To have told the women their rudeness lost them a sale?

So I was just in town, and went in to a shop where they had a gorgeous dress in the window. I had phoned about it last week so knew it was £54.
I went in to get it, and saw some boots too priced at £99.99

Now I never buy myself anything new, but have just been paid and also my last maintenance payment of £500 has just come. (4 months money and I have to get my ex investigated now as he has fiddled his taxes).

The three assistants were all serving one man, who apparently was buying a lot. Fair enough they want his sale, but were so dismissive, not even apologising for the wait.
Surely one man didn't need all three women?

Anyway, after 10 minutes of waiting around, I went up, told them they has just lost a possible sale of over £150, and left.

So am I?

And I know I shouldn't have to justify myself, but the figure I quoted was £500*, I was trying to spend just over £150 on myself.

I was granted maintenance of £120 a month last December. I have had ten months worth in two instalments, and now my ex has fiddled his taxes so the new figure is £15 a month.

DD is 8 by the way so yes, I have paid for everything (and if you're being pedantic so has the taxpayer and kind MNetters on one occasion) until now.

  • approximate figures, as I am going through the Australian CSA and am paid in dollars, so what I get is dependant on the exchange rate.

Allnew, feel free to look up my posts, I have posted many times about maintenance.

I spent money on 4 types of cheese for myself last weekend at the Good Food Show. Double whammy

Mmmm nice boots.

TheCrackFox · 07/11/2009 16:56

Any chance you can get the nice dress and boots somewhere else? Seems a shame to miss out because of one crappy shop.

KristinaM · 07/11/2009 17:03

"erm - do you mean you're spending part of the maintenace payment on clothes for yourself? "

i agree, i think we should all phone social services to express our concern

or perhaps the head teacher of the children's school

this is what happens when women get maintenance, we should bring back the workhouse, that'll teach them

i hope you are shamed of yourself mugglewump

muggglewump · 07/11/2009 17:05

The boots, yes. They don't have my size in black on the Moshulu site, but I'm going to see if there's a stockist in Glasgow.
I can't find the dress though.
It's a French name I have never heard of (Lola Espelita), and I can't get the site to work, so no idea where I might find another stockist.

I'm not into designer stuff at all btw, so not trying to name drop, I just happenned to love both the dress and boots.

I would contact the manager - you might get a huge apology and a voucher or money off the items, plus the manager might make the staff improve their treatment of people.

If none of this does happen and you really want the dress, get someone else to go into the shop and get it for you. Then you have made your point to the staff and still get the dress.

Although obviously it would be more ethical if you spent the money on your children and dressed in a sack with a sign on a bit of a rope around your neck saying 'I don't live with the father of my children.'

GinSlinger · 07/11/2009 17:27

I can't believe you spend money feeding and clothing yourself, woman. What are you thinking of?

But apart from that I think you should write a very stern letter to the manager and make it sound like you mean business. The more we put up with this crap then the more we'll get it.

KnickKnack · 07/11/2009 17:28

Here's a link to Lola Espelta, there's an English flag to take you to the english option.
Which dress is it?

Fabster · 07/11/2009 17:32

YANBU.

I have walked out of many a shop as the staff were crap.

What bugs me is when one staff member can't do something, has to get someone else to help and then they both serve the one person while the queue gets bigger. I realise they have to learn but not when it is busy.

I once walked out of one shop, dumping my purchases on the counter, because the staff were using words I did not want my under 5's to hear.

InterruptingKid · 07/11/2009 17:35

ooht hat site is like a bad 80s thrownabck

muggglewump · 07/11/2009 17:49

Thanks Knickknack.
The site page won't fit on my screen though, so I can't seem to click the right thing to find the dress.

I'm aware it will sound minging when I describe it, but it's blue and like a cable knit tank top dress.
Like a jumper dress but with no sleeves. I really love it.
They had it in the window with a black shirt under.

diddl · 07/11/2009 17:50

I liked the pink boots

KnickKnack · 07/11/2009 18:05

you don't need to click, just hover over the very right or very left of the "movable section with the dresses"
if that makes sense!

muggglewump · 07/11/2009 18:14

I can't get to that bit either.
I've managed to get winter 2009, but the dress isn't there and all I have is two clickies saying Natural walk, or dandy and the dress isn't on there.
Neither is the gorgeous cardigan coat thing I saw either.

OP posts:
cornsilkwearscorsets · 07/11/2009 18:20

Those boots are gorgeous.

BitOfFun · 07/11/2009 18:25

Aha, what a horrid site to navigate! I think I can see the dress under the City School section.

muggglewump · 07/11/2009 18:33

I know Cornsilk, I know!
And the rude women wouldn't let me buy them.

Perhaps Allnew is an assistant there and could see I was trying to spend maintenance money on myself?

OP posts:
muggglewump · 07/11/2009 18:35

Gaaah, I don't have a City School bit.
Can you link me?

OP posts:
ilove · 07/11/2009 18:38

www.lola-espeleta.com/admin/upload/products/30_2_full.jpg this one?

BitOfFun · 07/11/2009 18:39

I dont think so. It will just go to the front page. My screen is too small too, but I just hovered the mouse near the roight of the screen, then clicked on City School. But don't stress, you can't order from that site by the look of it, just admire the clothes
