To f**k off to netmums because after a 'MN' break I return to find this place has got swamped by even more pretentious, snobby, bitchy talk than ever before

Think it was the coffee thread that did it tbh!

OP posts:

well its up to you where to go but I have to go against popular opinion and say I actually like netmums sometimes - I post on there about things I am sensitive about which would never leave my lips on mumsnet!. It is more huggy and less judgy but I like hugs occasionally! Plus I can type and spell as badly as I want there and no one shouts. BUT I love mumsnet because its more entertaining and if you dont want an honest answer rather than just support you certainly get it here.

is it something to do with the mumsnet demographic not being very clear? ie just because we're all mums we're expected to have something in common - same views, same perspectives etc.? I've learnt that there are some people who are itching (and I mean that its true sense) to respond provactively to postings...maybe that's how they get through their days - waiting for their kids to get home from school, sharing what can only be described as 'venom; ....and others who seem to be able to post without annihilating the intended recipient of their posting. i bet there are more than a few former school bullies on this site....all helped on by the virtual anonymity of it all. ....don't f off to another site.....stay here...stay calm...and laugh through it....that;s what i do....lots of very bitter people out there that are actually quite hilarious!!

FrameyMcFrame · 26/01/2010 00:06

sorry scottishmummy, twas not meant seriously.

an aggressive battering ram of passive potato based food products would be a great conspiracy though

MarineIguana · 26/01/2010 08:38

OP no I can't see it! Yes to bitchiness on MN (that's why I love it... up to a point obv) but not on the coffee thread. There's nothing wrong at all with liking nice coffee - it's not even snobby. Instant is horrible. If you don't like instant it's not rude to not have it at someone's house, any more than if you don't like tea or lemonade.

Also I think if anyone is actually really unpleasantly snobby or bitchy on here, they get pulled up on it very fast.

BambinolovesBeccie · 26/01/2010 09:29

I didn't find the coffee thread bitchy, but I did giggle when I read something about having sugar in tea makes you working class, or something along those lines.

Besides, Netmums is weird, even more so than Instant coffee.

Bucharest · 26/01/2010 09:36

I have sugar in tea and am the snobbiest ponce I know.

Off to read about coffee.

TiggyR · 26/01/2010 10:10

I know what you mean - the bitchiness and the one-upmanship, and the thinly veiled jealousy and inverted snobbery that dominates a handful of infamous posters' responses. They can't help but get really nasty with just about everyone who dares to suggest they might live a nice ordered straightforward happy successful life.

However - the coffee thread? Surely tis harmless enough? Do you really feel intimidated/put down by people because they prefer real coffee? Do you think they do it to pull class rank over you? Is so you have 'ishoos'.

TiggyR · 26/01/2010 10:12

That should be 'if so' - soz.

wigglybeezer · 26/01/2010 10:21

I make my own potato scones, is that poncey?

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 26/01/2010 10:55

Glasgowlass - am loving "fuckity bye" - it should be a mumsnet classic phrase right up there with 'off you fuck, there's a dear!'

And all the potato scone talk is making me hungry too......

MissPopOff · 26/01/2010 11:05

Althugh I have not bothered reading the coffee thread, as it doesn't interest me, I think OP meant the thread was pretentious and snobby (in her opinion) maybe bitchy wasn't referring to that particular thread and mumsnet in general.

Either way, she is allowed an opinion.

onlyjoinedforoffers · 26/01/2010 11:13

i cant be bothered reading the coffee thread but i have to agree to a certain extent with op mumsnet is like a pack of Hyenas sometimes and i wont be fucking off like a dear or fuckity buying anywhere

TiggyR · 26/01/2010 11:38

MissPopOff, the coffee thread is not remotely pretentious or snobby, any more than a thread about which nappy brand you prefer is! (Though I'm sure there has been many an accusation of snobbery over that.) It's a light hearted friendly discussion about tastes and preferences, and whether or not you believe that paying a bit more/taking a bit more time is worthwhile where coffee is concerned. Like so many other things on MN, it really needn't be brought down to a 'snobs v normal people' level, but sadly, inevitably it always is. The term 'snob' is bandied around too much on MN, as if anyone who dares to have any standards in anything at all must automatically be up their own arse.

BambinolovesBeccie · 26/01/2010 12:04

Potato scones, yes please. I'm making apple and strawberry crumble for DS tonight - but am using baby muesli as the topping. How fecking pikey am I
