...me liking some things in the Boden catalogue?!

I've always avoided Boden for all sorts of reasons (mostly because it seems a bit "middle class mummy" to me). This morning, however, an unsolicited catalogue arrived. I just glanced through it and found myself thinking that I quite liked quite a lot of the clothes.

Is there some sort of subliminal "Boden is good" message in the threads on here?

Have I been swayed by peer culture?

Let's weigh it up - When's the last time you frequented a Greggs? Ate a grape in the supermarket? Gave the MIL the benefit of the doubt?! Lentil wove? It may just be a coincidence...it may not

southeastastra · 04/02/2010 14:48

it's way too loopy for me

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/02/2010 14:52

Floopy21 - that's the second time you've made me laugh today. The first was in the Suffolk/Somerset thread when you wrote what I sort of thought I ought to mention!

southeastastra - hmmm. Maybe I should be worried that it's not too loopy for me? Eeek!

If you sniff, really closely at the fan on your computer, it sends out eau-de-Johnny fragrance in the mornings and eau-de-Captain-vn-Trapp's-curtains in the afternoons. Which explains why half the stuff in the catalogue (mine also arrived this morning) is lush and the other half looks like upholstery remnants from 1972.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/02/2010 15:07

Bucharest Just had to put my phone on mute as I'm on a conference call and laughed!

To my, very aged, filthy mind "eau de Johnny" conjures up something very different indeed!

Shock
Besom · 04/02/2010 15:17

I can look at the thing and have a little fantasy about running along a deserted beach in a tea dress, but the reality would be somewhat different.

Did we all get unsolicited Boden catalogues?

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 04/02/2010 15:17

YANBU. 23 years old and the Boden catalogue is right

vezzie · 04/02/2010 15:21

Came home tired last night, got dd fed and in bed, did a quick tidy round, finished off a few work emails, sat down knackered and pissed off, with... the Boden catalogue: genius. Was falling about laughing within minutes. It's the accumulative effect, like The Innovations Report.
Then when you are bored of laughing at the clothes for their own sake, you can play this game with your DP: "what do you think is happening to make him / her have that expression?"

Besom · 04/02/2010 15:26

They don't have the male models saying those stupid inane quotes do they?

Louise,Companian animal of choice:dog wtf?

diedandgonetodevon · 04/02/2010 15:29

Step away from the catalogue. It appears to be a slippery slope into very mediocre clothing.

It does, however, line the cats litter tray beautifully.

Floopy21 · 04/02/2010 15:43

Belle, Your Boden is certainly worth it if it's made you laugh in a conferenece call. Who cares about the clothes now!

Ooo, are you a looooocal then?!

I hope so Besom , I always used to replace them in my mind with something I thought more apt, like 'Jasmine. Likes: Crack & not eating'

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/02/2010 15:51

Floopy, I used to be local. I'm Suffolk born and bred but now live (gasp) in Yorkshire. Planning to move back and thought had found a house but then didn't get money I was promised and couldn't buy it

My family all still live in Suffolk and I'm a frequent visitor. I just want to move back - sob!

OP posts:
Floopy21 · 04/02/2010 15:54

Ahhh, missing a bit of the inbred racisim non?! Seriously though, good luck with the move, maybe the first house wasn't meant to be?

onlyjoinedforoffers · 04/02/2010 15:56

Maybe there is just a new genearation of Boden buyers. I have loved it for years but have gone off it lately . I dont think it is a patch on what is used to be when i had an X at nearly every page in my fantasy buying dream

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/02/2010 17:32

onlyjoined, I'm 44 so perhaps it's got too middle aged for you?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 04/02/2010 18:55

I quite like it. I ordered several tops for my half-term holiday last night . Do I have to leave now?

Bucharest · 05/02/2010 07:41

I'm 44 too, and like almost all of the non-curtainy stuff.

onlyjoinedforoffers · 05/02/2010 10:26

no im 46 so that can be the reason

onlyjoinedforoffers · 05/02/2010 10:27

i have bought a cardigan form the Spring range(forgot about that) and i do like the satin plimsolls

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2010 10:49

I there is a Boden conspiracy... I'm on a train to London (oh the excitement) and a Boden flyer just fell out of my magazine! I'm starting to feel like The Prisoner with a big Boden balloon after me.

OP posts:
BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2010 10:50

I meant "I think there is a Boden conspiracy..." Got my nails done for the first time in three years yesterday and now can't type on tiny keypad.

OP posts:
havoc · 05/02/2010 11:13

OP - I've never heard of Boden sending unsolicited catalogues. Go on admit it - you ordered it, didn't you?

BelleDameSansMerci · 05/02/2010 11:18

havoc LOL! There was a little note in the front telling me that I'm not the permanent mailing list but I can get myself added if I like. Helpful, I thought
