My husband is a chef and tonight is doing a seven course meal which he has been planning for a good couple of months. He has made sure that there is a vegetarian choice but has been informed today that one of the vegetarians going doesn't eat vegetables or quorn.
What the hell is that about? AIBU to be think this is totally ridiculous and to feel really sorry for dh?

How can a vegetarian not eat vegetables? Are they a child? YANBU.

catinthehat2 · 14/01/2010 17:31

Very good!

Blackduck · 14/01/2010 17:34

I am a vegetarian and I am stumped - if they don't eat vegetables, or quorn what DO they eat?? Can I come instead?

Blackduck · 14/01/2010 17:35

Ohh maybe they eat cheese.....give them a lump of chedder and a cracker...

mesobitchy · 14/01/2010 17:35

It must be my DD. Tell your DH to give her a cheese omlette.

YANBU - how annoying for your DH. Have they said what this person does eat?

MrsGubbins · 14/01/2010 17:38

YANBU they're giving vegetarians a bad name (and I am one) if I was your DH I would serve them egg and chips. I can understand the not eating quorn business, but would be very interested in exactly what they do eat if they claim not to eat vegetables!!

actually maybe they are fruitarians... in which case serve them half a grapefruit with a glace cherry in the middle, freaks.

on second thoughts, just uninvite them.

Laquitar · 14/01/2010 17:42

7 course meal???

I can come! I m easy to please

PeedOffWithNits · 14/01/2010 17:42

melon

lentil soup

rice cake with marmite

plain boiled rice and/or pasta

fruit salad

crackers and grapes (cheese if they eat it)

coffee

there you go, a 7 course meal

madhairingintothetens · 14/01/2010 17:43

Can't imagine. Not eat vegetables? I'm veggie and not over keen on quorn (but will eat it if given me) but can't imagine what I'd eat if I didn't eat vegetables. How bizarre. poor dh. Give them some bread and butter

MrsMattie · 14/01/2010 17:43

Vegetarians who don't eat vegetables? Freakazoids!

I would be tempted to give them a pot noodle

Laquitar · 14/01/2010 17:44

Ah! Is Riven back? [happy emotion]

Lizzzombie · 14/01/2010 17:44

Lots of people (including me - a veggie & my FIL - a carnivore) are hideously allergic to Quorn.
Apparently its banned in America because so many people are allergic to it.

You can do lots of 'fun things' with pulses!

Anybody who doesn't eat vegetables is odd IMO. None at all?

Ziggurat · 14/01/2010 17:50

Anyone that fussy does not deserve to be cooked for. Fact.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 14/01/2010 17:53

I used to work with a woman who was constantly ' on a diet'

However she never ever ate veg or fruit, not even juice. No wonder she just kept gaining weight.

GettinTrimmer · 14/01/2010 17:54

The Devil Wears Primark - she was probably constantly tired also.

catinthehat2 · 14/01/2010 18:03

Come back OP......
Here's my suggestion:

Water biscuit

Cold water

Hot miso

Hot water

Small spoon of marmite

Mug of hot marmite

An ice cube for pudding

FerretInYourTrews · 14/01/2010 18:07

LOL I love all the suggestions. I'm not sure what he actually is going to do but he's speaking to his boss about it. I think the pot noodle idea is great he could just sprinkle some parsley on it to make it posh.
I think it must be so boring and how can she be healthy?

Eat what your given!
your DH has catered for their vegetarinism which is fine, but its rude to not eat other stuff just because they dont like it.

my sis ter is a vegetarian

she survives on

beans on toast
chocolate
benson & hedges

Pozzled · 14/01/2010 18:17

YANBU. If the meal has been planned for a couple of months, why on earth has your DH not been contacted before this with such specific requirements?

If I was the veggie concerned I would have contacted the organisers ahead of time, and been prepared to give suggestions for what I COULD eat.
