To think there's something a bit emperor's new clothes about Molton Brown?

I love bubble bath so often get given it for christmas etc. And I now have a selection of Molton Brown ones. Which I know are a generous pressie and not cheap etc. so I should be grateful.

But... really, they all smell vaguely the same. And what they smell like is basically a bit like washing up liquid! Or is it just me?

I agree.
Dont get why their handwash is so ££££!

EdgarAllenSnow · 30/01/2010 17:04

this is why i always nose-test bath products before purchase. price isn't much of an indicator of smell - some (e.g ) sanctuary stuff has a really soapy smell i don't like,

SchrodingersSexKitten · 30/01/2010 17:05

yanbu
Ditto Jo Malone, esp the candles

Both a total swizz

Pinner35 · 30/01/2010 17:10

No, I love MB stuff. It lasts for ages.....my fave smell is Amber Cocoon.

Cyb · 30/01/2010 17:13

yes they are poncification personified, especially when you can get that rip off stuff for a couple of quid in Asda, in the same looking bottles

Heathcliffscathy · 30/01/2010 17:18

agreed. absolutely have always thought this.

traceybath · 30/01/2010 17:18

DH has black pepper bodywash and it is lovely.

The website also does lots of freebies so yabu.

You must just have got some duff fragrances.

pingviner · 30/01/2010 17:23

i agree expecially about joe malone
someone gave me some candles
and they smell exactly like toilet cleaner

MarineIguana · 30/01/2010 17:34

But I've noticed this over a couple of years now traceybath so not just this particular set.

They do tend to have names like "heavenly japanese squiblet squoblet flower" that I've never heard of and have no idea what it's supposed to smell like - so maybe it does smell like washing up liquid I guess...

But I could find you 10 cheaper bubble baths in boots that smell loads nicer.

YANBU. The Eucalyptus one is lovely (but not 16 quid a bottle lovely) but the rest all smell insipid and samey. And a bottle only lasts two minutes.

Bobbiewickham · 30/01/2010 17:38

I like it

I love that classic one that's got mandarin oranges in it, can't remember the name...

It reminds me of posh hotels.

kinnies · 30/01/2010 18:03

Shhhhhhhhh
I pinch it from hotels

Casserole · 30/01/2010 18:55

YANBU. And they don't bubble as well as Radox either! (plus with Radox you can whack half a big bottle in cos it's so bloomin cheap. AND it smells nicer.

MamaVoo · 30/01/2010 19:00

Hotels usually fill the bottles with something cheaper. Even the posh ones

AuroraB · 30/01/2010 19:04

i have one called something like ginger lily and i always think it smells slightly like sore throats eeugh

champagnesupernova · 30/01/2010 19:13

I prefer this

MrsJohnDeere · 30/01/2010 19:14

They give me awful eczema.

ruhavingalarf · 30/01/2010 19:25

MB is a bit crap

Not as crap as the Baylis and Harding products which supposedly look excatly the same........... erm, if you can't read

Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin is gorgeous

But then I also like Body Shop Satsuma bubble bath

And go wild for all the almond and vanilla stuff from L'Occitane

ruhavingalarf · 30/01/2010 19:29

oh and the nicest one I ever had was a Bvlgari green tea one I got from the Four Seasons on our wedding night. It was teeny weeny hotel size, I had about 4 things and the last to go was the conditioner which I finished last year ( 6 years on ).

< wistful sigh >

Ilovemybed · 30/01/2010 19:31

LOL @ pingviner - yes JM does smell exactly like cheapo loo cleaner. I thought I was the only one.....

SmallShips · 30/01/2010 19:33

I got some MB stuff for Christmas,it really dries my skin out, smells nice enough though.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 30/01/2010 19:37

"heavenly japanese squiblet squoblet flower"

lol

I agree they are massively overrated and not worth the cash. Jo Malone too.

If I want posh I get Dr Hauschka bath stuff. Not bubbly though. For bubbles I agree moderately cheap stuff like Radox is the biz.

bebesequin · 30/01/2010 19:52

Local TK maxx selling MB now- Maybe products have changed used to use it years ago-pre DCs- but got loads last Christmas and most of the hatbox is sitting unused in bathroom- prefer Boots botanics bubble bath and Sanctuary ginger body lotion

MarineIguana · 30/01/2010 22:39

Ooh yes Dr Hauschka is the dog's bollocks if you do want to spend money - also Clarins Bain aux plantes "Relax", mmmm.

EdgarAllenSnow · 31/01/2010 17:20

ooh ones that really do smell nice -

Sanctuary 'Kyphi' bath creme - yummy

Waitrose Umi 'palm silk & acacia honey' - really delicious on the nose

Tescos 'nourishing bath' vanilla & honey...
