Kirstie Allplop on Xmas crafts and Newsnight

AIBU to have had enough of this pompous harridan?

Yes she does patronise us in a truly beautifully-spoken way and she has a lovely face, I'll give her that. But if ITV decided to commission an immoral live television event of Kirstie being chased to a likely mortal end by wolves through an attractively Christmassy nordic landscape; then I would watch.

No Kirstie NO I will NOT be doing a glass blowing course in order to learn to blow my own baubles thanks you great buxom strumpet.

And no, I don't regularly spend 10 to 20 squid on an individual Xmas tree decoration you titled hussy, I don't care how many years they last, my father is not a Lord and I shall not be buying them. Just go home to Buckinghamshiire or the Cameron's house and whittle yourself a turkey centrepiece and leave me alone,

i thought the anna karenina look was ill advised, she looked more like barbara cartland. apart from that she was lovely

MintyCandyCane · 09/12/2009 12:56

I agree moonmother - I would love to know what her "low budget" was on the program last night.

Didn't see Newsnight nigelslaterfan sounds like it is a good job.

nigelslaterfan · 09/12/2009 12:57

quelle joie! Elle est on Twatter!

Also now got image in head of prince charles lobbing imperfectly boiled eggs at cowering underlings

cloudspotter · 09/12/2009 13:03

I used to hate her snooty voice and ramping of the housing market. I am horrified that she might be considered a housing advisor. I understand why people would find her upper middle class boundless confidence irritating.

Strangely I like her home made home programme. I think she genuinely likes all that stuff, it kind of comes over. And I like the ideas that of course I will not put into practice. I like watching it done in a lazy sofa-bound kind of way rather than as a real inspiration.

I am thrilled that everyone thinks she is good looking as she is as you say curvaceous (there is hope for us all). She has a reassuringly mumsy feel to me, in a slightly more girl friendly Nigella kind of way, and and perhaps a bit more realistic than most of the pointless totty we are faced with on telly.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 09/12/2009 13:05

i love Wooly though (we call her wooly in this house - something to do with a sketch show - she wasn't born, she knitted)

I sound like a loon, don't I

PuppyMonkey · 09/12/2009 13:08

I thought her tree at the end looked bloody awful as well.

I loved the way she twittered at the beginning of the show about wanting to avoid the busy High Street for her first christmas in the new house - yet the first thing she did was go to Liberty's in the middle of bleddy London for a look round.

It was all such a load of baubles.

BalloonSlayer · 09/12/2009 13:08

I didn't know that about Prince Charles?

I wonder if it's really true. If so: what a tosser.

Does he give the rejected eggs to "the poor"?

nigelslaterfan · 09/12/2009 13:11

Balloonslayer, J Paxman put it in his book on royalty saying it came from a friend of PC's but that he found it unbelievable.

here

I find it totally believable. It's just being spoilt taken to the 9th degree, like Mariah Carey wanting vanilla scented swans to paddle past her window when she's warming up to appear on daytime tv or whatever

I know someone who worked with her on this programme recently, and they were not a huge fan. Apparently she has no idea what she's doing and is really unprofessional. I think the phrases used were 'complete crap', 'flaky' and 'a pain in the arse'. Oh dear.

I used to quite like her, not so sure now I hear other people do all the hard work.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 09/12/2009 13:13

[ponders how to spell woolly/wooley/wooooooly?]

sorry, i'll get my coat....

TheGoatofChristmasPast · 09/12/2009 13:14

i am under no illusions, she doesn't even pretend to do anything really. she turns up and twitters prettily at the glassblower, curtain maker, knitter, casts on about 2 stitches or something adn then leaves it to be 'finished'. genius

BalloonSlayer · 09/12/2009 13:18

Blimey, nigelslaterfan.

I suppose that if you can't be arsed to cook for yourself, and your boiled egg has to be brought up from the kitchens and served to you a quarter of a mile away, it must be difficult to get it right.

And: Boiled eggs and whisky? WTF?

If I was invited back to the house of the heir to the throne I'd be well pissed off if that was all I got.

(I am talking about food)

paisleyleaf · 09/12/2009 13:25

So a glass blowing course, shopping for antiques to put my mincepies on and a lino printing kit is going to save me money for christmas?
It didn't help that her house was so lovely with lots of space - easy to make that kitchen look lovely.
I don't think she's the right person for it either.

MollieO · 09/12/2009 13:36

The reason that her house has lots of space is because it is a holiday cottage she rents out. I imagine there is very little personal stuff there at all.

I missed KA on Newsnight. I did see her on Question Time and had to turn over as I felt so embarrassed by her drivel comments.

A lot of her 'money saving' tips last night are actually very expensive.

emsyj · 09/12/2009 14:44

Kirstie Allsop and her house are both so beautiful I can't do anything but goggle, open-mouthed, at her Home Made shows. DH thinks my fondness for K is very strange and doesn't agree with my conclusion that she is the most beautiful woman in the whole wide world.

ImSoNotTelling · 09/12/2009 14:47

I am a bit baffled by everyone thinking she's very pretty. Most odd.

PuppyMonkey · 09/12/2009 14:56

She's not the most bautiful woman in the whole wide world. She has a funny eye, I think.

emsyj · 09/12/2009 14:57

What's not pretty?? I don't understand why anyone would think she isn't. DH doesn't think she's unattractive, far from it - he just doesn't think she's the most beautiful creature in the whole world (which I do) She's so lovely and posh and her hair's all shiny and her skin's all perfect and and and..... [swoon]

ImSoNotTelling · 09/12/2009 14:57

YY puppy you're right she does have a funny eye.

And she simpers and obviously considers herself terribly wonderful. And she is annoying.

TheCrackFox · 09/12/2009 15:01

I quite enjoyed last nights programme, however, I have no intention of putting any of it into actual practice. It is a bit like entering a parallel universe. My Christmas would look the same if I had the money or any motivation.

I bought my Christmas decorations 10 years ago and will not be buying anymore. Similarly christmas cake tastes bogging so I won't bother with that. Don't have time to learn how to blow glass but the baubles did look lovely.

Salt dough decorations are doable it just depends if I can be arsed.

SerenityNowAKABleh · 09/12/2009 15:02

Interesting ... she twitted asking about whether or not people think opt-out organ donation is a good idea - wasn't there a thread on this recently ...
Is Kirstie on MN?!

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 09/12/2009 15:03

oh I would cheerfully punch her smug little face in. Her and her sidekick are singlehandedly responsible for the property market "boom" that has left us all in the shit! Location location in the sodding fecking country - my arse!!! now she wants to destroy our lives with fecking chintz!! The woman needs putting away.

And no, she ain't pretty, she has appalling fashion sense and wears inappropriate footwear.

I mean, who, really, in their right mind would ask someone else to find them a house anyway - i remember they showed a house in my town once, they made it out to be in a really sought after location in a quite seaside town. Um, no - its on one of the most avoided roads in the town as it gets all the traffic which is divereted from the highstreet, its full of bedsits and runs next to the train line FFS!!!

ijustwanttoaskaquestion · 09/12/2009 15:05

oh you just know she is serenity - ok, so i take that back about wanting to punch her - but everything else stands
