to think that the 'art director' of this well known chain of hairdressers is a twunt?

we are very low on funds at the moment - job finished next week so no money for luxuries at the moment. So when I saw a notice in the window of this hairdressers saying guinea pigs wanted for training stylists to practice cuts/colours/highlights on I thought I'd go in and volunteer. Woman on reception says 'ooh yes you have long hair you would be perfect, are you willing to be adventurous?" I reply that yes I would and prior to small people making an appearance I was quite with it as it were . She trots of to get the self appointed fart director who comes down stairs looks me up and down and says am I aware that this salon is at the cutting edge of fashion and styling and maybe I should try elsewhere Am I unreasonable to feel a bit embarrassed and humilitated and wanting to shove a pair of 'cutting edge' scissors sideways??

What is worse is that this chain have cut and coloured my hair for nearly 12 years now, they've just lost my custom

T&G are really shite and I don't know anybody who goes back for a second visit.

cathcat · 05/11/2009 23:56

Actually we had one on our High Street but I noticed a few weeks ago it was shut. Looks like I know why now!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 06/11/2009 06:51

Yep, me too - went to T&G and got the worst haircut ever. Stylist was very open about how badly they treat their staff. And they were all so Up Themselves.

WhatDidISayRoy · 06/11/2009 07:18

T & G gave me my worst ever cut and colour for £75 about 8 years ago and i had to go straight from there to buy a colour i could put on myself at home. £3 did the job that their 75 didn't

June2009 · 06/11/2009 08:04

I went to T&G about 5 years ago and got my hair trimmed as I had split ends.
I went back the next week to have a wash and blow dry before a work do and the hairdresser said to me: "You really need a cut, you have lots of split ends".
I said "are you joking, I had it cut here a week ago!!".
I told her who cut my hair and she left me for 5 minutes, I assumed she was going to talk to the hairdresser in question or the manager or something but she just got back and got on with blow drying my hair (pulling my hair quite hard, like angrily or something) and did not say anything else to me at all.
At this point I expect that either:

  • She was lying and trying to get me to ask her to cut my hair so she would get more money out of me
  • she was right and the the other hairdresser had done a bad job in which case I should have had it done for free there and then.

I was too shy and angry to bring it up to the manager though and just paid and left.
I don't let that kind of thing happen to me anymore btw, it's a new year resolution every year, "don't take any shit", works wonders.

If I were you I would write to them and let them know how you feel. I wish I had done this then. (oh and of course I never went back.)

bamboobutton · 06/11/2009 08:12

T&G are utter shite. they gave me a Cadfael fringe!

llaregguy · 06/11/2009 08:20

I went to T&G once. They gave me the most ridiculous curly style ever when I told them not to blow-dry my hair straight. They did that stupid big, crinkly ringlety thing. Honestly, I looked like Shirley Temple on acid. Never been back.

They are getting some good PR here, no?

warthog · 06/11/2009 08:28

i was a t&g regular for years. i went to an art director who was f'ing amazing. worth every penny. i don't know how he did it but my hair looked gorgeous.

they treated him like shite. eventually he left and when i went back to his replacement, the quality was shockingly bad. how they have the cheek to charge those prices for inexperienced waste-of-timers i have no idea.

i have never gone back.

ninedragons · 06/11/2009 08:39

Toni & Guy are Pizza Express for the bonce.

porcamiseria · 06/11/2009 08:52

DEFINATELY send a formal well worded and concise letter of complaint, in these credit crunch times the MD should be aware . I bet you that (a) he will get a bollocking and (b) you will get some freebies

dont rest until this twat is names and shamed!

LouIsAWeetbixKid · 06/11/2009 08:56

T&G are horrendous! They cut my wavy bobbed hair into something that Martina Navratilova would be ashamed of in the 80's. I have never darkened their doorstep again.

saintmaybe · 06/11/2009 09:05

send them a link to this!

Restrainedrabbit · 06/11/2009 11:07

I am currently writing a snotty email, will let you know what they say

I went to T&G when ds was six weeks old. I think I had the usual new mum style crisis thing going on (and was only 22) and they totally ruined my hair. Called my lovely long hair 'boring and mumsy' (that made me feel great), said they would re-style me and sheered it all off into a trendy pixie thing which looked shite and coloured it purple and charged me over a hundred quid. I cried for weeks. Horrendous, never again.

Marioandluigi · 06/11/2009 11:36

I have been to T&G once and I would never go again. I had only gone because I had a money off voucher that I cut out of a magazine. When I handed it over the receptionist looked like I was offering her a boiled turd, and they obviosly had me down as a penny pinching tramp. I said that I need something that is quite low maintenance as I never have time to do anuthing with it. The 'Stylist' gave me one of those awful short fringes that were all the rage about 5 years ago, but looked bloody awful on my 5-finger forehead. I would never go back!

Marioandluigi · 06/11/2009 11:37

I do however love the T&G styling products

catsmother · 06/11/2009 11:38

Years ago I "treated" myself to a cut and colour at T & G.

It was a shambles from start to finish. After the colour was put on there was a huge tidemark all round my hairline and ears. The stylist walked off and after a couple of minutes it was clear she wasn't coming back - with some cotton wool and lotion to clean my skin as any decent stylist would have done. I asked the neighbouring stylist for some cotton wool and she yelled for the original one who'd gone out the book and shouted back "whaaat, I'm having a coffee". When being told I needed some cotton wool she came stomping back out, like I was being unreasonable, and put it on the counter without a single word - let alone an effing apology.

I should have noticed the warning bells when I arrived .... the so-called receptionist didn't even say hello it was "yes?", and after I'd said who I was and what time my appointment was, left me standing there for a good 5 or 10 mins, without any word as to how long I'd have to wait and then when the stylist eventually came out she didn't say hello either but just "come this way" .... no smile, nothing. Their whole attitude was like I was an irritant and I should have gone home then. I was paying their wages FFS, rude bitches. Maybe only the truly avant garde are actually welcomed ??

At least they didn't mess my hair up ..... but it was nothing special whatsoever and definitely not worth the price, nor the total lack of customer service.

BunnyLebowski · 06/11/2009 11:45

marioandluigi at 'offering her a boiled turd'!

T&G are rubbish.

I mean REALLY??

Abubu · 06/11/2009 12:28

I have never been there (if it is T&G we are talking about) and never would.

It looks way overpriced to me. They charged my friend an extra fee because apparently they did a "restyle" not just a cut.

Um, they cut about 5 inches off her hair instead of giving her a trim. Apart from that it was exactly the same. In what way is that a restyle warranting an extra fee?

deeplyworried · 06/11/2009 12:37

Which branch was it RR?

That's a vile way to treat anyone. The person should be disciplined, and the company made aware of the obnoxious treatment their staff are doling out to people.

The company should have the opportunity to comment on this and take action against the individual.

Aside from anything else - what dreadful PR for them. How many of us will never go there having read this? I for one will be spreading the word that I won't be going there again.

haveemailedtoniandguy · 06/11/2009 14:02

I agree!!

RR, let us know how you get on - I have sent them a link to the thread and suggested they address the matter and ought at the VERY LEAST, offer you a free haircut (if you would deign to set foot in there again).

[email protected]

..if anyone else wishes to request they address the matter.

saintlydamemrsturnip · 06/11/2009 14:05

WTF is an 'art director' in a hairdresser's?

Definitely send a letter to head office/store manager (is there such a thing or do they have a poncey name too?) and tell them you will not be going back after 12 years of custom.

scaryteacher · 06/11/2009 14:09

Friend of mine goes to the one in Brussels, I go to a local Belgian salon. She said she had just paid 160 euros for a colour and CWBD; I pay 60 euros for mine. I think she's mad.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/11/2009 14:13

worst haircut i ever had in my life was T&G. they are rude as well.

fuck em

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 06/11/2009 14:16

(Can't really comment as my BIL is the salon owner of one of the branches!!!!)
