Would you attempt it?

Approx 8 hours to Calais, over with Tunnel or ferry, then 9 hours.

How many overnight stops?

you will be fine

duckyfuzz · 31/01/2010 21:33

lol, I did wonder!

it will be hard, how old are DCs? Which part of scotland? we are in NE England and would have 2 overnights for a similar journey, with 2 of us driving, you might need 3 to give youreslf a break

Ivykaty44 · 31/01/2010 21:35

I drove from just south of Lyon to Warwick with a ferry - started at 9am and got in at 1am - dd1 was not well when we were away and wanted to come home.....

MmeLindt · 31/01/2010 21:35

MmeL, if this is related to another thread for which you might have name changed, I think you should definitely do it! I wouldn't think you were being unreasonable either way, though.

If you don't know what I'm on about please ignore me.

Ivykaty44 · 31/01/2010 21:39

thats Newcastle and Ferry

hatwoman · 31/01/2010 21:40

i thought this might be you Mme Lindt. and was wondering what on earth you were on about! perhpas a quick pootle round the lake or something...

personally i'd only do it if I could do it at leisure. 4-5 hours driving a day combined with somewhere interesting to stop. plus, perhaps dvd players in the car. is it really worth it? could you not do it on the train?

MmeLindt · 31/01/2010 21:41

Ivy
would love to do that but would have to leave the dog in the car on the ferry. Overnight. That is just not on.

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 31/01/2010 21:42

Belle
No idea what you are talking about, not namechanged recently (except when I namechanged on Woofas thread to post as Daphne)

Not looked into the train yet.

No problem. I drove from Vienna to UK (and return) with DS (age 2) plus dog, 2 x overnight trip en-route both ways. Worst bit was trying to exercise dog with DS in tow (a doddle when they are 6/8. Only joking (re dog walking), I assume you have invested in portable DVD player or the like. The next year I discovered there was an overnight motorail as far as Dusseldorf, phew, slightly easier.

Ivykaty44 · 31/01/2010 21:43

it is 3 hours 45 mins from dundee to newcastle and 169 miles

amsterdam to geneva is 988km and 10 hours driving

if that helps

orienteerer · 31/01/2010 21:43

Overnight stop even.....

Ivykaty44 · 31/01/2010 21:44

ohh sorry didn't realise about dog..

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/01/2010 21:45

MmeL - that's a good thing then! I still don't think you're unreasonable. I'd do it but I'm like that.

MmeLindt · 31/01/2010 21:46

Did not think about DVD player. That would help.

DH is not keen, he thinks it is too much. Talking about driving over with us and flying back to CH. To do the same on the way back two weeks later.

orienteerer · 31/01/2010 21:47

Can you use one of http://www.seat61.com/Motorail.htm#Map%20of%20European%20motorail%20routes these motorail routes?

Ivykaty44 · 31/01/2010 21:48

I would drive to folkstone and stopever, get train in morning.

Then that day and stop of at Reims.

Then drive home
