Just been watching Got to dance and seen an 11 year old girl dancing. She seems lovely and is a fantastic dancer but is smothered in make up and wearing a sort of sparkly catsuit thing with cut outs .... AIBU to find this outfit a bit yucky? It reminded me of one of those American baby beauty queens...

kbear I think those are even worse! I am so glad I don't have to deal with a dd that wants to do this!

Damn

Boys are so rare

islandofsodor · 03/01/2010 21:23

I don;t like this dance style but the costume the girl was wearing was standard regulation for freestyle comps.

MakeYerOwnDamnDinner · 03/01/2010 21:49

I think it's gross.

To sexualise children in this way is so sinister.

Lipstick is supposed to mimick the look of the vaginal lips when they are engorged and aroused.

Why would anybody want to put that on their little girl?

I saw a programme about the american beauty pageants, where the children were being taught to 'sparkle' at the judges. They were pouting and flirting, and the (male) judges were... well, judging.

Personally I think the mothers (sorry, pimps) of those little girls should be reported to social services.

SleighGirl · 03/01/2010 21:54

Katymac I actually think your dd looks younger than 12 in that photos.

She looks stunning but def a child still IYSWIM

"Lipstick is supposed to mimick the look of the vaginal lips when they are engorged and aroused."

eh - really - that's a new one on me

Wastwinsetandpearls · 03/01/2010 21:59

Katy she looks stunning.

WrigglingAndJiggling · 03/01/2010 22:15

Katymac - she looks absolutely amazing!

nooka · 03/01/2010 22:26

I don't think that the costume is particularly inappropriate - it doesn't look sexual to me. However I do think that the look is really quite bizarre. It just looks very poorly done - I wonder what the effect was supposed to be?

Katy that's a really lovely picture. Your daughter looks very lovely (both beautiful and very much a little girl being consciously a young lady - I think this is such a lovely age) and her dad looks very proud.

ChippingIn · 04/01/2010 07:45

I agree with nooka - I don't think the costume is inappropriate and it doesn't look sexual to me either, just very theatrical - like a 'Cats' style costume.

Theatre costumes like this cannot be compared to the (revolting) American Children's 'Beauty' Pagents - which IMHO should be banned.

KatyMac - your daughter & DH look lovely Shame there aren't more boys interested in dancing!

madamearcati · 04/01/2010 10:14

Katymac she may not be wearing makeup but she is styled like an adult in terms of hairstyle and dangly earrings and pictured dancing with an adult man looks a bit (even if in reality it is her dad ? )

Kbear · 04/01/2010 10:43

Katymac - picture 1691 - lovely!

So - fathers should never publicly dance with their daughters? It is shameful, somehow?

saltyseadog · 04/01/2010 11:56

What a weird thing to say madamearcati

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/01/2010 12:05

Katymac - what a beauty. She's so gorgeous. And looks perfect for her age and the dancing. Wow.

have to say she is very pretty

DuelingFanjo · 04/01/2010 13:00

in my opinion, the costume is designed to show off her flexibility as well as the dance moves. I don't think it's inappropriate but I do think it's inapprpriate for people to attach sexual meaning to it.

It's like when I wear a mini skirt I would very much like to do so without worrying that someone thinks I am wearing it to titilate them.

How did you feel about the young boy who danced with his shirt open?

snowedinwithJjandtheBean · 04/01/2010 14:15

Enough said. I hate seeing young girls dressed like that!

katymac, your DD looks amazing, I love seeing dancers in that kind of costume, I'd love to give it a go myself but I'm too old I think! (20, but you know, the really good dancersstart younger!)
