You must iron some things, like shirts and uniforms?

go on admit it

OP posts:
MrsMerryHenry · 13/11/2009 21:48

Have you ironed your gym gear for tomorrow, CrazyCat?

ByTheSea · 13/11/2009 21:49

MrsMerryHenry Love it!

littleblu · 13/11/2009 21:52

No I never iron anything, I buy things that don't need to be ironed and who cares if the bed is bit crumpled?

Thing is once you start you have to keep it up.... then you start ironing pants and towels....

VinegarTits · 13/11/2009 21:53

crazycatlazy thankyou for being one of the few sane people who irons like me, i dont feel alone anymore

OP posts:
Crazycatlady · 13/11/2009 21:57

Ha ha mrsmerry I have! Although I stopped short of ironing my base layer...

Littleblu you might be right, once you start ironing you realise how good everything looks and before you know it you're tempted to iron a tea towel (I have only done this once and realised it was pretty daft).

VT, brilliant thread, ironers unite

MrsMerryHenry · 13/11/2009 21:59

Cat you are a nutter. Mind you don't get your lycra all crumpled now!

Crazycatlady · 13/11/2009 22:01

And of course the lycra will be absolutely obliterated by mud after 5 minutes...!

Really must shuffle off to bed now, night all xx

eatsshootsleaves · 13/11/2009 22:07

This is an extremely judgmental thread and although I haven't read every single post (oh no! How lazy am I?), why do you care anyway? I can only conclude that this is a wind up.

First of all, you insist that we must look scruffy if we don't iron; we must be uncaring towards the environment if we use a tumble dryer to make our clothes drier and if we don't do one but do the other then we are lazy. That to me sounds as if you are deliberately picking holes at people who do not iron. Can we jump on you for your lack of proofreading for your punctuation, spelling and grammar errors even though you work in IT because it is lazy if you don't? No, because most people can understand your posts and don't really care.

Just for the record, I do iron and couldn't give two hoots whether anybody else does or not.

Must get some sleep! PARP!

wastingaway · 13/11/2009 22:08

I don't iron. I can't remember the last time I ironed.
DH does his shirts, t-shirts and trousers, though not jeans, and will do a top for me if we're going out.
I don't wear shirts, or anything that absolutely must be ironed regularly, but generally look scruffy regardless.

I have now read this thread and agree with you Vinny. I don't know that I'll actually start ironing though.

Boobz · 13/11/2009 22:11

Crazy - you are crazy. I want to see this steam iron thingy. Do you change you sheets every day like a hotel as well?? I would love it if someone did that in our house.

Crazy knows I am of the crumpled variety. But I work from home and have lost the desire to look good all the time so now I only iron a shirt if I am going out of an occasion.

Crazy, do you iron the babe's growbags? I bet you do. Does the G-man do any ironing??

It is quite possible to work, have a shedload of kids, a regular sex life and do the ironing.

Wash, shake, hang/tumble, sort, iron or just fold. Bob's your uncle. Linen sheets just beg to be ironed and then slid into, ditto cotton shirts. Ironed tea towels take seconds and pile effortlessly. One episode of 24 and all is done.

Why the hell not?

RoysRolls · 13/11/2009 22:32

Because it's boring, no one else really cares but if ironing things makes you happy and life better, go for it.
I do iron some of the kids things IF we are going to a family do/party/meeting a particularly neat-freak family...I know I shouldn't care but I guess some people still think an ironed kid is a more loved/cared for one than a creased kid.

TheFoosa · 13/11/2009 22:39

I iron EVERYTHING except underwear & towels

Why would anyone iron anything?

We all look presentable. We have a tumble drier. We have two professional jobs. We don't wear linen. Why would anyone spend time, er, ironing? What's the pride (?) in that?

Have I missed the point?

Fibilou · 14/11/2009 00:18

What do you do in your clothes MrsMerryHenry to make them rumpled in 5 minutes ? Mine don't rumple on contact, my clothes remain pressed looking all day. All I can imagine is that you put them on then roll on the floor if they get creased so quickly

Fibilou · 14/11/2009 00:19

Oh and to everyone that says "I have a professional job and nobody notices if I don't iron my clothes" do you think anyone is likely to say "you look a mess" to your face ?

TigerLightsitandscarpers · 14/11/2009 00:23

Well, no, hell, I guess they just value their paychecks too much.

If you wear jersey, soft cotton etc, it doesn't make any difference. I don't wear crisp white cotton shirts because (a) I loathe them (b) they don't suit me and (c) I am not going to waste my life ironing them or paying someone else to. But nice smart dresses which tumble or drip dry without needing ironing and can go anywhere? Er, well, yes.

Fibilou · 14/11/2009 00:27

I really just don't get this "they're only going to get creased again" argument. This argument also applies to cleaning the loo - why bother when someone is only going to poo/wee in it again ? Or wash up - they'll only get dirty again next mealtime.
In fact why bother with any housework at all as you only have to do it again.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/11/2009 00:28

and will be sleeping in an un ironed bed, though freshly washed and put on this evening

TigerLightsitandscarpers · 14/11/2009 00:30

well, Fibilou - you have it there. Same with your hair, if you leave it long enough w/o washing, it self cleans. Perfectamondo.

MissTFied · 14/11/2009 00:37

At least un-ironed clothes are clean, and that is the most important thing, rather than how they look to strangers.

ShinyAndNew · 14/11/2009 00:40

I iron what needs ironing. I use a tumble dryer, because my house is too small to have drying hanging everywhere. Besides which the cat would only sleep on it/dd2 would blow her nose on it and it would need washing again. Which is bad for the environment also.

I always buy non iron uniform. T'is because I am lazy and clever you see

I have far better things to do with my time than stand ironing. Oh and my bed sheets fit into my dryer just fine.

TigerLightsitandscarpers · 14/11/2009 00:46

Ironed clothes aren't always clean. I have sent the washing to the ironing service (once). It was crisp but smelly. Esp the pants
