I was browsing through some old threads earlier, and the general standard of debate has dropped. People here used to be able to follow a thread and give a pertinent response, backed up with careful research. Lately the response is likely to be completely unrelated to the original point, and passive-aggressive to boot.

Ah, DP, my little flower....have been wondering where you and your bag of interesting thoughts had got too....

I have only been here for six months, and feel I have been able to engage in some good debate, but certainly don't have much truck with huge swathes of MN who seem to have been bussed in from Little Twatting circa 1950.

have also seen an example of old style debating from an old MNetter today, who made me want to stick hot needles in my eyes and scream ""troll of back to Moldie Mountain and hang out with the other Alpha witches"

because if that is was is considered good debate then I'm personally glad it no longer dominates. Smug, self-satisfied drum banging of the most small minded order.

They are nice aren't they, DP? I have a big book full of them...but I daresay my debating standards are pretty low as I did not go to oxford or cambridge, but shock, horror, actually went to a Poly (one that got slagged off by said moldie today) and of course my life has been a total disaster as a result...
