To think the dads in One Born Every Minute were spectacularly unsupportive?

Did you see it last night? One was just sitting there looking totally bored and uninvolved while his poor partner got her head round having a c section. The other was goofing around trying to lock his wife into the bathroom when she staggered in for a pee mid-labour, blowing up the blue gloves and poking her with them as she had a contraction, cracking pathetic jokes and generally displaying a mental age of around 13.
Both the mums were just crying out for a bit of "You're doing really well, it will all be fine" and a cuddle. The blokes were rubbish, really rubbish - weren't they?

The older Dad did really annoy me at first, DH saw a bit of it and said he was biting his lip sometimes trying not too laugh with some of the things I said and the noises I made when our two were born. He said it was nervous funny-ness. He made me laugh out loud at DS2's birth as he did a Norman Wisdom style trip over a chair leg and clung to the privacy curtain to stop himself crashing into the monitoring machine. I actually peed myself with laughter.

He said when I was in labour with DS2 and I was saying I felt like I'd eaten a curry and was about to be sick he did laugh to himself, but then half a second later I was on the floor having collapsed and passed out he said it was the worse moment of his entire life watching an small Army of people trying to sort me out and ensure the baby was OK.

Great programme, good to see what we all get up too when having a baby.

It was good viewing wasn't it?

Agree with all the comments about the young dad, he was clearly very worried and overwhelmed and just internalising it all, whereas Lisa was just nervously gabbling about whatever popped into her head... exactly like me and my husband!

Older dad did make me smile, they were such a close couple, and very comfortable with each other, reminded me of my parents!

I have had two births, and my DH could only be there for the first, so after delivering alone with just me and the midwife second time around, I totally agree with JeremyVile's comment about how in the end it is the woman who has to get the job done, who cares about the dads!!

Heavens. Why do so many women on here have no sense of humour at all? My husband was jokey in the way Steve was, when I was in labour, all the way up to and including the Caesarean, and that was exactly what I needed. I think if he had rubbed my back with scented oils in a 'supportive' fashion, I'd have slapped him.

Different couples have different ways of communicating, some banter a lot. You could see that she was at ease with him, so he can't have been that wrong. Just because your relationship is not like that, it doesn't mean that couples who have a relationship like that are in the wrong. I didn't see any disrespectfulness or twattishness. Just trying to lighten up a stressful situation.

And in the other couple - they were both terrified. Can't blame them at all for being like they were.

trying to lock her in the bog while she was contracting and in agony ??

hmm, I'll pass on that side-splitting little gem thanks...

and funnily enough, I kinda lost my SOH when I was in labour for 36 hours

I really enjoyed this programme and bawled my eyes out when the young couple's baby was born

I think the younger guy was just overwhelmed, having had an unplanned section myself it is a shock, he also seemed quite shy?

Fivegomad - Please send them my best wishes, they look like they had a tough time ahead of them and I'm so pleased its all OK with their little boy!

Hmm, as for the older guy, he was just showing off for the cameras and made himself look a complete twunt! His wife was lovely and very patient I would have punched him. Notice how his face changed when he realised his baby was in trouble Glad it all worked out alright in the end for them though
