Foul language on Mumsnet…

Foul language on Mumsnet?

Having newly registered with Mumsnet I am dismayed, after perusing uTube and other forum sites where obscenities constantly pop up, to note use of foul language on this ?family site?.

I reported the swearing, specifically, where ?arseholes? was utilised as a reference to political parties.

The return I got from Mumsnet HQ was ??we don't think we
should be the arbiters of what people should find offensive and what
they shouldn't.? and ??We generally find it's better to let the boards self-
police??

May I engage you all in a quick survey?

Hands up all those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? as an offensive expression that should not be used on these boards??

Thank you?

Hands up those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? inoffensive??

Thanks?

Looks like the arseholes have it!

I have a large vocabulary and a wealth of experience working with words as a copywriter, writer and editor. I am not normally stressed out, and I am not thick.

I love swearing.

I especially love arsebiscuits, fuckwit, fucksocks, wankstain, clungefuck and shitbox.

So there.

idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 11:54

Go ask your local CP team at SS and I am sure they will happily speak to you about foul language and the effects on your children!

As for the remark about punctuation..... you are too funny!! I have a Degree in English, what do you have?? Oh yes, NOTHING!! ha ha!!

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:55

now that its come to light that i am fick with a low IQ, should i give back my degree and quit my job?

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:57

SO if i tell SS i swear (in text) on a parenting forum, will they take my children away?

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/01/2010 11:58

I think the point, idontlikeit, is that we don't swear in front of our children, we swear on here.

Personally, I find spelling mistakes and grammatical errors far more offensive than swearing.

As has already been said, if you don't like it please go elsewhere.

Tamarto · 19/01/2010 11:59

Oh i love clungefuck!

So ss will explain to me, why me typing swearwords on the internet while they are at school will affect them. lolz

You are too funny!

Longtalljosie · 19/01/2010 11:59

I, too, have a degree in English. It's one of the many reasons I would never use two exclamation marks in a row.

Heaven knows what you would have said to Chaucer.

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 11:59

idontlikeit, the university that gave you a degree must be staffed by a right bunch of thick cunts if they never picked you up on "dont."

NotAnOtter · 19/01/2010 12:00

i fail to see how spelling mistakes offend

I have been on mumsnet a while now and earlier the swearing was much less

i find the 'if you dont like it - go elsewhere' attitude the most offensive of all

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 12:01

Damn it Bell you spoilt it now, i was timing to see how long it took idonlikeit to realise that, infact, we dont swear in front of our children

I had estimated 2 days, seeing as she is more intelligent than the rest of us

Longtalljosie · 19/01/2010 12:01

I wouldn't use a capital letter for degree, either, come to that.

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/01/2010 12:02

Oh, and do brush up on your ellipsis when you go.

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 12:02

NotAnOtter - well I fail to see how swearwords offend

idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 12:07

The fact you use the words you have on here is bad enough, it is obvious what kind of person you are to know these words in the first instance!

As for the punctuation, grammar etc, when you are typing in haste you can make errors.

But I never said I was perfect, I just am not lowest of the low with awful vocabulary.

My degree was from one of the top universities thanks for asking!

You are a lovely bunch thanks for entertaining me while I am on a in a chauffeured car en route to a meeting.

Bobbiewickham · 19/01/2010 12:10

LOLOLOLOL!

I love you idontlikeit.

I think you're bloody great, I really do.

Did they not do commas at your top university, though? That last post could have done with a few.

Just saying.

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/01/2010 12:11

NotAnOtter, I hope I haven't really offended you?

I found the implication from idontlikeit that she was speaking from a position of authority because she has a degree in English and her assumption that VT "had nothing" extremely offensive. Far more offensive than any amount of swearing, in fact.

Lulumama · 19/01/2010 12:11

so, even knowing a swear word makes you a bad parent?

I am fairly confident that social workers have more pressing issues to deal with , wrt to neglect /abuse, than some women using four letter words on an internet forum

this kind of snobbery really does not engender a decent debate, it becomes one upmanship and demonstrating how superior you think your degree/job/use of punctuation makes you

i thikn beating your children, or abandoning them, or not changing their nappies for 48 hours would be a far worse instance of abuse than typing f or c

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 12:12

Your'e welcome, it's been nice chatting to you from my yacht in the Carribean

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/01/2010 12:13

rofl at suggestions that as this is a family site we should be avoiding any adult language. Oh yes, I'm sure we all having family time, sitting with our dcs round the laptop while we post on how much we tore when giving birth, what neat tricks we use to trick our kids into eating vegetables, who we'd shag if we weren't with their father etc., etc

fwiw, I am offended by the incorrect use of words and think you'll find the word 'feral' can't be used to describe children who can speak, are spoken to, have loving parents, who enjoy a social life and have friends

BelleDameSansMerci · 19/01/2010 12:14

Heavens, idontlikeit, a chauffeured car en route to a meeting? Is that like a taxi then?

displayuntilbestbefore · 19/01/2010 12:15

lol Belle

GibbonInARibbon · 19/01/2010 12:16

Had to pop out and pick DD up.

I have never sworn in front of my child and it was foolish of you to assume that because people swear on an Internet forum, it means that they spout profanities all day long in RL.

I think your 'professional opinion' malarkey is a load of old tosh. You know that though, which is why you can't provide any specific examples.

MrsMattie · 19/01/2010 12:17

pmsl @'chauffered car'

PuzzleRocks · 19/01/2010 12:18

Ooh a chauffeured car.
[doffs cap and tugs forelock]

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 12:19

I'm not offended that she thinks i have nothing Belle

There are some folk in this world who think they are the only people with an education/career, its not my fault they are fuckwitted enough to think that
