to wonder why a midwife would offer a woman, labouring beautifully in a pool, an epidural?

I have namechanged as I'm not sure if this is a bit obvious and I need to ensure confidentiality.

But...

I am utterly fuming.

Scenario.

Woman. Baby no 1. Labouring spontaneously in hospital, in a birth pool.

Long and painful but baby fine. Mum tired but coping, using entonox.

Midwife 1 goes off for lunch. Midwife 2 takes over.

By the time midwife 1 comes back from lunch midwife 2 has suggested an epidural to knackered, labouring woman who accepts.

within haf an hour epidural is sited and hormone drip going.

Woman is now being monitored continuously in bed.

Please comment.

JustMoon, THANKS!!!!

i must say I read Violet post and just bloody gave up, I dont think it was malicious in anyway but you hit the nail on the head when you said:As much as you are trying to say it's OK to have an epidural, you are still suggesting that if she does then she sees child birth as a medical procedure rather than something natural.

Violet I am not having a go, but I feel frustrated, scared and upset as I am shit scared of going through it again, and I just want to hear some positive epi experiences, thats all.

if I hear another euphoric natural birth story I will fucking scream!!!!!

Lulumama · 16/02/2010 17:29

porcamiseria, why not start a thread asking for postive epidural birth stories? i think this thread is probably not the best place

violethill · 16/02/2010 17:58

BTW porcamiseria - I'm not trying to say 'its OK to have an epidural' - it wouldn't be my place to tell anyone else how to have their baby! Make your own informed choices.

And I agree Lulu - no one is stopping anyone starting a thread where people can share their positive epidural stories. It seems daft to come on a thread which started about the downsides of epidurals and expect it!

Just don't scream at those of us who had euphoric natural births - we are just as entitled to our feelings as anyone else.

JustMoon · 16/02/2010 18:33

Pardon violet?? How did this start as an anti epidural thread? It started as a requst for comment about a series of events not as an anti epidural thread. If Porca wants to make a comment she bloody well can! And if she wants to scream she bloody well can how dare you tell her she's daft to comment here, I certainly don't think Lulumama meant it quite like that.

JustMoon · 16/02/2010 18:36

Porca I am going to step away from this thread now as it has made me cross and that was never my intention. Good luck with future births hope you feel more positive next time

FanjolinaJolie · 16/02/2010 18:37

"Please comment."

Is you a midwife or a journo?

JustMoon · 16/02/2010 18:38

Porca I am going to step away from this thread now as it has made me cross and that was never my intention. Good luck with future births hope you feel more positive next time.

violethill · 16/02/2010 18:46

'Pardon violet?? How did this start as an anti epidural thread? '

I didn't say 'anti epidural'.

I said it started in connection with the downsides of epidurals. The OP ('feckinfurious') described herself as 'utterly fuming' about the epidural intervention on the (unknown!) woman. I think to most people that would indicate that the OP is writing about epidurals from a negative viewpoint.

But maybe you disagree. After all, I'm addressing the person who doesn't believe that epidurals are a medical procedure!!!

Ah, I see you've stepped away!

violethill · 16/02/2010 18:50

Fanjolina - I think the other question is

'Is you a troll?'

JustMoon · 16/02/2010 18:55

Not quite yet. You do not speak for most people you speak for yourself. You have your interpretation and others have theirs but you seem unable to see that or respond in a reasonable way to those who may disagree with you. I will leave you to your childish unsupportive posting now.

violethill · 16/02/2010 18:59

There is nothing I have said to disagree with.

I have said repeatedly that it is up to each woman to weigh up the pros and cons and risk factors and make her own decisions.

What do you find to disagree with in that?

You just don't seem to like what I said about epidurals being a medical procedure. That's not a point of view, it's a fact. Everything else you've said is just a distortion of my posts because you seem determined to take issue with me.

For the final time, I think every woman should weigh up the pros and cons and risk factors and make her own decisions for each of her labours. Amen!
