Every 2-3 weeks I end up buying ds1 new socks, now i am not sure if he is eating them or what but they keep going missing. so i have bought him some new ones and am making him get a pair from me everyday and at the end of the day put them in the washing basket in front of me.

I know i am probably BU but i am fed up buying socks lol

DS hates socks. They come off the minute he gets in so don't get lost.

Don't start me on pens though. Or Blu Tac.

chipmonkey · 22/02/2010 15:07

We have a sock basket but every month, I put a little sticker on each sock in it. If it's still there after a month, it goes in the bin!

JoTheUnsure · 22/02/2010 15:09

About the tea spoons... have you heard the story abut the cat...

A family had a similar problem with teaspoons disappearing from the kitchen work top, so they installed a web cam to keep an eye on the situation. It caught Tiddles walking along the counter with the magnet on his collar picking up the tea spoons, and taking them out the cat flap into the garden... Might want to look outside...

MrsTicklemouse · 22/02/2010 15:18

could be worse i found 17 socks under DH's side of the bed the other day!!! not sure whats worse the fact he's a grown man or the fact that at least one sock has been put in the washing bin!!

MrsTicklemouse · 22/02/2010 15:19

ps no not BU i think its a good idea!!!

elmofan · 22/02/2010 15:35

I wondered what had happened to all my DS's school socks, until I found the cat running round with one in her mouth one day. I am convinced there is a stash somewhere that only the cat can find!

TheLadyEvenstar · 22/02/2010 15:40

Not got a cat lol

am sure there is a ghost nicking them all or ds1 is either eating them or binning them!

How about putting them on elastic through his trouser legs like I do with my son's gloves?

Or perhaps just threatening it? It's worked when I threatened to do it to my husband's wallet and keys that kept getting lost...

Mibby · 22/02/2010 16:04

I buy expensive socks (only way to insulate my perma-cold feet) so I have to be careful and keep track of them, but DH has a drawer full of odd socks.

And teaspoons....we had 10 a year ago, now I can only find 5. Where can they have gone?

The cat likes stealing hair bands and hiding them under the rug but I'm sure we'd notice 5 spoons under there

TubbyDuffs · 22/02/2010 16:05

Hmmm my teaspoons have disappeared too....

I do believe they get thrown out with yoghurt pots, so now get the boys to throw the yoghurt pots in the sink with the spoon, so as to avoid the bin!

starzzz · 22/02/2010 16:22

Yes Elmofan....thats the one! Wasnt very good really was it lol random ending if I can remember correctly.

elmofan · 22/02/2010 17:02

lol - took me ages to get into it , in fact i read the first two chapters , got board & bought a different book then after finishing that one went back to the Cecilia ahern book but at least i read it all in the end . a very strange book

starzzz · 23/02/2010 23:20

indeed...and they are normally so good!

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 24/02/2010 05:47

With odd socks, why don't you just buy identical pairs? I mean, they still go missing, but the odd sock problem is eliminated.

IvaNighSpare · 24/02/2010 06:42

Invites all mumsnetters to join her on a quest to find the legendary sock / glove / teaspoon graveyard

[sigh]

MoChan · 24/02/2010 06:50

Whenever I change my dss's bed, I find at least four pairs of socks stuffed down the sides (he's in one of those high sleepers).

I think the washing machine eats socks.

ProfYaffle · 24/02/2010 07:03

Check behind the radiators, there are always dozens of socks behind our radiators. Missing pens always make me think of Peter Kay "The pens I've had in this house!"

kreecherlivesupstairs · 24/02/2010 09:33

My dd has, according to her, sensitive feet. She's really fussy with regard to socks. Not that fussy that she doesn't throw them under the bed or down the side of the bed or in the wardrobe. I get so cross with her, my life is too short to spend hours minutes on a Friday rounding up socks.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 24/02/2010 09:49

I have trained dh and the dses to want odd socks - I buy the ones with patterns/bright colours on the heel and toe, then mismatch them from the word 'Go'. Not only does this mean that one lost or eaten sock doesn't mean a useless pair, it also makes it far easier to pair them up when sorting the washing.

Dh, ds1 and ds2 all wear the same size socks now, so I buy huge numbers of the same ones, and share them out between the three of them.
