Or has anyone got thiers up already?

Coming back from school today i happened to notice someone near me has thier tree up, i could see it through the window.

It seems to be getting earlier and earlier each year at this house.

If any of you have started with christmas decorations by now, I would be interested to know what reason you have for doing so [nosy emoticon]

As i myself would be absolutely sick of the thing by christmas day never mind into new year. Beginning of December is early enough for me if i can be bothered, But do aim to have it up by the 25th

Ours goes up the first weekend of December. November just feels wrong, plus its DS's birthday on Nov 25th so our Christmas planning starts after that.

LilRedWG · 05/11/2009 09:40

Weekend before Christmas for me.

gagamama · 05/11/2009 09:56

If it's up for any more than 2 weeks before Christmas, it just feels 'normal' by the time you get to Christmas Day and not magic or Christmassy or special at all. I usually aim for mid-December, or the weekend that falls after it. I like the idea of Christmas Eve, but there's so much other crap festive cheer going on that day that I can't see how I'd possibly fit in erecting a fir and covering it in sparkly shit tasteful decoration.

slushy06 · 05/11/2009 10:19

I love xmas and everything about it I never get bored just irritate others with my ott xmas cheer acting like I have been at the sherry .

I would love to put the tree up now however it is too soon mine will go up first weekend in December. But I don't like it up after xmas it comes down fairly soon as the kids running at the tree xmas morning means it either has to come down or be redecorated and I am lazy like that.

DawnAS · 05/11/2009 10:20

I am a MASSIVE Xmas fan and we've just had our first baby, so it'll be even more fun for the next few years!

I would have mine up now if I didn't think DH would leave home... He he is another one who would put it up on Xmas Eve and down Boxing Day given the choice...

But ours will be going up the first weekend in December, then once DD is in bed, we'll be having mulled wine, mince pies, wrapping the presents and watching the musical version of "A Christmas Carol" starring Albert Finney!!

By the way, I do FULLY understand that at 6 months, our little DD will have NO IDEA what is going on, but it doesn't mean that I can't make a big fuss about it all!!

lolapoppins · 05/11/2009 10:32

It's all too early! We went out shopping on sat and the shopping centre was full of xmas decorations and xmas music!

In this house, Xmas starts on dec 23rd and ends on Boxing day, tree comes down boxing day night! 3-4 days of a tree and assorted xmas crap is all I can stand.

(Bah humbug)

I went past a church the other day and they had a Father Christmas up in the entrance!! If churches are even doing it this early, what hope is there for anywhere else??

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/11/2009 10:47

far too early

normally put our real tree up the weekend before xmas

branflake81 · 05/11/2009 10:48

I can't believe how early some of you put your trees up! Ours goes up the weekend before Christmas Day. Maybe I'm just an old scrooge but it feels more special if it's just up for a short time.

iwanttobepombear · 05/11/2009 10:50

my DH can be really bah humbug about Christmas but loves getting the tree. We go to our local christmas tree farm in the evening when its all cold and dark and the lights are twinkly and spend ages choosing the perfect tree while the kids get cold and bored.

then we put it up the weekend before Christmas, listening to tacky Christmas music whilst I do battle with the tangled lights which may or may not work, at the same time as trying to stop DD2 from putting all the baubles on one branch at her level! I love it

It's down as soon as possible after new year because i can't stand it by then.

Lotster · 05/11/2009 10:59

Oh yes, this is my house since August.

Do make an effort dears!

Flightattendant · 05/11/2009 11:24

Well, last year I stuck ours up on the 30th november 1st December, because I figured I NEED to take it down the day after Christmas or soon after, it is a psychological compulsion, so best to make the most of it! It got boring though.

This year I might go for about halfway through December and then down by new year.

Depending on how many needles fall off.

hormonalmum · 05/11/2009 11:28

I've not read the whole thread but a few years ago I knew of someone celebrating xmas early because of terminal illness. For the sake of a grandmother wanting to see a grandchild's face

Has anyone thought this might be the case?

mrsbean78 · 05/11/2009 12:59

One word: students.

SherryMerryLennipillar · 05/11/2009 13:10

I don't have real trees since we had one ruin a carpet so put them up early December. DH's birthday is 1st December so usually up just before or just after then. Seems a waste to spend money on Christmas decs and then only have them up for a week or two.

That said I take them down pretty sharply after Christmas as DD's birthday is 28th Dec and we end up with no room for cards or birthday balloons otherwise. Poor planning.

marjean · 05/11/2009 13:32

A family at the end of my road puts their tree , wreath and outside lights (and Santa climbing through an upstairs window) up the week the schools go back... in September. I kid you not. My dd has thought Christmas was coming for two months now.

NKffffffffee0f8010X1140828dc0e · 05/11/2009 13:33

I don't mind when people put them up but do get annoyed by the people who take them down on boxing day. Christmas is not a day, it is a holiday that lasts until early Jan and all decorations and festivities should go on until then!

NietinvlanderenAUB · 05/11/2009 13:33

Christmass Eve, and never before...

NietinvlanderenAUB · 05/11/2009 13:35

NKffffffffee, you´re on dangerouis territory telling people what Christmas is about..

PeedOffWithNits · 05/11/2009 13:44

our tree and decs will go up about 16/18th december so the kids get a weeks enjoyment of it BEFORE christmas day, then it will go down on 12th night. If dh got his way, nothing would go up till christmas eve tea time!(his family tradition)

however there is a family in our road that take down their halloween decs (which have been up since mid oct) and replace with the christmas decs any time around now

and another family whose external house decs stay up ALL YEAR (but not lit up, i hasten to add!)

itsbonfirenight · 05/11/2009 13:45

I'd been teaching my daughter about the seasons, concentrating on Autum (being halloween, leaves falling from trees, bonfire night) & Winter time (being christmas, santa and snow)
Beginning of October and we're sitting having lunch at the shopping centre and she look out the window and shouts "mummy, it's winter time!" As the shopping centre across the road has all the christmas lights on and all the christmas trees up, doh!

I'm definitley a beginning - middle of december kinda person - even forgot the advent boxes last year, had to force dp & dd to eat 7 chocs each that day!!!

kitkatsforbreakfast · 05/11/2009 14:13

Ours goes up when the children break up from school for the holidays. We go to choose a tree after I pick them up, then decorate it all afternoon.

ASeahorseIs4LifeNotJust4Xma · 05/11/2009 16:02

Our tree goes up in time for the start of December. My MN name change, however, happens earlier (gotta make the most of the festive season...)

ilovesprouts · 05/11/2009 16:32

my mum is the first person in her stree to put her tree and crimbo stuff up i put mine up the day be ds2 birthday which is 1st dec
