To be fuming at the school for sending ds's shoes, with someone's human shit on them, home in a bag?

Someone shat on the toilet floor. It's the second time in a week this has happened. Anyway, today ds stood in the poo and they told him to put on his gym shoes, put his shitty shoe in a bag, and sent it home to me.

What TF would you do? It was diahorrea apparently. Now I have a grim bin liner in my home with a turdy shoe in it.

Cant see how its the teachers job to clean it or any of the TAs either. Am presuming the cleaner/caretaker was busy cleaning the toilets and the staff were busy looking into and sorting out the child who had the problem.

Put some gloves on and wash with disinfectant. Its no biggie really. These things happen.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 08/02/2010 16:37

Why is it worse to clean off human poo than to clean off dog poo?

I am utterly aghast that some people would just throw the shoes away - what a waste of money and resources!

Use a pair of rubber gloves, hose them down under the outside tap, then give them a good clean with antibacterial spray. It is honestly not the end of the world.

I used to be a nurse, and we had to clean human poo off humans, beds, bedpans, even walls on occasion.

Cleaning poo off your child's shoe isn't going to be the most pleasant thing you do today, but is it really worth making a fuss about?

However, I do think it would be reasonable of you to contact the school and ask them to deal with the problem of poo on the loo floors.

TheProvincialLady · 08/02/2010 16:38

"If it was dog poo I would take it on the chin"

Hohohoho

LynetteScavo · 08/02/2010 16:44

If I were the the teacher or TA, I would have done the same thing.

But there's no way you can excpect a 10 year old to clean it.

I would either do it myself, or buy new shoes. (I once had to buy DS1 new shoes, as I physically couldn't clean dog poo off becuase of morning sickness)

YoMoJo · 08/02/2010 16:46

SDTG - i cant believe people would throw away the shoes either! I just changed DS nappy & got poo on my trousers - I should get out my marigolds, take them off & burn them & then give myself a dettol bath! Nah quick wipeover with a wet-wipe should do it

And a 10 yr old must be able to look where he is walking surely?

Blu · 08/02/2010 16:48

Spidermama, no view, no advice, just sympathy.

Marne · 08/02/2010 16:53

Yuk, i would chuck the shoes away (mainly because i am slightly OCD about germs and i wouldn't want to touch another childs shit).

hocuspontas · 08/02/2010 16:56

Spare a thought for the person who had to clean the toilet floor and everywhere else where it was tracked before being noticed. They also had to clean up the culprit I expect. No caretakers at our school in the middle of the day it's down to the TAs. I would probably have run the shoe under the tap but wouldn't have time to clean it properly. If the teacher was on her own you are lucky to have it in a bag!

ChasingSquirrels · 08/02/2010 17:02

My son had dreadful diahorrea at school the other week - it just came on, he was compeletly fine before and after but in his words "it was like my bottom being sick a river of poo".

This happened outside, and just went straight down his trousers as he was wearing boxer shorts.

I dread to think what the surrounding area was like, given the state of ds and his clothing.

So if it had just happened I don't think the school can be blamed for not getting it cleared up immediately.
But it definately isn't the sort of thing which should be left lying around until the end of the day when the caretaker/cleaner is available.

cornsilk · 08/02/2010 17:07

I wouldn't have cleaned it if I'd been the teacher. I think the Head should've sorted it out.

I didn't think loco parentis applied when kids are just at school. Teachers are in loco parentis when there is a trip abroad etc and they may need to do things which are impossible for parents to do. (?) My kids are not old enough for this sort of thing anyway, I just remember from when I was at school

TheBossofMe · 08/02/2010 17:14

Actually, I would expect a 10yo to look where they are going and not step in the poo in the first place. If he can't do that, then I would expect the parent to clean the shoes. Definitely not a teacher's job.

JeremyVile · 08/02/2010 17:16

Eek! I feel for you but yeah, I'd say its for you to clean the shoe rather than the teacher.

Roll yer sleeves up and get stuck in. Bleurgh.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/02/2010 17:18

I would be extremely pissed off but would probably just get on and clean the shoe (seeing as I just forked out 35 notes for DS' school shoes - damn narrow feet) and definately make a complaint with it being the second time. That is pretty wrong!

He should be able to use the toilets without steeping in a turd.

hocuspontas · 08/02/2010 17:21

I've had parents turn up at school in the morning and casually mention their child has trodden in dog shit and would I mind cleaning their shoes. Yes I would actually. I told them they were welcome to come in and do it themselves. I'm sure they wouldn't turn up at a restaurant and expect a waitress to do it.

EleanorBuntingCupcake · 08/02/2010 17:24

thank god no one has told you to 'suck it up' [boak].

I feel sorry for the kid who didn´t make it to the toilet on time.

I remember feeling ill once but not wanting to tell the teacher & hoping I could hold on until the break.

Sassybeast · 08/02/2010 17:28

Madamedeathstare - there was quite a disturbing thread a whils back about the frequency of poo incidents in school loos - the concensus was that it was fairly normal

Chillohippi · 08/02/2010 17:31

It's not the teacher's job to clean it up. YABU.

cornsilk · 08/02/2010 17:31

each school should have a poo co-ordinator for situations such as this.

Bonsoir · 08/02/2010 17:33

I think a 10 year old ought to be a bit more careful and be able not to walk in shit...

Chillohippi · 08/02/2010 17:34

Poo co-ordinator I think that position would not be as popular as fire-officer.
