to think that the 'art director' of this well known chain of hairdressers is a twunt?

we are very low on funds at the moment - job finished next week so no money for luxuries at the moment. So when I saw a notice in the window of this hairdressers saying guinea pigs wanted for training stylists to practice cuts/colours/highlights on I thought I'd go in and volunteer. Woman on reception says 'ooh yes you have long hair you would be perfect, are you willing to be adventurous?" I reply that yes I would and prior to small people making an appearance I was quite with it as it were . She trots of to get the self appointed fart director who comes down stairs looks me up and down and says am I aware that this salon is at the cutting edge of fashion and styling and maybe I should try elsewhere Am I unreasonable to feel a bit embarrassed and humilitated and wanting to shove a pair of 'cutting edge' scissors sideways??

What is worse is that this chain have cut and coloured my hair for nearly 12 years now, they've just lost my custom

I've had my hair cut at T&G's twice now, and although I really liked the way they did it I just can't afford to pay their prices any more sorry for the thread hijack but does anyone know of a good hairdresser in the East London area?.
And btw rr YANBU. What a cock or as someone else on here put it "twuntchops"

Restrainedrabbit · 06/11/2009 15:25

Christ on a bike I really don't want a free haircut, can I eat glass instead

Standard reply - didn't really put much thought into that, did they?

haveemailedtoniandguy · 06/11/2009 16:20

Yes - that's a bit crap isn't it, no more than you'd expect though, having read people's experiences on here!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/11/2009 16:48

I went in Toni&Guy once for a trim, as she was cutting it we were talking about fringes, and I said I'd always fancied one of those long diagonal fringes which were in fashion at the time.

She said "oh, I can do that now if you like, no problem!" she parted my hair, and nibbled off a bit of hair diagonally. I had specifically asked that she cut it long enough that I didn't have hair in my eye, but as soon as she cut it it sprang back - yep, right level with my eye. (I had to pin it back for weeks!)

And then she had the cheek to ask £38 for that. I was horrified, as it really was just a trim and few snips at fringe level (wasn't even a full fringe, took her about 30 seconds) I couldn't have been in the salon longer than about 10 minutes tops! She said because I'd had the fringe put in it was then counted as a restyle which was £38. I wouldn't have minded paying a couple of quid extra on top of the trim, but that felt like a real con! Needless to say I've never been back.

Stigaloid · 06/11/2009 16:52

Outraged on your behalf! How rude! Hope you are okay (((hugs)))

KimiTheThreadSlayer · 06/11/2009 16:53

I spent ages growing my hair and went for a trim only to have the stupid woman hack 6 inches off my hair.....

lisianthus · 06/11/2009 17:28

"We cannot however, control all reviews which are posted on the net"

I'm interested that rather than thinking in terms of "Restrainedrabbit was treated badly in one of our shops and a lot of people on MN agree with her that she is owed an apology", they totlly miss the point and their reaction is a defensive one about "controlling" reviews on the net.

FWIW, I have only been to T&G once, and they gave me a rotten cut too. I should have expected it, given the pictures of cuts they have around their salons - after all, would anyone actually WANT to look like that? Aveda and Daniel Hersheson salons are miles better.

They could have easily turned this around. If they cared and if their PR could do his/her job. This is your core market. Women. Many obviously spending money on their hair, regularly. Many potential customers.

  1. Immediately apologise to customer in personal manner.
  2. Offer recompense to customer if at all possible - free C & BW at another T&G salon
  3. Donate to the Christmas appeal.

Then we would perhaps have the warm squidgy feeling that came over us when St Johnnie of Hotpotch did his thing!

starkadder · 06/11/2009 18:05

Another vote for T&G being overpriced, rude and crap. I've had my hair cut there twice. Both times they gave me a stupid style which looked terrible once I'd washed it myself and the second time the person cutting my hair kept wandering off to talk to someone else. It was a horrible experience. They're TERRIBLE.

manicmummy I LOVE your polite "oh do fuck off"

it's just lovely

I want someone to be unreasonably annoying to me now

Doodleydoo · 06/11/2009 18:41

I think this thread is hilarious, I find going to the hairdresser akin to going to the dentist so will NEVER be going there as the damage is done!

What I find extraordinary is that T and G obviously have no concept of PR, no event response to a complaint = shocking pr and they had obviously had a quick look on here to clarify a few points! but then you get a recent thread where Boden gave away a coat and £200 worth of vouchers. We know who has the better PR machine don't we!

It just proves that Mumsnet could take over the world and win!

Restrainedrabbit · 06/11/2009 19:54

I am intrigued to see what they will come back with on Monday, some wet apology and party line probably They have indeed missed a trick here, I wonder how many MNetters use T&G regularly or spend a lot on their hair? As Red pointed out MN is highly influential these days

As an aside I went to the tip (!) today and one of the workmen there had the title of Recyling Waste Manager.

My mate used to work there and left because it was so bitchy. I stopped going there when she told me the juniors would shampoo and mould the clients hair into teletubby symbols. Also pull rude faces in the mirror behind the clients back when they were reading a magazine.

One particular client had a personalised colour chart which a stylist had written bitchy comments on. The client asked to see it and a junior had to cover up the comments with hair dye.

I went in there to be a guinea pig for a junior and I was in there for 3 hours - it was a trim!!! The senior stylist was so rude to the junior that she was too terrified to cut my hair.

haveemailedtoniandguy · 06/11/2009 20:46

Totally agree with whoever posted about Boden - it's not rocket science, is it!

Wait till the Daily Mail or the Times pick up on THIS thread - don't T&G realise this is first stop for the word on the street??!

thederkinsdame · 06/11/2009 21:17

I last went to a T & G about 4 years ago, and I was really disappointed by the lack of customer service, the surly staff, the mediocre haircut and the fact that the hairwash girl poured water down my back and I had to beg for a towel to dry myself off.

T & G, if you are reading this 'uncontrollable' thread of negative comments, here's what most people want at a salon:

To feel pampered and special and come out feeling like a million dollars and that you would have the cut again and it was worth paying an arm and a leg for. Otherwise we may as well all use a £6 barbershop or invest in hairclippers.

zebramummy · 06/11/2009 21:23

they are bloody awful - when i was a young student and also working as a p/t professional model i went there for a bog-standard student cut with my friends - T&G had the audacity to photograph me without my permission and then use my picture on the front page of their website - i know i should have been flattered but i was fuming as i could have really done with a couple of hundred quid at the time and felt that it was really sneaky and greedy. i would not go there now as i dont have ten hours to waste - well, three hours i suppose, but still...

zebramummy · 06/11/2009 21:28

i hate they fact that in c London at least, they are all rake thin with the lowest cut black tops and trousers you will ever see anywhere with shockingly vibrant hairstyles (trying to outdo each other) and suspiciously rubbing their noses every few seconds (possibly not in reaction to their chemical products). i would never go there post-ds - they would intimidate the hell out of me

thederkinsdame · 06/11/2009 21:39

zebreamummy - if you didn't signa model release form, you could still ask them for some cash... ;-) Seriously, without it, they shouldn't have used your pic.
