Foul language on Mumsnet…

Foul language on Mumsnet?

Having newly registered with Mumsnet I am dismayed, after perusing uTube and other forum sites where obscenities constantly pop up, to note use of foul language on this ?family site?.

I reported the swearing, specifically, where ?arseholes? was utilised as a reference to political parties.

The return I got from Mumsnet HQ was ??we don't think we
should be the arbiters of what people should find offensive and what
they shouldn't.? and ??We generally find it's better to let the boards self-
police??

May I engage you all in a quick survey?

Hands up all those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? as an offensive expression that should not be used on these boards??

Thank you?

Hands up those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? inoffensive??

Thanks?

Looks like the arseholes have it!

So if you use a swear word you are either stressed or have a low IQ and and limited vocabulary?

Can I ask, do you honestly believe this?

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 11:38

I love it when prudes claim that the reason they don't swear is because they have a superior vocabulary.

idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 11:38

Not the odd swear word no but the words used here and in the manner in which they are yes, its a sign of a low IQ if you cannot speak without using such awful words.

Ask a professional and they will tell you it is a sure sign you are either uneducated or losing your mind!

idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 11:39

fairycake, I am not a prude,I am a mother and I can see why society has its problems with parents like some of the examples here.

Good grief idontlike it you're just making it up now.

What professional, pray tell, would make a sweeping generalisation like that?

OtterInaSkoda · 19/01/2010 11:42

The only word I've read thus far on this thread that I would happily see banned is "chav".

Tamarto · 19/01/2010 11:44

'its a sign of a low IQ if you cannot speak without using such awful words.'

What a load of claptrap. Even if it were true, no one here is speaking so shove that up your pipe and smoke it

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/01/2010 11:44

Also very curious about the professional who says swearing is a sure sign you are losing your mind ... I never say this, but please can you link?

idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 11:45

MrsMattie you may snigger but the WI were interviewed yesterday discussing their links with mumsnet!!

Gibbon; Talk to anyone who deals with Child Protection, or works in Mental Health ;)

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 11:45

idontlikeit, you are so, so right. Swearing is DEFINITELY the cause of most - if not all - of the social ills that face Britain today. There is no question of that, and it takes someone with a razor-sharp intellect and amazing insight to see that.

It makes me really, really fucking sad that there aren't more people who are that clever about

idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 11:46

Tamarto, do you not worry that your children may grown up feral with listening to your language?

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 11:46

idon'tlikeit - a professional fuckwit, so you mean?

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:46

idontlikeit, can you point me in the direction of a professional so i can ask them? what sort of professional are you talking about anyway?

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 11:47

idontlikeit, aren't you worried that your kids will grow up thick, given that you know fuck all about basic punctuation?

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:49

so if i say 'fuckoff dickhead' on an internet forum, my child will be mentally scared for life?

fairycake123 · 19/01/2010 11:50

VT - obviously! Are you telling me you didn't know that?! What the fuck is wrong with you?

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:51

i'm obviously fick with a low iq

Tamarto · 19/01/2010 11:52

What is there for them to hear? If their teacher is swearing at them right now, i'll consider that fact!
Funny enough the police said the same when the 5 year old got her first ASBO, we are still waiting to get it framed

And just for the terminally stupid, my 5 year old doesn'tr have an asbo but i live in hope

MrsGazebo · 19/01/2010 11:53

Dare I throw my tuppence in ....
There is no such thing as an offensive word, just the context in which the word is used.

CuntingArsehole · 19/01/2010 11:53

Errr... Mental Health Professional here.

And all I have to say is "What a load of Bollocks!"
