Just been watching Got to dance and seen an 11 year old girl dancing. She seems lovely and is a fantastic dancer but is smothered in make up and wearing a sort of sparkly catsuit thing with cut outs .... AIBU to find this outfit a bit yucky? It reminded me of one of those American baby beauty queens...

sounds horrid.

cheesesarnie · 03/01/2010 20:04

dd was given a black velvet catsuit with cut outs a few years ago(shes now 9) it accidently went to the charity shop before she even saw it.

where on earth was she suppose to wear it?!

Kbear · 03/01/2010 20:10

my friend's girls do this kind of dancing and she pays up to a grand for the costumes - each - and they have a spray tan before shows and half a ton of make up and nails and when she shows me their latest costumes or their photos I say "lovely" and do that "hope she can't read my mind" face - sort of raised eyebrows and wide smile!!!!

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 03/01/2010 20:14

hmmm I'm on the fence about this one - as apart from the make-up it's really no different to any other sport that children do the same as adults

Young footballers put on football shirts/boots
Gymnasts put on leotards
Swimmers put on swimming costumes
Martial artists put on the

DD competes (ballroom & latin) but I am very careful about what she wears, clothes, make-up & hair

She looks 12....not like a slapper (imo)

slummybutyummy · 03/01/2010 20:22

Katymac - that's what I mean - why can't we just watch her and think wow what a great dancer and just let her look her age.
Awassailing - I know what you mean and am not anti-sequin or a bit of make up but this really made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I think she could have been fine with a catsuit and a bit of make up even but this was just WAY OTT!

YANBU

A work colleague of mine is always showing off photos of her 7 year old DD in similar clothing. She (the DD) has a fake tan before a dance competition, has thick makeup applied, false eyelashes, highlights in her hair, and wears tiny costumes with bits cut out. Just plain awful for a 7 year old. And she poses in ways 7 year olds shouldn't be posing (not sexual, just older iykwim). Poor child.

Katymac · 03/01/2010 20:27

Maybe I am fooling myself

have a look

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 03/01/2010 20:29

Katy - is that your DD???? She's gorgeous >>

slummybutyummy · 03/01/2010 20:30

She looks lovely, Katymac - and if she is wearing make up then it doesn't show, she looks natural and like a 12 year old who can dance. I hope the producers suggest a similar makeover for this little girl.

Katymac · 03/01/2010 20:32

She is 12 & wearing more make up in that photo than has ever before or since

That is particularly good photo of DH & her - my baby

TeaOneSugar · 03/01/2010 20:38

I thought the same, it was the low back I didn't like.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 03/01/2010 20:39

does he dance.....ermm well not very well or at least not "proper" dancing LOL

DS2 would probably be a pretty good at it given the chance..but I think he's a bit young for her

slummybutyummy · 03/01/2010 20:41

I don't think the link was right..it's

sky1.sky.com/got-to-dance-audition-photographs photos 10 and 11.

She actually wasn't ghastly and stagey which is what I was expecting from the costume.

Re the sons - will there be an audition katymac? My 12 year old dances!

slummybutyummy · 03/01/2010 21:01
