his bookshelf recently.

stealthsquiggle · 22/02/2010 13:14

Are they going missing in pairs, or singly?

(I have the same problem BTW - I bought DS 5 pairs - 2 weeks later we can only find 1.5 pairs of them )

bumpybecky · 22/02/2010 13:14

I can't remember how old your ds is, but have a feeling he's about 11-12 (same as my dd1). I think I'd be tempted to get him to buy his own socks. Perhaps he'll take more care of them if he's got to pay to replace them?

and YANBU rationing them like this!

chipmonkey · 22/02/2010 13:14

Here's your sister! Ds1 and ds2 randomly take their socks off in the living room/study and I find them down the back of the couch or down the sides of beds. It makes no difference what I say, it still happens. And they don't mind going to school in odd socks so even that threat doesn't work!

OrmRenewed · 22/02/2010 13:15

Gloves!

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 13:16

See now if they were going missing singly i could blame it on the sock monster who lives in the washing machine. But they go in pairs!!

He is 11.

Chip...i harldy ever wear pairs of socks lol in fact i always joke about having another pair the same i.e another odd pair

What is it with teaspoons?

My sister bought me a pack of 6 teaspoons last year because I was always moaning about them going missing. We are now down to our last 2.

Ds now eats his yoghurts with the calpol spoons as I'm convinced he must be chucking them in the bin with his yoghurt pot.

twotimes · 22/02/2010 13:29

omg the frigging teaspoons thought that mine was only in my house

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 13:31

Teaspoons, Gloves and socks always go missing here as well.

these are the things that need to be locked up lol

We bought 21 pairs of plain black socks, 3 packs of 7 for the DSes for this very reason. It hasn't worked though

its forks and single socks in our house! YANBU there is a black hole that things seem to disappear into in our house
i noticed my DD putting a pair of socks in the bin once so i think that may be where things end up but il be fucked if im rifling through the bin to fish out socks/spoons/forks etc

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 13:50

ohh i think i may have to get an odd sock box!!! reckon i would drive DP and DS1 mad with it haha.....hmmm food for thought there!

What do they do with them??

And spoons where do they go!

OP posts:
welshandproud · 22/02/2010 13:51

We have 89 odd socks and counting! But they all belong to one of my 4 DC and not to me or DP. I guess i must be an optimist to keep them and even hope that each new load of clean washing might produce at least one pair!
You are most definately NBU!
Duvet covers sometimes shed a surprise after tumble drying...
There must also be a land of lost hair ties and scrunchies somewhere

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 13:53

Oohh I read a book about this a while back...the place where all things that go missing go, somehow a girl ended up there too!

Ok sorry went totally off there! We have the same problem with socks and sissors!

TLE - be warned about odd sock baskets. Ours is one of those pop-up laundry bins - and it is full . However, when we reach collective sock crisis we have a giant family game of pairs by tipping the odd sock basket out onto the sitting room floor - and pairs mean prizes (small prizes - last time we found nearly 100 pairs in there!!) If I am particularly organised I trawl laundry baskets and wash every available sock just before this game to increase the odds.

Can't help with teaspoons though. Or scissors. Or hairbrushes.

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 14:14

I currently have 2 old pillow cases full of odd socks so i may make it a game...prizes will be the blue smarties!!(only as i don't like them)

OP posts:
LittleMrsHappy · 22/02/2010 14:18

I never have this problem as I get the boys, when they have taken their socks off to fold them and all dirty clothes go straight into a basket.

Might be idea for you? x
