Shopping in Waitrose this afternoon trying desperately to get baby to sleep in the process. Can't stay in the house currently during her big sleep as have builders in, so planned to do the big weekly shop. DD normally goes off to sleep like a dream but today decided she didn''t want anything without a fight.

I've learned to tune her out, apparently others havent. In the BABY aisle of all places, 2 OAP's blocked my trolley and said I was not allowed to leave the aisle until the baby stopped crying or I left the shop . DD in a sling btw. One of the OAP's SHOUTED that if I needed to 'shove your teat in its mouth then you better do it or I will take her myself and get someone to take you out'. Obv attracted other shoppers and security.

Manager came to see what the fuss was and after me explaining asked me to leave. I abandoned half-full trolley in serious flounce mode. I honestly they were being absolutely horrendously discriminatory against my crying newborn!!!! DH is being extremely unhelpful saying I should have left to 'take the high road' Do I actually have a legal case about this?

"all fertile adults should go first "

that's me fucked then

TigerDrivesAgain · 23/01/2010 00:24

crikey, is that how people speak on MSN? No wonder they don't shop in Waitrose

BitOfFun · 23/01/2010 00:25

DuelingFanjo- you may well be right, it seems Waitrose is their realm

Children are expenible- Bwahahahahaha

almay292 · 23/01/2010 00:25

I'd email the details of your experience and a link to this thread to Waitrose Customer Services and Corporate PR. Go as high as you can - board level if possible. Get the names first, don't use a generic email address. I'd also send them hard copies - i.e. letter plus print out of thread - and follow up with a call. It's a quicker and, I think, potentially more productive approach.

DuelingFanjo · 23/01/2010 00:26

This has been funny and educational.

wheresmypaddle · 23/01/2010 00:26

What are you talking about disasters for.

Having said that, anyone want Boobookins in their boat in a disaster- not me, you would get so angry at DS if he got scared- and we would fall out because I wont beat him to make him quiet.

Earlier I posted on a seperate thread that everyone is entitled to an opinion, I really meant it but wow you are something else.

TigerDrivesAgain · 23/01/2010 00:27

Yep, what's not to like about this thread?

apart from one troll poster, that is!

wheresmypaddle · 23/01/2010 00:28

DF please come in my boat if there's a disaster.

TigerDrivesAgain · 23/01/2010 00:31

can I come too? I am quite worried about being left with boobokins

boobookins · 23/01/2010 00:33

taking it to the extreme - one unreasonable child causes numerous adults to drown because they throw a tantrum you wont control because they don't understand?

No - I dont want to be in your boat. I want the boat where all living human beings are equal regardless of age - sirvival of the fittest

boobookins · 23/01/2010 00:34

if all you DC's went on the ark (for want of a better description) - where would the human race go?

How do you choose?

Adults first - children second

wheresmypaddle · 23/01/2010 00:39

Come aboard Tiger.

BooBookins my boat won't necessarily sink due to my toddlers tantrum- I am not refusing to control him but won't be beating him.

Will you be voluntarily drowning yourself then, if you don't get the vote to be among the 'fittest' - you wouldn't get my vote.

TigerDrivesAgain · 23/01/2010 00:42

Thanks wmp, if I may shorten your name thus.
It's a pleasure to be aboard. Shall we sing a sea shanty?

KittyNotVengefulAnymore · 23/01/2010 00:45

Shit.

It has taken me over half hour to red this thread (minus last few posts after an F5) and I have come to the conclusions:

Booboo is quite clearly a Troll. That or a very fucked up individual. And for some reason I want to say male as well.

OP could very well be telling truth. I have seen a very similar incident occur in Sainsburys. The mother wasn't ordered to leave, but it was suggested that it may be easier if she left and returned later.

wheresmypaddle · 23/01/2010 00:46

Yes good plan!! Can you row for a bit cause I'm knackered, need to go to bed. Thanks for your support- not sure where we fit in the 'survival of the fittest stakes' but think we'll make it to the island!!

TigerDrivesAgain · 23/01/2010 00:48

I'll take over until my glass is empty for a moment then. Night night.

Land ahoy!

DuelingFanjo · 23/01/2010 00:50

KittyNotVengefulAnymore

I suspected male too, though I don't really know why. A male Troll of some kind.

I am an able seaman you know, I'm happy to be aboard the boat. If we start sinking we throw someone out - right?

KittyNotVengefulAnymore · 23/01/2010 00:53

OK, I am pissed and re-reading random posts, but "fertile adults first" on the ark???

Children are more likely to grow up to be fertile than adults are likely to remain fertile, no?

Unless they are. No. Not going there. Even pissed I shall not lower myself to Booboos standards.

FFS - HAHAHAHAHH!!!! fecking ark.

KittyNotVengefulAnymore · 23/01/2010 00:54

DF - I know! It just seems so much more masculine than feminine... I can't pinpoint why, but I just reckon male!

DuelingFanjo · 23/01/2010 00:56

possibly because all men are bastards

KittyNotVengefulAnymore · 23/01/2010 01:02

Aha! DF - you are on my wavelength!!

justsue · 23/01/2010 01:51

OMG boobookins u are truly a nutter

Ha ha ha. Booboo is one of those childless women (or men) who you just can't wait to have their first child. LOL at comparing kittens to babies and eight year olds to newborns.

luckyblackcat · 23/01/2010 09:19

If this did actually happen as OP says (there may have been a reveal by stealth as I got to half way and skipped to the end) the things have changed greatly in Waitrose staff attitude since I had DS 5 yrs ago.

DS who has sn and as a baby couldn't support himself, due to extreme muscle weakness, at all and therefore couldn't get comfy in the baby seat trolleys and screamed blue murder all the way around. Once when flustered and I told the manager that there were no trolley to fit my own baby seat into and ds couldn't cope with these.

He immediately got a member of staff to push my trolley for me so I could push Ds in a pram. He then invited me and Ds to come and try out sample trolleys to find one he fitted in comfortably and then he ordered loads of them, but until they arrived I was given my own member of staff to push my trolley.

When I contacted head office to sing his praises, they were a bit, "well it is no less than we expect."

So I do feel that there may be a little more to this than has been explained in Op
