Just had a call to say my Gran has fallen and broken both her wrists on the untreated pavements...paths round us are a nightmare, too...so am having a facist moment and thinking people being kept by the government could 'pay some back' by clearing footpaths...

OP posts:
2snowshoes · 08/01/2010 22:43

omg I am sooooooo rich
I will have to clear 2 roads now
whils dh does one and dd does another..........not forgetting ds(gets EMA) does the reast of the world.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 22:44

You get to do a steep hill(you could just give dd a shove though to speed it up....)

2snowshoes · 08/01/2010 22:44

shit I am still thinking about naked prisoners of the male persuasion, clearing snow

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 08/01/2010 22:44

FA - it's their fault it snowed probably

monkeyfeathers · 08/01/2010 22:45

Clearly stopping at those on jobseekers allowance or income support would be foolish. All those scroungers on DLA (etc) should definitely get out there and shovel snow. So what if their particular disability means they can't walk or hold a shovel, or anything like that. Why not just strap a snowplough attachment to their wheelchairs?

And there's no need to worry about childcare! They're all scroungers, every last one of them, so they'll be out shovelling with the rest of then. See above for a response to anyone who thinks any of the (very) little layabouts have an excuse for not contributing.

Now to move on to pensioners. Sure, they've all contributed to society but that was all in the past, you can't just rest on your laurels and let everyone else support you! Perhaps exceptions could be made for those who continue to pay tax on their pensions, but the rest of them should be out shovelling.

I see that convicted criminals and immigrants have already been conscripted into the snow clearing ranks, but surely there must be more categories of people to force out to clear our pavements.

Nevergoogle · 08/01/2010 22:46

AIBU to think that if you care enough about your elderly relatives you should be getting their shopping in for them and helping them so they don't have to go out in this weather.
NOT blaming the unemployed for your laziness?

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 08/01/2010 22:46

ooooo monkey feathers - you've forgotten those on ESA, tutt tutt tutt

MillyR · 08/01/2010 22:47

Teachers could ride the horses to supervise the pensioners, as they are all off work.

Monty100 · 08/01/2010 22:47

MMRD said 'so am having a facist moment...'

Indeed you are. Now fox off there's a dear.

golgi · 08/01/2010 22:47

I think the teachers should be doing it. After all, the schools are closed so they have spare time on their hands......

Monty100 · 08/01/2010 22:49

*facist [sic]

almostreal · 08/01/2010 22:50

nevergoogle I was thinking the exact same thing, surely if the OP was so worried about his grandmother he could have been clearing her pavement and making sure she didn't need to leave the house or go with her if she really had do.

2snowshoes · 08/01/2010 22:50

*facist [sic]
sorry high jack
what does the sic bit mean(always wondered)

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 22:52

Oh come on thats unfair.

OP couldlive 250 miles away or be disabled or whatever.

I've be worried about my parents if they were just a few years older but Mum'd kill me herself if I risked my life todrive there!

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 22:53

It means that the spelling owas taken from the original so explaining away any errors

2snowshoes · 08/01/2010 22:53

mil has a neighbour who says if she goes out of the house he will lock her in
can't we just get all the BNP supporters to do it

sparklefrog · 08/01/2010 22:55

monkeyfeathers I just laughed out loud for the first time today, but probably shouldn't have Thank you.

Monty100 · 08/01/2010 22:56

2snowshoes - sic as Peach describes, quoted as was written/said.

groundhogs · 08/01/2010 22:57

oh, this ought to be fun...

OP, why didn't YOU go and clear your own GM path?

Gets marshmallows for the continued roasting to come.....

monkeyfeathers · 08/01/2010 22:59

It's difficult trying to make sure I catch all the scroungers, since I'm just not familiar enough with the benefits system to know about them all. This is of course because I am lucky and fortunate far superior and more hardworking!

In fact, I'm not sure that the millions of scroungers who claim tax credits of any kind should be let off. Sure many of them work hard for long hours, but they have the cheek to take handouts from the government, so they owe society.

how many square metres do you think I owe?

2snowshoes · 08/01/2010 23:02

Monty27 thanks I have never known what it meant

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 08/01/2010 23:03

fair enough I'll let you off for forgetting ESA then monkey.

I reckon if ou claim tax credits and work you should be allowed to do a little less.........those of us on benefits and getting CTC should have to do more.

monkeyfeathers · 08/01/2010 23:08

Well yes. Obviously. Those paying tax a higher rates would have to clear even less.

However, I did claim IS and CTC when DS1 was small. And then there's the number of years I spent at university, getting my fees paid and a grant/stipend and everything. And all those years of schooling I benefitted from before that. And all the medical care I've received during my life...

It all has to be made up for, you know.

monkeyfeathers · 08/01/2010 23:11

Which reminds me... Students should definitely be out there shovelling. It'll give them (and the unemployed) valuable work experience to put on their CVs.
