Just had a call to say my Gran has fallen and broken both her wrists on the untreated pavements...paths round us are a nightmare, too...so am having a facist moment and thinking people being kept by the government could 'pay some back' by clearing footpaths...

I'm sure I'm right in assuming OP that you've never used NHS services, NHS dentist or the like and have never recieved working tax credits or child tax credits?

Because obviously if you have you'd be out in the cold paying back your debt to society

As others have pointed out you should of been helping your poor nan out instead of spewing vile hateful shit on the Internet.

ThingumyandBob · 09/01/2010 16:18

Yes, silly me, I just knew that my shit list was not long enough??the SAHM?s, I forgot, they should be out the longest, what an easy life they all have.

coolma · 09/01/2010 16:18

Don't forget the homeless - you know those lazy gits who want to be on the streets

Ivykaty44 · 09/01/2010 17:32

Oh goodness I can see SAHM running away with a crim and the BS board will get as they are not nearly as dishey looking

monkeyfeathers · 09/01/2010 18:52

Not relevant to forcing whole groups of people one feels superior to out to shovel snow and other menial tasks whether they like it or not, but still on the thread somewhere...

"..you see a lot of 'he (sic)' where the author wants to point out that they would never be so mysognistic as to refer to people of unspecified gender as male"

Or for example, they simply just can't be arsed to get into the he/she debate. Because they know someone is going to jump on it so they pre-empt it to stop wasting everybody's time?'

Readers should not jump on writers for other people's words. Fair enough jump on them if they think their own use of language or assumptions are problematic, but it's not their fault if someone writing in another time, place and disciplinary context does not share the editorial norms of another time, place and disciplinary context. The fact that they do is hugely problematic.

Writers should stop using the written equivalent of rolling their eyes just to placate some people who are desperate to accuse anyone and everyone of mysogeny and just get on with quoting people where it's relevant to their argument. If the gender (or whatever) issue is actually relevant to what they're writing, then they can actually discuss it in the text (or in a footnote).

CitizenPrecious · 10/01/2010 22:05

apparently in East London offenders have been clearing the streets

I imagine OP has now gone to bed Tired But Happy

LillianGish · 10/01/2010 22:12

That's a very German suggestion mmrred. They make them sweep the leaves in autumn as well.
