to NOT want a SLANKET for christmas?!

DH has let it slip that my dad has bought me a SLANKET for christmas (check out lakeland catalogue....)

Now, Im not the ungrateful type - everyone who knows me will know that, but I cant help but feel its a bit of a rubbish present, especially from my dad who usually chooses so well!

Past presents from my dad have included Spa Day vouchers, DVDs and CDs I want and a digital camera, so I know he is capable.

I feel like a right bitch for being a little pissed off about it, but DH just keeps saying I will probably love it when we move to the Scottish Highlands after christmas..... but its a naff present isnt it?!

YANBU I would be seriously disappointed if I got a slanket for my Christmas especially from a close family member. If I did get one it would undoubtedly be from MIL. The first year DH and I were together MIL bought me a sugar pink dressing gown and barbie pink faux fur heart festooned blanket. It wasn't even long enough to cover your feet so definitely aimed at the younger girl market. I also don't really like pink very much.

mrmump · 30/11/2009 18:48

I have one of these on my christmas list. I have bought DH the blanket with the pockets for the telly remote. We do love to be cozy.

meltedchocolate · 30/11/2009 20:03

Ouch GentleOtter

I'm only kidding.....

Well my mum is 47 so it would be wrong of me to think that was anything but ancient...

meltedchocolate · 30/11/2009 20:04

That of course was **innocently

squirrel42 · 30/11/2009 21:35

They are awesome. I have a "Mooncosy" blanket, and a friend and my sister (both early twenties) both asked for them for Christmas so that's what they're getting too! (I got them from a woman on ebay who makes them out of spiffy snazzy patterned fabrics so sis's has sheep on!)

RockBird · 30/11/2009 21:41

Pass it to me, I'll have it. I'm going to put one on my Christmas list.

LauraIngallsWilder · 30/11/2009 21:43

DanJar - I would LOVE to receive a slanket for christmas

In fact I am

ilovepiccolina · 30/11/2009 21:45

Surely DH is winding you up?

mustrunmore · 30/11/2009 21:51

If I got one from dh I'd be very pissed off, but if I got one from my Dad I'd be ecstatic!

I'll buy yours off you for half price when he gives it you

I saw some at the toy wholesalers for school, for £6.62, but I dont think they'd be very good quality somehow. I really did think about getting one for each of us!

waswondering - if MIL is recently 'on her own' might it not be rubbing it in a bit?

Purplepillow · 30/11/2009 23:28

Well dd has saved her pocket money to buy me a christmas present and after today I think it might be one of these and because it is so bloody cold up here now I bloody well hope it is

MinkyBorage · 30/11/2009 23:38

yanbu at all! I would be soooooo pissed off!
Keep the packaging and return it, it's heinous

othermother · 30/11/2009 23:44

Well my 22 year old ds bought one for his gf for her birthday last year and she bloody loves it!
I want one myself...but then I am old. :P

fledtoscotland · 30/11/2009 23:50

yabu - you should have asked for the double sized one so you can invite a friend in

ZacharyQuack · 01/12/2009 00:05

Does your DH usually tell you what other people are planning to give you? Are you sure he's not winding you up and your Dad has really bought you something lovely and tasteful?

Thingiebob · 01/12/2009 00:08

See

I think you are going to love this if you are moving somewhere cold.

My DH has asked for one or for something similar for Xmas!

CarmenSanDiego · 01/12/2009 00:12

Oh god, they're on the tv all the time here but they're called Snuggies this side of the Atlantic.

You can get one for your best friend too.

FairyLightsForever · 01/12/2009 01:04

I'm 34 and wearing mine right now! I probably should be but I'm not, I'm nice and toasty, so I don't really care

JustAnotherManicMummy · 01/12/2009 01:13

I would love one... and I have just turned 28. But then I have a fleece blanket that lives on the sofa and I pull over me when watching TV already.

Perhaps we should do a present swap? My DSis often buys over-priced impractical gifts. I expect she'll get me something you'd swap for

dooneygirl · 01/12/2009 01:14

I'm in Snuggie land, (America) too, and I have to say I would be just as horrified as you are to get one. And this is coming from someone who was thrilled to get an electric blanket as part of my Christmas present last year.

chelseamorning · 04/12/2009 11:56

Maybe your DH is joking, to wind you up perhaps?

duchesse · 04/12/2009 12:02

I'm sorry to all you slanket lovers out there, but I think they are hideous. What's wrong with a throw on the sofa if it's cold, or an extra layer of clothing?

MollieO · 04/12/2009 12:05

How fab is that! I like the obvious statement on the Lakeland site.

To be used as a throw only ? not for walking in.

What's not to love about a blanket with sleeves!
