not just style, food, alcohol, anything
why the permanent comparisons?
we would be better off comparing outselves to asimilar type of country say,... denmark or Norway

NancyBotwin · 25/11/2009 17:12

Maybe because France is the most popular holiday destination for MNetters??

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 25/11/2009 17:12

cos it's close by? And we have been involved/at war with the froggies since the dawn of time

MintyCane · 25/11/2009 17:20

I don't think I have ever read it on a thread. Where is it ?

Bathsheba · 25/11/2009 17:24

There is one particular poster I have seen who lives in France and has no come back other than "well in France its perfect and everyone is perfect and nothing bad ever happens because they might as well rename France Perfect-Land..."

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 17:26

I wouldn't try to compare with Denmark or Norway though... they tend to be top of any kind of list... happiness, schooling, you name it

crumpet · 25/11/2009 17:31

bit uncalled for Bathsheba.

DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:32

arf
its interesting that we choose France though when ime we have mroe similarities with the N germans

OP posts:
MintyCane · 25/11/2009 17:33

I don't see why people who live in france are not allowed an opinion

crumpet · 25/11/2009 17:35

yes but France is closer

Crapweasel · 25/11/2009 17:39

I first thought this was a dig at a particular poster but now I think I see:

The French are foodie and eat three course lunches but are (perceived to be) a thin nation

The French have wine at lunchtime and start their children on wine and water early but don't (or aren't perceived to) get ragingly pissed every Friday night and spew in the gutter

French women have a natural groomed and stylish approach (or...)

Pregant women in France are positively encouraged to eat blue cheese.

With the exception of point four I suspect it's partly due the British love of self deprecation.

cocolepew · 25/11/2009 17:39

France isn't closer for me, that'll be the Isle Of Man.

stickylittlefingers · 25/11/2009 17:40

you'd never get this kind of thread in France.

DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:40

but the relevance on most threads is irrelevant
our politcal culture, snese of society and even weather make us so different that on most threads it is totally pointless to compare

OP posts:
DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:40

sticky
pmsl

OP posts:
DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:41

or in IREland
why dont we look at them?

OP posts:
sassy · 25/11/2009 17:41

vous n'êtes pas déraisonnable

Crapweasel · 25/11/2009 17:41

But Dan, isn't that difference why we compare?

DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:42

so why not GErmany then?
or Italy

OP posts:
ComeOveneer · 25/11/2009 17:42

Erm weather in the majority of France until you get further South i s remarkably similar to England really.

I too thought this was a pop at a particular poster but as it is not, I have to say that I have rarely seen such posts!

cocolepew · 25/11/2009 17:43

No don't look to Ireland that wouldn't work.

We're vastly superior.

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 25/11/2009 17:44

yes lets compare our drinking problems with ireland - erm... they are pretty much teh same.

we adore the french for their delightful leetle glasses of wine and pretty way of saying 'you english are peessed up wankers'

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 25/11/2009 17:44

don't listen to coco she likes susan boyle and looks like a nolan sister

DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:45

there are three today since I came back from work
on booze( totally diffo culture to food and wine - youd be better off looking at the Finns for a similar one)
on style( ad nauseum)

adn another one i cant remeber

OP posts:
DanDruff · 25/11/2009 17:45

but its not comparing like with like
oytu need to get a country with similar dark long wet nights/ slightly trad boozy culture and compare us with them

OP posts:
cocolepew · 25/11/2009 17:46

I told you not to tell, you git.
