Or has anyone got thiers up already?

Coming back from school today i happened to notice someone near me has thier tree up, i could see it through the window.

It seems to be getting earlier and earlier each year at this house.

If any of you have started with christmas decorations by now, I would be interested to know what reason you have for doing so [nosy emoticon]

As i myself would be absolutely sick of the thing by christmas day never mind into new year. Beginning of December is early enough for me if i can be bothered, But do aim to have it up by the 25th

Mine goes up last few day of November usually.

My DC's all have November birthdays (with the latest the 27th) so can't do it earlier as it would be too weird to have a tree up when it should be birthday banners and balloons. Plus I might be odd but not odd enough to put Christmas stuff up all that early!

IfYouCouldWouldYou · 04/11/2009 17:01

My birthday is 5th january and when i was a kid it didn't feel like it was my birthday if the tree wasn't still up.

Used to follow the 12th night thing but now come new year i start getting fed up with the decorations and the dust so usually they come down before then.

by the way when is 12th night this always confuses me

Well I like to try to get away with not doing it at all and have always had the excuse that dh has never been home for Christmas but he's home this year so it shall be going up around the 20th Dec and down the day after boxing day. Although its not the tree that irritates me its all the bloody cards.

Can't imagine starting this early.. thats madness unless you have a really good excuse (insanity being the obvious one)

Niecie · 04/11/2009 17:23

I knew somebody who claimed to have her's up by 1st October. .

I was when she told me but apparentlyh it was OK as she always took it down Boxing Day as that was her DD's birthday.

Reason for putting them up so early - she just liked Christmas decorations. Funny woman.

We used to put ours up on the first day of the school hols as a child. I aim to do that too although often it is not finished until Christmas eve. Comes down 2nd Jan.

Eve4Walle · 04/11/2009 17:54

Argh, far too early.

Last year, ours onlt made it up the week before Christmas. Can't be doing with the cat playing with it and the kids bashing it about.

May put it up 2 weeks before this year though, just for a change of pace.

Bellissima Must point out though when i said coming back from school i meant picking DC's Up I do actually remember the likely lads

When we were young my Mum used to put it up on the night of the 8th so my DB had it for his birthday. We used to put our (real) tree up quite late as we used to go away for a big chunk of December.

The last few years I have had an artificial tree and it goes up when someone slimmer than me is around to squeeze in the loftwhenever, but does get earlier each year My folks are here last week in November so will go up then

mistletoekisses · 04/11/2009 18:11

I dont have mine up already, but I do know someone who will have theirs up in a week or so. Her brother and his family is coming over at the in November for the first time in years (from australia) and the family are doing an early christmas for all the kids.

Maybe that person has a similar reason for having theirs up???

I love love love christmas, but nothing earlier than Dec for me! I am normally counting down the days.

Am such a big kid.

Wilts · 04/11/2009 18:13

There are two houses up the road from me all decorated, lights in the windows etc.

It would drive me bonkers to have my tree up this early!

MaureenMLove · 04/11/2009 18:14

I have a friend who is planning to put her's up this weekend. She has a DS of 13, who has AS and he needs to have the tree up this early! She hates it, but DS's needs are more important.

Well, seeing as mine didn't actually come down until July, I'm not planning to put it up again too early.....

My db was trying to put ours up yesterday, we all said NO

HopingForASunnyDay · 04/11/2009 21:14

YANBU at all!

I had the bizarre experience last week of emerging from M&S's Christmas Grotto to see a mum smothering her DD in suncream outside the store - was 20 degrees and everyone was sitting outside a cafe in T Shirts - freakish.

It is particularly worrying this year as DF and I are getting married just before Christmas. People putting their trees up in October is only serving to panic me. There's actually nearly two whole months to go, but I am starting to get stressed a lot sooner than I had anticipated...

WidowWadman · 04/11/2009 21:18

Ours will be put up on our daughter's birtday, as her early birth prevented us from buying one last year, so we want to mark the occasion in the future. It's 2oth Dec

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 04/11/2009 21:20

When I was a child we never put the tree up until Christmas Eve. Now we usually put it up the Saturday before Christmas. I would hate to put it up earlier than that - surely it would have stopped feeling special by Christmas Day?

spicybingowings · 04/11/2009 21:32

We're same as you ladyglen and as kids it was always Christmas Eve - it makes Christmas really special I think.

bellissima · 04/11/2009 21:50

WidowWadman - ah that's lovely! My DD2's birthday is mid-December and the tree goes up after that.

DoingTheBestICan · 05/11/2009 07:22

Oh i love Christmas but we wont be putting out tree up till about mid-December.

I always let ds buy a special bauble each year & they always bring back lovely memories when we unwrap them & put them on the tree,oh & its not Christmas unless we are watching Home Alone at the same time.

I do so love walking through the village & nosing through peoples windows gazing at the lights.

stoofadoof · 05/11/2009 08:23

the bank in town here had theirs up the last weekend in september ... even more bizarre cos it's southern hemisphere so just doesn't seem right that its going to be Christmas in summer anyway!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/11/2009 09:05

I like Christmas up to a point. Our dd remarked that it was awfully early for the shops to have trees in - how grown up she sounded, 30 seconds later she was asking if we could put ours up this weekend. I said no.
If I had my way it would be up for two days only, drives me mental and looks untidy despite being tucked into a corner of our very small flat. I think the Swiss put theirs up earlier than the Brits because they have Sami Klaus and his Shmutzli's and they come to call in early December.

Sunshinemummy · 05/11/2009 09:19

Our tradition is to put the tree up on the first Sunday in December. Surely it's madness to have it up now!

ScattyKatty · 05/11/2009 09:22

We have a real tree so even with the no drop needle variety if we had it up before the middle of December the trree would be practically bald by Christmas day with DS knocking in to it all the time

I seriously don't know why anyone would put theirs up before the start of advent.

ClaireDeLoon · 05/11/2009 09:24

Put ours up the weekend before Christmas usually. But often buy it the week before that and have it outside in a bucket of water, otherwise not a good selection left at the garden centre.
