In thinking 17 degrees is a ridiculous house temp in almost November

DH keeps turning the central heating down from 20 to 17 and opening every window in the house because he "thinks it's hot enough"
I am 6 months pregnant, freezing my tits off and getting increasingly annoyed with his stubborn refusal to accept that 20 is a perfectly reasonable temperature and a profligately ridiculous temperature.
He seems to think that most people have their heating on around 15 degrees !

17 would be too hot for us.... 20 would have even dp gasping for air!

18 degrees is my comfort zone. 20 is really quite warm.

Is the tip of your nose cold? Sounds crazy, but that's when I know I need to put a heater on and a jumper just won't cut it.

mine is about 17 deg too. more than that and my 4yo strips down to her knickers. i'd love to have it at 20 being a tropical gal but hate the astronomical heating bills.

mine is at 18-20 (more often 20 in the horrible weather we are having). 17 is freezing - I have to boost the heating when it gets to that temperature (heating is off from around 10am till 4pm)

mine is at 15 now, but boosted to about 17 when it gets chilly, but if you are cold you need the heating up, so it doesnt really matter what the number is

I find 17 fine, but then I hate a hot bedroom.

We have it set to 17 for a couple of hours a day...turn down to 15 at night or if we go out. If it's early morning the thermostat comes on at 18 but rapidly gets too stuffy and warm.

mind you I walk around the house in thick socks and several layers/jumper/etc etc

I would suffocate at 20!
Can you maybe have two different zones in the house - do you have individual stats on the radiators?

I like spain in early summer sort of temp and if DP doesnt like it he can sit in the garden...

Maybe I am just a chilly mortal then... My mum and dad have their heating at 22 so moving in with DH was a shock to the system !
I wouldn't mind the 17 quite so much if it wasn't twinned with the gale rushing through tthe house from the open windows.

We have ours set at 18 - if it's a warm day, we'll turn it to 17, if it's a chilly day (or windy as our house is a bit draughty) we'll turn it up to 19.

The cold nose test is a good one.

Just remember, it's a lot easier to put another jumper on if you're too cold than take stuff off if you're too hot, AND it's much much cheaper. The stats are approximately 10% increase in cost per degree, so if you're rolling in it, then by all means whack the heating up. I'll be putting on a fleecy jumper myself.

Ours is set at 15 - sorry! We turn it down to 12 at night.

We both work from home and the DC aren't old enough for nursery yet so we're all at home in the day. I think if our heating went any higher at this time of year, we'd be skint!

Having said that, I shall of course be turning it up once we get into winter. DC currently seem perfectly happy and warm so don't think there's any great rush.

I always got hot when pregnant - perhaps you're cold when pregnant so tell him it's not your fault?!

I don't get the relevance of it being November. or people turning the heating up when it's chilly outside? how does the outside temperature affect what ou find a comfortable temp inside? surely a comfortable temp is a comfortable temp - regardless of what's happening outside?

HAve you tried putting socks, slippers and a jumper on?
