AIBU to have had enough of this pompous harridan?

Yes she does patronise us in a truly beautifully-spoken way and she has a lovely face, I'll give her that. But if ITV decided to commission an immoral live television event of Kirstie being chased to a likely mortal end by wolves through an attractively Christmassy nordic landscape; then I would watch.

No Kirstie NO I will NOT be doing a glass blowing course in order to learn to blow my own baubles thanks you great buxom strumpet.

And no, I don't regularly spend 10 to 20 squid on an individual Xmas tree decoration you titled hussy, I don't care how many years they last, my father is not a Lord and I shall not be buying them. Just go home to Buckinghamshiire or the Cameron's house and whittle yourself a turkey centrepiece and leave me alone,

i don't get the invective, though i think the general tone of the media with there 'we ll have to economise' spiel is pretty damn annoying. They don't have to economise. They have well paid jobs. I have to economise, and will mostly do so by not making things, not decorating, not crafting and generall y by being very dull indeed.

but that wouldn't be good telly now would it?

Watch Edgar sit at home glued to the goggle box?

Who's got time for all this homemade stuff? In the last couple of weeks I have made cakes for the church fair, helped at church fair, made cakes for school fair, sent other stuff to school fair, helped at school fair, sent food into nursery, made cakes for school party, organised other food for other school party, organised two nativity costumes, attended nativity, sent DH to attend concert, ferried to various after school activities, finalised Christmas shopping, wrapped Christmas presents, sorted DH's birthday, written Christmas cards on top of the normal stuff that is part of having a family. When in the hell (and why) do people find it necessary to make life more difficult than it already is at Christas by knitting their own cards etc. I know it looks nicer, but I'm past caring tbh.

midnightexpress · 11/12/2009 18:25

Nekabu, well, everyone knows about making gift tags out of last year's cards don't they? They teach you that on blimmin Blue Peter. The cheap stuff on the prog was either common sense or stuff everyone does already and the rest was just faintly ridiculous IMO. She really did come across rather Marie Antoinette to me I'm afraid.

If KA has to economise, which I doubt, she should sell the flamin house.

jemart · 11/12/2009 18:55

I agree with Nekabu there was loads of stuff that was cheap and within the reach of most people. And cheaper versions of the posh things are also achievable.

Even the teddy bear (which at £75 a metre for the mohair had me spluttering) is a good idea in principal, anyone can download a free bear pattern and make a teddy out of scrap upholstery fabric or spend a fiver on some acrylic faux fur in a fabric shop.

Nebaku - it is not because her dad is a wealthy baron that we think she has no clue how the other half lives - Kirstie regularly has the role of a property expert on radio and tv. She reveals astounding callousness and insists that "we all" benefited from the massive house price increases.

She is the Tory housing advisor

That is why Kirstie is being mocked here. She has time to faff about with all this stuff because she has staff to deal with all the normal chores the rest of us have to deal with. She has no empathy for those whose lives were made so much harder when property prices tripled - probably because she can't even imagine what is like for normal people.

GhostofMintyCandyCane · 12/12/2009 11:01

jemart I understand what you are saying.

However, most people who have work full time to feed and house their kids would probably buy one for three quid in Tesco rather than buy thread stuffing and fur fabric from a shop which would cost so much more.

It is a nice idea but crafting often costs quite a lot really. I wouldn't mind this program at all if she did not pretend that she was somehow offering people money saving tips.

expatinscotland · 12/12/2009 16:52

'Kirstie regularly has the role of a property expert on radio and tv. She reveals astounding callousness and insists that "we all" benefited from the massive house price increases.'

Exactly!

Watched the second half of the show and went off her even more.

EdgarAleNPie · 12/12/2009 17:59

ah well, the only people tha benefitted were those who owned two or more houses. if you own one, it doesn't matter (you just live there) unless you sold at the right time to leave the UK forever....

i think the current trend for getting slebs involved in politics is daft - it's just a popularity gam, nothing to do with getting real expertise.

InMyLittleHead · 12/12/2009 18:23

YANBU.

She does my HEAD IN. Patronising, posh, not that talented, not that clever. Why is she on the telly doing all this pointless shit? Why do people like her? How is she a role model? Being over a size 12 does not a role model make. You know she would have picked on you at school.

expat "The fact that David Cameron even considered her as an advisor on housing at all demonstrates to me just how out of touch Tories are with reality, tbh."

Exactly. I fear for the future, I really do. Every time an effort is made to make him look like everyman, he reveals his posh-twat status by making appointments like this. How can she relate to housing issues of most people? As in, "there are not enough houses what do we do about it?", rather than 'How can I swing this barn conversion in Oxfordshire for under a million?' Gaaaaaaaaaah! Go away you annoying woman!

Lizzzombie · 13/12/2009 09:34

Look she's very organised isn't she. The table's laid up 2 weeks before Christmas dinner.
Her own home decoration doesn't seem to be so homespun though. And I bet she doesn't use ribbon from VV Rouleaux to tie all her baubles on a 20ft tree! Not even the Queen would do that.

lucykate · 13/12/2009 09:54

nekabu - probably because the idea of re-using old chrimbo cards is hardly anything shockingly new, been doing it myself for years!. and as for 2nd hand presents, again, not a new idea.

kirstie is just the presenter though, the format, projects etc featured will have all been decided by the production team. personally, i think the gold leafed pears will have done more damage to the reputation of the woman they had in doing it, she came across as barking at that point!
