that I haven't 'contributed much' when she asked how many children I had and I told her one.

fairycake123 · 23/12/2009 19:25

Er, what?! Contributed to what, exactly? She sounds very strange to me...

bluesparklypartydress · 23/12/2009 19:26

Bizarre comment! What was the context?

choufleur · 23/12/2009 19:27

global warming? over population of the world?

VeronicaMars · 23/12/2009 19:31

'how are you keeping, haven't seen you in years, how's you dm? how are you, is this your little girl?'
Yes this is * she's 4yo'
'How many have you got?'
'Just the one'
'Oh God, you haven't contributed much to the world, have you'
Dont' think I even answered.

BlueBumpBlaze · 23/12/2009 19:35

Tell her, 'You're right - with only one child I HAVEN'T contributed much to climate change. One child has kept my carbon footprint quite low, isn't that wonderful?'

Before parents with more than one child jump in and flame me, this is meant tongue-in-cheek.

choufleur · 23/12/2009 19:35

how many does she have?

bluesparklypartydress · 23/12/2009 19:38

tell her quality not quantity

OrmIrian · 23/12/2009 19:40

How odd.

Is there a national child pool that we are supposed to contribute to? If so when do I get an appreciation of my efforts

fairycake123 · 23/12/2009 19:41

Are you a broodmare?

DaisymooSteiner · 23/12/2009 19:43

Lizzie from Wife Swap will be in line for an OBE then if that's the criteria.

cookielove · 23/12/2009 19:43

was it a duggar?

DontCallMeSantaBaby · 23/12/2009 19:44

Wow, that really does call for the 'you DO realise you said that out loud?' line.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 19:58

I can't even work out what she might have meant. How freaky.

AMumInScotland · 23/12/2009 19:58

What a strange person! Why on earth would having more children equate to contributing to the world. The two things have no connection - you could contribute to the world by choosing to have none, or by doing something useful with your life irrespective of how many children you have.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/12/2009 20:00

I'd have laughed. How could you not? Bonkers.

VeronicaMars · 23/12/2009 20:02

She has three, all grown up now. I was tempted to be honest and say 'yes we got lucky on our first ivf treatment but sadly our last two didn't work'

OP posts:
NightShoe · 23/12/2009 20:20

What a strange thing to say. Does she see her children as a contribution i.e her duty rather than wonderful people she took joy in creating?

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 20:35

I worked it out.

She has spotted your enormous genetic superiority, based on your beautiful appearance, charming and lovely nature and enormous intellect.

She is naturally surprised and concerned that you are not reproducing like billy-o, passig on all the advantages, to the betterment of the human race.

Either that or she is a total loon.

PeedOffWithNits · 23/12/2009 20:37

LOL at was it a duggar!

addictedtolatte · 23/12/2009 20:37

what a strange individual. i only have one dc and get asked all the time when am i having more. i feel like saying dont be nosey. i have been pregnant after my ds but unfortunately misscarried. people should think before they speak. some people only have one child out of choice and some not from choice.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 20:57

(my post was meant to sound funny rather than sarcastic BTW)

ABetaDad · 23/12/2009 21:45

VeronicaMars - DW is convinced that some women compete with other women by flaunting their fertility.

She calls it calls them 'competitive breeders'.

I suspect you may have just met one!

How strange. I hope you looked at her like this

LynetteScavo · 23/12/2009 21:52

What a wierd comment!

I would have said, "Well, acutally I have because my chld is rather fantastic" and then kicked myself for days afterwards.
