To think that the recent spate of troll posts and deliberately provocative posts are actually ruining mumsnet

I love AIBU, i love a good barney same as the next guy but really, i haven't a clue what is sodding real anymore. I love the fun trolls, especially if they are clever. But when it is about sensitive subjects or just insulting our intelligence - its getting a bit much and i wonder if MNHQ should be considering some sort of control?

All these people complaining about trolls and WWC - who are you kidding?! If WWC is so boring then why does she get 300+ responses for every OP she writes? I think she's clever. It doesn't even matter whether it's true or not. It reminds me of debating club at school.

I do think a lot of people get too aerated about 'trolls' or whatever, and it's a sign that you're a bit too attached to MN. If you think someone's talking bollocks then just ignore it (unless they are getting money out of someone or something ridiculous). It's the internet. Every thread could be bollocks for all you know.

EdgarAllenSnow · 25/01/2010 19:55

well also, is all the politically correct BS - oh you can't mention a serious subject in less-than-serious terms, that's offensive! (this is an internet forum, not work, we don't have to be politically correct)

Or, you have said something i disagree with, you are evidently a troll (and then object to things the OP has not, in fact, said)

on WWCs Bf thread, there were plenty of people wanting to sound off, very few actually discussing the point of the OP...

and you get the feeling people want to be offended, and consequently it is unsuprising that they find offence....

AnyFucker · 25/01/2010 20:02

it's alllllllllllllllllllllllll bollocks

< moons >

Hullygully · 25/01/2010 20:05

I do feel everyone has somewhat strolled away from the point. Which is that I have unfeasibly large breasts and therefore deserve a castle. And I want it. Now.

Janos · 25/01/2010 20:07

I think tbh people have been saying trolls are ruining MNet for years.

Well, MNet is still going strong and will survive any number of trolls, I'm sure

nighbynight · 25/01/2010 20:13

I think it is very sad that WWC is being labelled as a troll. In the early days of MN, loads of people, myself included, posted similar things, and there was just good talk.

Now, just because someone seems to have a different view from the majority, they are labelled a troll or troublemaker.

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/01/2010 20:20

Heqet - I love and adore you but I disagree! I think the biscuit is an enhancement. Because sometimes people post about something which they are outraged/upset about and to see the biscuit as a reply says to them "but why are you reacting so? it really doesn't matter! step back and have another look at the problem in the cold light of day" etc.

I fully appreciate that many people on Mumsnet do not mind about trolls in any shape or form, but I really do. And lots of others do. Hence this thread.

nighbynight · 25/01/2010 20:21

I think the biscuit is snotty too.

tide · 25/01/2010 20:28

excuse my ignorance but I though this was a moderated forum. what's the report link for otherwise.

have been amazed at the snotty/vicious/plain insulting tone of a lot of the comments though. just as bad as the ignorant opionated f**kers who dominate debate on my local newspapers sites...

hello mum'snet: are you moderating anything?

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2010 20:30

no, tide

you're on your own here

...have you ever read Lord of the Flies?

Hullygully · 25/01/2010 20:32

It is moderated. No one without large breasts is allowed to stay. Have you sent your picture in yet?

Got any spare change?

nighbynight · 25/01/2010 20:33

Well, it's sort of lightly moderated. Moderated by angels, you might say.

Other fora have heavy mods who change your thread title to what they think it should be, and are breathing onto your keyboard.

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/01/2010 20:41

Jack - are you MW? previously CP?

Can't you settle on a bluddy name FFS!

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2010 20:50

yeeeeesssss!

thanks Bibbity. I know some people in RL (shiver) and don't want them to know what an itch/anker I am

...also don't like making MW say rude things, as it seems sorta disrespectful, iykwim, her being real and that

Hullygully · 25/01/2010 20:52

Who is dese peeps?

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2010 21:06

you look like you could use some of these pamphlets, Hully

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/01/2010 21:09

Hully, do not worry your mammaries over it dear. Unless you are prepared to unmask Umami, I will never reveal Jack's secret.

(Actually, SHJ, don't worry. I know tis grim to know other posters in rl).

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/01/2010 21:11

Heh heh.

Are you one of her lot then?

Heh heh heh.

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/01/2010 21:44

Jack - its funny, y'know, because I never post on that forum. I lurk and lurk but I never open my mouth, whereas I am not backwards in coming forwards on Mumsnet. Although I nearly had to post tonight in response to the poster who would not believe what happened (major crime thingy) no matter how many other regulars confirmed it. Daft bint.

tide · 25/01/2010 21:45

gulp: you're all so big and scarey.....
