Or has anyone got thiers up already?

Coming back from school today i happened to notice someone near me has thier tree up, i could see it through the window.

It seems to be getting earlier and earlier each year at this house.

If any of you have started with christmas decorations by now, I would be interested to know what reason you have for doing so [nosy emoticon]

As i myself would be absolutely sick of the thing by christmas day never mind into new year. Beginning of December is early enough for me if i can be bothered, But do aim to have it up by the 25th

The week before Christmas, putting it up to early spoils it all. I am always astounded when people then clear it all away-just as I am starting!

whomovedmychocolatecookie · 05/11/2009 19:26

Amateurs

Sunday 6th December is the first Sunday in December and when mine will be going up.

disneystar1 · 05/11/2009 20:15

were going to disneyland and come home christmas eve so its going to be 2nd week of december here....and presents and food sorted earlier....sigh, busy busy me

Mamamoppel · 05/11/2009 20:22

When I was young we used to put up and decorate the tree on Christmas Eve...
Last year I put one up the first weekend of December because we were going away for Christmas itself and I wanted the house to be nice for a little bit before we went away.
Buying a real tree close to Christmas itself is almost impossible though because they are all really old. Two years ago I was really conned and the tree shed most of its needles on the way home in the car. Last year when I bought it early it was totally fresh and quite lovely. Feel like I am now bullied into getting a tree early again but surely not in November!
BTW, HATE seeing Christmas stuff in the shops at the end of August...

IdrisTheDragon · 05/11/2009 20:26

Ours will go up 2nd weekend in december I think.

I am working all of the first weekend so it can't go up then.

Julesnobrain · 05/11/2009 20:40

Dec 1st or nearest weekend. Not my choice but DC's. DS is already negotiating with his sister which baubles he is allowed for his own little tree in his bedroom

TeaOneSugar · 05/11/2009 21:09

Ours never goes up until after dd's birthday on the 16th Dec.

One year pre dd ours came down before Christmas day, the dogs knocked it over twice and I put it back up and then DH knocked it over, so I packed it away, bah humbug.

alysonpeaches · 05/11/2009 21:11

I leave it as long as possible as it gets on my nerves. None of the kids will leave it alone.

Lapsedrunner · 05/11/2009 21:18

Weekend before Christmas here.

Meglet · 05/11/2009 21:33

Mine usually go up the day before xmas eve. The children will still trash the tree, but it keeps the hassle to a minimum.

Drayford · 05/11/2009 21:44

My DD's birthday is 21st December - so since she was born we've put a tree up on 22nd December to separate Christmas from her Birthday.

LyraSilvertongue · 05/11/2009 21:58

When I was little one family in our street used to put their tree up on December 1 and they were considered ridiculously early.
Shame it's getting earlier and earlier every year.
Ours will go up around mid-December at the earliest.

poorbuthappy · 05/11/2009 22:04

Last year our decs went up on the 5th december as it was the day I came home from hospital after having the twins 6 weeks early and had to leave them there... ...so we put them up for dd1 who hadn't really seen her mum for the previous 2 weeks as I had been in and out of hospital...

BUT this year it will be the 11/12 dec which is the weekend after the DTs birthday parties (yes 2 parties cos our house isn't big enough for friends and family so splitting it over sat/sun)...
Please feel sorry for DH, DTs were born day before his birthday so you can imagine his birthday last year..."happy birthday love, your presents are at the top of the wardrobe...didn't have time to wrap them sorry"...note to self...make more of an effort this year

LyraSilvertongue · 05/11/2009 22:04

Marjean, September? Really? That's crazy. How can Christmas be special when it's got a four-month build-up?

Goober · 05/11/2009 22:07

Have had mine up since September.

LyraSilvertongue · 05/11/2009 22:09

Goober, seriously?

Goober · 05/11/2009 22:22

NO!!!!!

15th December.

Our tree will go up first weekend in December. It's our first Christmas with DS and I'm so bloody excited, it's a miracle it's not up already

randomimposter · 06/11/2009 12:18

I think decs etc go up MUCH MUCH too early. And that's from someone who was a retailer for many years.

I am (very much) the baby of 4, with siblings 18, 15 and 10 years older.

Growing up, my mum used to say every Christmas, "I'm not doing it this year, we don't need decorations and all that", and I'd go to bed on Christmas Eve thinking "oh well, that's a bit sad".

And I'd wake up on Christmas morning, and the house was a Christmas beauty!!! Tree and decs and everything! And then I got a present each day for the 12 days of Christmas... it made it all last longer.

Then of course one year, she didn't transform the house over night... that was when I became a grown-up....

This year is DS1's 2nd Christmas, and I can't wait! But I won't start transforming the house until mid Dec...

LetsEscape · 06/11/2009 14:32

Ours goes up the afternoon the children break up for the holidays..which works really well and then when ever we hear the 'I'm bored' they are sent off to make a decoration. It comes down by midnight on Jan 6th -It's meant to be bad luck for the tree to stay up after midnight (or was that my mother's invention?)

Sweetney · 06/11/2009 14:48

Ours will be going up on Dec 1st, I have been watching a house I go past on the bus, and they put their tree up in november of LAST year and its not yet been taken down! I really couldnt begin to understand the sheer dedication to being bone idle they must have!

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 06/11/2009 14:51

Erm.... the second weekend in December, I think, for the main tree in the sitting room (fake one.)

Then the siver one for the landing sometime during the following week when ds1 is at school so he can't 'help' with the lametta.

And then the real tree for the conservatory/dining room goes up a week before Christmas.

I love Christmas trees.......

(I've actually got another silver one (accidentally double-ordered) but can't find a space for it. Need to move to a bigger house...)
