Shopping in Waitrose this afternoon trying desperately to get baby to sleep in the process. Can't stay in the house currently during her big sleep as have builders in, so planned to do the big weekly shop. DD normally goes off to sleep like a dream but today decided she didn''t want anything without a fight.

I've learned to tune her out, apparently others havent. In the BABY aisle of all places, 2 OAP's blocked my trolley and said I was not allowed to leave the aisle until the baby stopped crying or I left the shop . DD in a sling btw. One of the OAP's SHOUTED that if I needed to 'shove your teat in its mouth then you better do it or I will take her myself and get someone to take you out'. Obv attracted other shoppers and security.

Manager came to see what the fuss was and after me explaining asked me to leave. I abandoned half-full trolley in serious flounce mode. I honestly they were being absolutely horrendously discriminatory against my crying newborn!!!! DH is being extremely unhelpful saying I should have left to 'take the high road' Do I actually have a legal case about this?

Kitty - I like you have just wasted my time reading this very surreal thread!
I agree with you - there is a definite whiff of man pretending to be female...........

No idea about the op - its certainly an origonal/unique experience whether true or false

RockbirdandHerSpork · 23/01/2010 09:28

Well s/he may be a nutter but s/he's sure as he'll got a lifeboat to her/himself

LauraIngallsWilder · 23/01/2010 09:41

Rockbird - rofl, so true!

JollyPirate · 23/01/2010 10:42

Am wondering if booboo is one of the OAPs hacked into MN actually.

MrsVidic · 23/01/2010 10:57

op yanbu- I hate waitrose.

Also I would never get to do my shopping if I had to abonden it everytime my baby started crying.

PS there's a Waitrose in Wilmslow

pagwatch · 23/01/2010 11:04

OAPS rioting in the aisle and now hacking. What the hell is going on in the posh shops of middle england!

agree boo is hairy handed type. People in his life raft would be flinging themselves into the icy seas.

quite good trolling though

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2010 11:15

this has to go on classic threads - it's hilarious.

from booboo's bizarre rantings about childrearing, an OP who namechanged for reasons not described to the funniest thing I've heard anyone on here say about 'oop north' (Orm it was you)

"We are too common and underevolved to have Waitroses. We have just been granted Sainburys. Prior to the we had bartering, poaching, robbery and Asda."

Classic

I was shopping in Waitrose in the Holloway Road two weekends ago, and accidentally brushed up against an old lady.

She clutched her bag to her in a theatrical fashion and started to scream out "Security, Security" at the top of her voice.

I asked her what was wrong and she shouted, "Get away from me, I know what you are doing!"

A couple of staff members appeared and she pointed at me and accused me of trying to pickpocket her.

The staff just stood there, looking at me as if I was some sort of criminal. I tried to explain to them all that it was ridiculous, but the staff suggested that I should leave the shop. I should have stood my ground and argued but, most unlike me, I didn't, and walked home feeling really tearful. It really upset me for days afterwards.

I've avoided that store since.

pagwatch · 23/01/2010 11:33

The children are out for an hour. I want to drive to Waitrose and rustle up a lynching - anyone with me?

just1moreplease · 23/01/2010 11:47

duelingfanjo there is a waitrose in pontprennau cadiff. just incase you wanted to check it out for yourself.

Paolosgirl · 23/01/2010 11:48

This thread is brilliant! From the indignance at the suggestion that this would/could ever happen in Waitrose to the obviously barking and trolling Booboo - MN at it's very best

Encore!!!

malovitt · 23/01/2010 12:05

I'll come, pagwatch.

Every time I go out now, I check my appearance carefully in the mirror to make sure I don't look like Fagin.

DuelingFanjo · 23/01/2010 12:12

oooh cool, I will check it out. Pontprennau though! Is there one in the new John Lewis?

Katisha · 23/01/2010 12:22

There's a £10 voucher orr a £50 spend in Waitrose in the Telegraph today...
Thought I'd mention it.
I might go off to Leedle though.

Katisha · 23/01/2010 12:22

Sorry that's "off" not "orr"

MadameCastafiore · 23/01/2010 12:30

If any of you who stuck up for the OP live near Sudbury - please refrain from taking your screaming kids to Waitrose there - I only go there as opposed to Colchester for the relaxed ambiance, to fondle the fruit and veg and have a quiet coffee.

The whole store reeks of quiet and calm and I would have requested that you feck off out of my space if you had a crying baby near me!

And I do not beliieve a word this woman is saying - what a far fetched story indeed!

just1moreplease · 23/01/2010 12:41

df i dont know, have only been in jl twice, always way too busy on a saturday.

Merrylegs · 23/01/2010 12:52

What pag said. About the cats. They are rubbish aren't they?

Katisha · 23/01/2010 12:57

Yes cats are awful. And yet every single person I know in this village seems to have about 3.

wukter · 23/01/2010 13:03

The thing about cats is, you have to teach 'em who's boss.

Umami · 23/01/2010 13:07

But, Wukter, it usually turns out to be the cat!

you mean 'ten pound Orff", what what?

GhoulsAreLoud · 23/01/2010 13:09

Did the OP ever come back and tell us which Waitrose it was?

wukter · 23/01/2010 13:10

Umami, you will have to wind yourself around their legs. Good luck with that.

Madam, fertile cats ONLY please. I hope you haven't had them spayed.
