to believe my dd deserved to be invited to sleepover after friend's party?

DD1 (aged 13) is off to a pampering/hair/make-up party at her friend's house from 6pm to 10pm tonight - and we've been told on the invite to pick her up after etc. Not a problem, though a bit late imho.

Anyway, we mentioned to her that it would have been nice if she could have just slept over with friend afterwards instead. And dd said that four girls HAD been invited to do that, but not her. These girls were friends who had recently invited the birthday girl to their house for a sleepover so she was returning the favour, my dd explained. Which is fair enough. Except WE took the birthday girl ON HOLIDAY TO GREAT YARMOUTH for a week earlier this year!!! And dd has had no return invite from their family.

AIBU to think, actually, my dd deserved to be asked to sleepover first???

Harrumph etc.

LOVE IT.
Oh I have had a good laff over this over the last week.

TulipsAndTinsel · 23/12/2009 11:40

YANBU to be a bit irritated but as long as dd isn't upset i wouldn't get too worked up about it.

could be that your dd and theirs just don't get on that well anymore and she didn't want her there all night, not nice but no ones fault

MadameCastafiore · 23/12/2009 11:41

Maybe they just don't like your DD or she smells!

Get a GRIP!

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2009 11:42

Nah, they are thick as thieves still Tulips.
I'm not going to start WW3 with her parents over it or anything, but I do think it's a bit off.

Sazisi · 23/12/2009 11:43

Sounds like your dd is taking it on the chin, so can't see a problem

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2009 11:43

well, fair point, she does whiff a bit.

I love it when people say "get a grip" on here.

OP posts:
Oblomov · 23/12/2009 11:44

laff at smells of wee.
and before you start I've already been accused of being inconsiderate, on the other party sleepover thread, so don't bother with that ole nugget !!

pigletmania · 23/12/2009 11:45

I totally understand where you are coming from and would feel a bit peeved myself, but you are being a bit U. It was nice of your dd to be invited to the pampering in the first place. When you do someone a favour you do it without expectation and with good grace, dont take the girl in question out anymore!

If i were the parents of the girl i would have had your dd to say over considering she was the only one going home but there may be reasons why they did not ask her to stay the night (numbers, did not think of it, mabey birthday girl did not want her to stay over).

Chill dont worry its not the end of the world your daughter will get over it, dont pass your feelings onto your daughter just let it go.

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2009 11:48

Ooh sorry Oblomov, have you got one of these threads going already?

OP posts:
ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:49

Is your DD the only one not staying?

If so that is mean.

Otherwise I would imagine that maybe these 4 girls are thick as thieves and if anyone else stays they might end up feeliing even more left out IYSWIM.

nothingofthesort · 23/12/2009 11:49

LOL, why would you say it would have been nice if she could sleep over, knowing she wasn't going to be. Looks like it's just you wanting to get rid of her .

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:50

puppymonkey there is a MONSTER of a sleepover thread

We have all been most aerated about everything!

cornysxmasmuffmusic · 23/12/2009 11:51

They are a nightmare after sleepovers. Count your blessings.

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:51

here

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2009 11:53

Well, yes obviously I want to get rid of her!

I don't think she is the only one not sleeping, but not sure.

Is that other sleepover thread any good? Better than this one?

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2009 11:55

Oh, THAT one. I'd ignored it because I thought it was just about parties. if I'd known it was about sleepovers, I'd have joined in.

OP posts:
Oblomov · 23/12/2009 11:56

Seems nasty to exclude. But what can you do. Force the girl to invite her. Make the mum do it ?
but re expecting, becasue you took her on holiday, well clearly they (her family) don't see that as such a gift/treat/ lovely thing you did, as I do.
And your dd wants ot be friends with this girl, WHY EXACTLY ??

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:57

Well it went on a bit and the OP turned out to have some rather unusual views about "2 tier parties".

It has kind of been done to death on there - so you may get some rather lacklustre responses here

In the interests of contunuity i am afraid I have to adopt a firm stance tht YABU. Sorry about that!

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 11:58

Mind you oblomov never seems to tire of the topic

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2009 12:00

No need to apologise ISNT. Unreasonable is my middle name.

Oblomov, the girl is v.nice, I thought. Gone right off her now obviously, the cow.

OP posts:
Oblomov · 23/12/2009 12:00

No fraid not ISNT. Bit like ss threads
Unfortunately this one doesn't seem to have so much potential, because OP does not seem to be irrational or unhinged.
But we live in hope

pigletmania · 23/12/2009 12:04

Including two tier weddings lol and other random stuff we want to get off our chests

ImSoNotTelling · 23/12/2009 12:04

Puppy would you go for a meal on your birthday with some close friends and then go on and meet all your otehr friends in teh pub?

Sorry i know it seems unrelated but a lot hinges on your response...

CitizenPrecious · 23/12/2009 12:05

YANBU

(missed the other thread as haven't been around much so sticking my oar in on this one)
