to induce labour......I really can't face it.....but needs must and if you think it works I may have to give it a try

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/01/2010 21:46

It might. It didn't for me.

TheFirstLady · 27/01/2010 21:47

Nothing works. I ate a whole pineapple to kickstart DD2. That didn't work either but it was better than sex.

lostinwales · 27/01/2010 21:48

Depends how much of a giggle you need really, working out HOW is defo a bonding experience, but I'm not sure it ever helped me (only syntocin has ever helped me!). Just make sure you are not having a sweep tommorow
I know the science backs up the whole same chemical thing but in what quantities I'm not sure.

coldtits · 27/01/2010 21:48

I ate a pound of grapes to get ds 2 out

Cosette · 27/01/2010 21:48

I tried it, and it didn't work for me. 2 of my 3 DC have been 2 weeks late, and nothing worked. With DC3 they tried to induce me twice, nothing happened, and I went home for a week until he was ready to come.

My view is that they'll come when they're ready and the best thing to do is to relax..

DilysPrice · 27/01/2010 21:49

Ermmmm, if you can't face the deed with your dp then DIY is also worth a try.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/01/2010 21:49

It most defo worked for me. My waters broke during sex

Go on, do it. It won't cause any harm and it might just get that baby on its way out!

Make sure it's a good pokey-cervix-bashing one

ImSoNotTelling · 27/01/2010 21:51

Didn't work for me.

Nor raspberry leaf tea, curry, whole pineapple, brisk walks. I drew the line at scrubbing the kitchen floor though.

I still reckon give it a go, give everything a go, it helps to pass the time

When are/were you due?

thisisyesterday · 27/01/2010 21:52

didn't work for me

dooit · 27/01/2010 21:53

Do it! I loved pregnant sex but then I've always been odd.

It's the prostaglandins in the sperm that will help soften your cervix if you're anyway near ready to pop so it's important that your other half leaves a deposit rather than just has a half hearted poke about.

That sounds awful but the penetration alone won't help.

Mumcentreplus · 27/01/2010 21:54

Worked for me ...good bit of nookie and a nap ...few hours later woke up in labour..

kitsmummy · 27/01/2010 21:55

Worked for me, labour twinges started within 2 hours

Mumcentreplus · 27/01/2010 21:56

well that makes 2 of us dooit knew I was odd

icarriedawatermelon2 · 27/01/2010 22:10

oh noooooooooooooooooooo, looks like I had better forget an early night with my big pants and pJ's

I'm 37 weeks but had my last baby early so feel well and truly over cooked now.

LOL ILikeToMoveItMoveIt .....you certainly live up to your chat name!!!!

BitOfFun · 28/01/2010 00:50

I had my first baby at 37+5, but my second at 41. Sorry. But on the plus side, a shag did get it going.

Bottom line is it won't happen until it's ready. There is some research to suggest that it is hormones from the baby that trigger labour, so all in their own sweet time...

ChippingIn · 28/01/2010 08:33

Book an expensive, non refundable, night out - always does the job!

fernie3 · 28/01/2010 08:38

didnt work for me, I tried everything and my first was still 6 days overdue(others induced). No harm in it though, passes the time!

ShauntheSheep · 28/01/2010 08:48

Apparently scrubbing the floor is supposed to work

Scrubbing or sex well now there is a diffisult choice

GibbonInARibbon · 28/01/2010 08:49

I had the urge to scrub my floors and did go into labour. I had an old toothbrush out cleaning every crevice

theladyevenstar · 28/01/2010 08:58

mumcentreplus that makes 3 of us then lol

DS1 i went into labour after having had a mahoosive craving for a curry and having it.
DS2 i went into labour the day i moved totally unexpectedly, had had a small glass of wine.

BalloonSlayer · 28/01/2010 11:34

I thought the prostaglandins in semen were meant to be ten times as effective at getting labour started if taken orally, or is that an urban myth?

Sassybeast · 28/01/2010 11:36

Ballonslayer - an urban myth started by men

mazzystartled · 28/01/2010 11:37

I recommend deciding to undertake a major house renovation project. Stripping floorboards. Worked for me.

Reflexology v good for this apparently - and even if it doesn't work it is divine

potplant · 28/01/2010 11:39

BalloonSlayer - Did your DH tell you that

What worked for me: Have £250 worth of shopping delivered (Got back from hospital 2 weeks later and had to bin the lot cos DH had been living on takeaways.)

skidoodle · 28/01/2010 11:42

LOL @ Sassybeast

I've been wondering this too, and am prepared to try but looking for the same kind of guarantee as icarriedawatermelon.

I just really don't feel like it at all at the moment and I can't figure out how they hell we'd manage it. Although as someone said, perhaps that's part of the fun.
