Foul language on Mumsnet…

Foul language on Mumsnet?

Having newly registered with Mumsnet I am dismayed, after perusing uTube and other forum sites where obscenities constantly pop up, to note use of foul language on this ?family site?.

I reported the swearing, specifically, where ?arseholes? was utilised as a reference to political parties.

The return I got from Mumsnet HQ was ??we don't think we
should be the arbiters of what people should find offensive and what
they shouldn't.? and ??We generally find it's better to let the boards self-
police??

May I engage you all in a quick survey?

Hands up all those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? as an offensive expression that should not be used on these boards??

Thank you?

Hands up those that deem ?ARSEHOLES? inoffensive??

Thanks?

Looks like the arseholes have it!

Hmmm. And you're sounding quite School Ma'am-ish, there, purplepeony...

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/01/2010 10:47

Fuck the fucking fuck off

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:49

jesus...

get a grip on yourselves. if this microbe really is a new member of mn, would it kill us to engage?

Tortington · 19/01/2010 10:50

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:51
Hmm
Tortington · 19/01/2010 10:51

yes quite Aitch, Right girls line up and go to class quietly

OtterInaSkoda · 19/01/2010 10:51

Shouldn't it be knobber?

happymatleave · 19/01/2010 10:53

I can't swear! It doesn't come naturally to me in real life and I find it even harder to write it down.

Cun...., fu....., No, can't do it!

I don't find it offensive though, I think it's really funny on here.

I'm going to try harder in future. Do I have a weird defect or does anyone else have this problem?

OtterInaSkoda · 19/01/2010 10:57

Microbe as others have said, being allowed to swear is one of the things we love about MN. So YABU to want to curtail that.

I am more upset when I see posters being leapt upon unreasonably - particularly when it seems like people are joining forces to do so - and some of the troll hunting is tiresome. I think though OP that you probably had it coming this time

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:58

yup, custy, anyone who thinks that sticking their finger up their arse etc isn't hilarious is a schoolteacher. of course.

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 10:59

Oh i think microbe is a regular who was prob. bored/pissed last night

Tortington · 19/01/2010 11:03

yes ofcourse Aitch, somehow this is all about teachers and sticking fingers up you arse. it was not intended as a comic play on your bumsex comment and the intention behind my comments ( as always) was malicious and weighed heavy with hidden meaning

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 11:05

i'm going to leave you to your fantasies, i think, custardo, because i gather that as usual you are Taking Things Too Far.

Tortington · 19/01/2010 11:07
Hmm
daisytattoo · 19/01/2010 11:14

I am shocked by the language and offensive posts on here, seriously if you lot are parents I pity your children being dragged up by such people.

No wonder the country is in the state its in, maybe instead of being chavs you need to go clean your homes and concentrate on parenting lessons!

You really should be ashamed!!

And to think the WI want to be linked to a site like this!!

daftpunk · 19/01/2010 11:15

I hope you don't really do disgusting things with your fingers custardo..

I have made physical contact with you...and possibly a few of those fingers...

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/01/2010 11:17

Microbe (if you are real) I have to say I admire your chutzpah. Or, perhaps, on the other hand I think you may not have thought this through fully. Mumsnet has existed for nearly 10 years without your input. Do you really honestly think that this debate hasn't been had before? You must have a huge ego, or a little brain, if you think stating your own preferences are going to change the way the site operates and all these hundreds of thousands of posters who have been here for years.

Yes, of course, there will be some, possibly even quite a few of the old guard, who agree with you on the particular matter of swearing, but on the whole most of us like Mumsnet as it is (give or take a bit of grumbling).

GibbonInARibbon · 19/01/2010 11:19

Now I am confused as to who is being ironic and who is really outraged?

My head hurts.

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:21

thats a nice chav nickname you have there daisytattoo

daisytattoo · 19/01/2010 11:25

I thought it was fitting in such a discussion! Just thought you needed to be reminded you are meant to be Adults, Parents and lead example to your children.

As for being a chav, its not me with the vulgarities, but then that says something about you and me doesn't it, I am obviously educated and mannered.

I have decided mumsnet is not a place for me if this language is acceptable.

As I said I pity the children of parents who use such vulgarity.

VinegarTits · 19/01/2010 11:26

oh well, bye then

posieparker · 19/01/2010 11:27

Don't nethuns and baby slingshot natural mothers use words like itches and the like to avoid swearing?

Tamarto · 19/01/2010 11:30

PMSL

Who let my mum on here!

GibbonInARibbon · 19/01/2010 11:31
Grin
idontlikeit · 19/01/2010 11:31

posieparker, has it ever occured to you that some people do not feel the need to use such language because they are not as stressed out as others who feel the need too, or maybe its because they have low IQ and and limited vocabulary.

Hope your kids are not allowed to read your posts.
