to think that the average debating ability of Mumsnetters has dropped considerably over the past year?

I was browsing through some old threads earlier, and the general standard of debate has dropped. People here used to be able to follow a thread and give a pertinent response, backed up with careful research. Lately the response is likely to be completely unrelated to the original point, and passive-aggressive to boot.

OP posts:

have never changed name.my name is unoriginal enough with out changing it

AitchTwoToTangOh · 08/11/2009 22:56

oh YES, penth. gotcha.

ZephirineDrouhin · 08/11/2009 22:57

People like a poster with a strong identity, however abrasive. Penth is right, scottishmummy, you are too modest. You should be proud.

MillyR · 08/11/2009 22:57

I agree with SM about it just being a thread not a set of posters. I can hardly remember any posters and find it difficult to associate a name with a set of views or personality traits. I almost always forget who it wass who said what.

ZephirineDrouhin · 08/11/2009 22:58

Give it time, Milly

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/11/2009 22:59

I am just glad that there is a lot less 'oh fgs this has been done to death' than there was in the olden times.

I cannot imagine MN without AIBU. Like a good row.

Also think it is better to have succint 'oh piss off' retorts as opposed to reams and reams of copied and pasted comments from up the thread, or people going on about empirical research. Some people argue like they are still constructing a dissertation for A level Law.

What was my point again? God knows, really, just don't think MN is any better or worse than it was when I joined, actually it is a bit better because people actually answer me now and I get less of a feeling of tumbleweed rolling across my posts.

As you were.

scottishmummy · 08/11/2009 23:00

i am proud of my personal achievements.i am not proud of mn.it is just tapping on pc.no longevity, not influential. i dont have a tv so like pc

AitchTwoToTangOh · 08/11/2009 23:00

i certainly don't remember who said what each time, but i do remember when i go to post something and someone's already said it better than i could have. actually, you've done that a few times milly (as i beliieve i may have mentioned) so i have noticed you and look out for your name.

daftpunk · 08/11/2009 23:02

SM....you are very popular on here...

do you mind that..?

ZephirineDrouhin · 08/11/2009 23:02

Good post, getorf...

nevergoogledragonbutter · 08/11/2009 23:03

oh so true getorf, i HATE the threads full of copied and pasted comments. The steiner threads are an extreme example of this, but it happens elsewhere too.

i also agree it's unfair to say 'boring, this has been done so many times' because it's good for newbies to get the opportunity to air their views.

ZephirineDrouhin · 08/11/2009 23:03

It means nothing to her, dp, nothing

Copying stuff from up the thread is a pet hate. I read a lot of technical talk threads on other sites, and most people can't post anything unless they have copied 6 paragraphs in first. Then they add 2 lines. Twats.

daftpunk · 08/11/2009 23:05

getorfmoiland.....i like your posts...

nighbynight · 08/11/2009 23:05

yes!domt understand the C&P mania.copy someone else posts with a you said quip

why

GetOrfMoiLand · 08/11/2009 23:10

See..SEE - when I first joined nobody answered me for years .

I do copy some stuff from other people's posts, but only stuff which has made me laugh. Those people who do the Miss Marple act and say' ooh look you posted this at 17.56 and then you contradicted yourself'. I mean what are they trying to prove the silly cows?

MrsSeanBean · 08/11/2009 23:10

As I feel unable to comment I will make my maiden use of this strange new mumsnet icon .
Hello to some familiar names on this thread btw. I haven't been online for ages as I had debating fatigue.
