With DS my waters went at 35 weeks, no signs of anything happening before hand, they just went, pain started, DS delivered 12 hours later.

This time I am 39 weeks, was told by MW on Friday I am 3-4cm dilated. I have been having sharp, sudden pains all day, the sort that shock you enough to scream! They only last a few seconds. Had a bloody show this morning also. Baby very active!

DH can't believe I don't know whats going on!! AIBU and thick!!???

What do you think??

Good luck! Hope you have that baby

Conundrumish · 07/02/2010 10:18

Any news?

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 07/02/2010 11:19

I'm still here !

Pains every 5 mins at 3am this morning lasting for about 1min then NOTHING! All stopped. I can't believe how different this labour is. What can I do!!! DH has a big project starting tomorrow and childcare gets more complicated next week, would be reallt helpful to have the baby today!

Oh Gosh sorry you're still here I posted on another thread re looking after your DS a few days ago.

The thread title reminded me that with my second, I really did forget what labour was like. I remember waking to a pain at midnight and thinking "was that a contraction?" and then 10 minutes later thinking "yes I think that really hurts, it must be " then wanted to bear down and thinking I wanted a poo ( !! second time round, what a twat! )and then thinking I'd better get DS looked after and get DH to get me down to hospital. Had DD 4 minutes after getting to hospital, just after 1am.

So, in my exp, you forget, yes. Labours can be very different, yes.

Hoping not to hear from you soon, in the nicest possible way.

If it makes you feel at all better I had tht with ds every five minutes then stopped I took that time to do a huge shop and kep myself busy and he was born that day so good luck for delivery today

kinnies · 07/02/2010 11:52

I had the same with DC 1 & 2.

I was always starting and stopping

Am now pg with #3 and am planing to stay at home for as long as I can.
Only thing is that people say that each labour is quicker than the last, am always worried about leaving it too late. Saying that I have never come close to delivering in the car.

Good luck and I hope you and Dh ger some rest before the event!

PrivetDancer · 07/02/2010 14:57

try and go for a walk - that seemed to get things going for me

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 08/02/2010 21:15

I am STILL here! Contractions still every 5 mins but just not lasting. Electric shocks in my cervix too are just LOVELY! NOT!!!

I think this is a sign I won't cope with 2, therefore its not coming out!!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was looking at posts earlier imagining you in recovery, looking blissfully at your new baby.

< sending calm, relaxing thoughts >

pruneplus2 · 08/02/2010 21:41

Awww, all the best, you will be fine.

I didnt know if I was in labour with DC2 as although I was having "tightenings" it never actually hurt. As they became more regular and longer (still no pain) I called delivery suite (was 2 weeks overdue) and they checked my notes, came back to phone and bellowed "COME IN NOW!" (DC1 was very quick labour).

Got to delivery suite and was 6cm dilated, still no pain, gave birth not long after.

Am 18 weeks pregnant now and keep reading and loving "am I in labour" threads - am so excited - roll on July

PrivetDancer · 08/02/2010 22:52

Oh you poor thing, have you managed to get any sleep?
Worst case.. This can only go on for another 2 weeks...

Hope something happens tonight for you!

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 09/02/2010 10:46

OMG how long will they leave me like this! How can I be 4cm and having pains every 5 but nothing else for days.....????? I am finding it really hard now to look after my toddler!

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 09/02/2010 10:58

Oh you poor thing. My friend was like this with no3, went on for about 2 weeks. Always 4cms, contractions every 5 minutes but no progress. In the end, it was very, very quick.

Nothing helped move her on btw- as generally nothing does until labour is established- so try not to do too much marching around and climbing stairs as it'll just tire you out.

Does anything help relieve it? Water? Firm massage?

happymatleave · 09/02/2010 11:10

Yes I bet you'll be really quick, your body is doing a lot of the hard work now. I was like this with dc3, thought it would never happen even though I was 3 cm and having really strong braxton hicks. But then it changed very suddenly and ds was born about 2 hours later.

It probably doesn't help but I'm very , it's such an exciting time (easy for me to say )

Good luck

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 09/02/2010 11:34

Could I beg for an induction???? Really worried as have Step B too?? Its a nightmare with childcare, DH working at a distance??? I know I sound all Portland babies ish....but I am going MAD!!

mylifemykids · 09/02/2010 11:48

Surely you should be in hospital on antibiotics if you have Strep B??

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 09/02/2010 11:49

No, they say to sit tight and I only need 2 hours off antibiotics, but everything I have read says 4 hours??? I can't see me getting 4 hours.....last time I had DS in 3 hours and that was a first labour!

OmicronPersei8 · 09/02/2010 12:00

I'd phone them again saying exactly that.

cece · 09/02/2010 12:03

Oh no you poor thing. This has been oging on for days....

Phone up and make a fuss. I always find crying helps...

happymatleave · 09/02/2010 12:13

Can you ask to go in and have a sweep? If you're already 4 cm it should be quite painless and it might get things moving for you.

tryingtobemarrypoppins2 · 09/02/2010 12:32

My midwife is on hoilday this week......shall I call the hospital?? Don't want to seem a pain but its getting mad now.

happymatleave · 09/02/2010 12:42

Yes call them x

PrivetDancer · 09/02/2010 12:43

Yes I'd call the labour and delivery ward and say you're worried about the strep b / quick labour possibility and can you please come in to be checked.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 09/02/2010 12:50

Hi tryingtobe - have posted on your name thread - sorry it's so long and drawn out, and that I have no advice ....

largeginandtonic · 10/02/2010 09:39

Did you call? You must.

I think you may well go like a rocket at the end. The midwives should see this really. Lots of niggly pains and already sat at 4cm.

Hope they were helpful on the phone.
