to think that breastfeeding a 25 year old, even as a one off, is more than a little strange?

Article here about when breastfeeding should stop and the author quoted two examples of 25 year old women bfing as a one off after a bereavement.

'two 25-year-old women who had suffered bereavement and went to their respective mothers for ?one-off comfort?.
"It probably started with a cuddle and led from there," she tells me'

Now I am very pro breastfeeding but I found this very strange/unusual. I just can't imagine a situation where I, as a woman in my 20s, would breastfeed from my mother but then part of me thinks if they've just suffered a big loss, who am I to think this way of coping is wrong?

So, less of an AIBU but more of a what do you all think?

That took a while!

pooexplosions · 03/02/2010 22:01

You're a sensitive wee soul aren't you curryfreak? An infant being fed in the way infants are meant to be. you poor little dear.

curryfreak · 03/02/2010 22:02

Well it took a long time to master the art, secondcoming, but by the time I was 25 i just about got it

thisisyesterday · 03/02/2010 22:02

people like curryfreak tend, IME, to be lacking somewhat in other areas of their life.
thus they feel the need to gain as much attention as possible from random strangers online by attempting to offend/upset people.

sad really.

ewwwww even the 16 year old boy bitty bitty comes to mind here

JaneS · 03/02/2010 22:10

I find it odd, but almost more because it's a one-off after (presumably) a very long gap. I can understand that a child who was weaned a few months previously might, if he or she were ill or very sad, get comfort from being babied a little.

It's like the way that the eight-year-old daughter of my friend today wanted to snuggle up to me while I read to her (she's full of a cold atm, but normally she claims she's too grown-up to listen to stories any more). The comfort comes from going back to a less demanding way of interacting with the world, which I think we can all understand. But, unless this woman has been being breastfed up to a very advanced age, surely it won't be the comfort of a recently abandoned habit she's getting?

It all seems a bit odd and contrived to me.

theladyevenstar · 03/02/2010 22:10

bitty boy

curryfreak · 03/02/2010 22:12

Secondcoming, post was meant for meant for any fucker. She asked me know i managed to breastfeed my self. I was just saying that it took me a while, but by the time i was 25 i got the hang of it

AnyFucker · 03/02/2010 22:13

are you celine dion??? her neck is longgggggggg

BitOfFun · 03/02/2010 22:15

I dread to think what breastfeeding yourself does to your boobs...tell me, do you also drink your own urine?

pooexplosions · 03/02/2010 22:16

don't you get tired of people saying "fuck off curryfreak"? I;ve seen at least 3 of those this week.

And your DH didn't nail it all. Breastfeeding mafia? Did some lactating women leave a horses head in your bed? Did a midwife put a hit out on you or break your kneecaps? Not really an accurate description then is it?

Heathcliffscathy · 03/02/2010 22:18

morning paper agreed, everyone should read fresh milk posthaste it's a great book.

i think it's no stranger than sticking a rolled up wodge of dried leaves in your mouth and inhaling the smoke (another example of oral comforting) and loads of people do that don't they?

thisisyesterday · 03/02/2010 22:19

i can, actually get my nipple in my mouth.
and as i am lactating atm i could probably breastfeed myself.

which is nice.

curryfreak · 03/02/2010 22:21

No pooh, as i said before, they are just usually very dull women !Never get tired of hearing the word fuck!
I've Certainly got big nipples anyfucker, at least that my dh says!(wink)

AnyFucker · 03/02/2010 22:21

my chins tend to get in the way, or I would do it

so portable!

you would never have to buy a latte again !

thisisyesterday · 03/02/2010 22:24

i am going to breastfeed my children forever, to ensure i lactate.
that way if i am in a plane crash i can feed myself.

BitOfFun · 03/02/2010 22:24
