To think that those people who talk about nurseries and studies are delusional?

I really can't bear it, when our dd was born she had her bedroom, we didn't have a nursery, posh people have those with nannies who sleep in a small room off the nursery.
It is the same with study. Oh, you'll have to wait to speak to X, he's just in the study.
I had the latter conversation yesterday. I know full well that this family live in a flat like us. Is their study next to the non existant ballroom or is it just the spare room with a computer in it?

YANBU my ds2 doesnt even have his own room, he has a corner in my room, its called the 'nursery corner' i have a desk for my laptop and paperwork in my lounge, its called the 'study corner'

YABU - it's just a name for a room with a particular function - i.e. where a baby sleeps or where someone might work from home. What would you call it instead? A home office? If it is the poshness that's the problem, I find the idea of having a "spare room" posher as it means that you have a place so large that you can afford to have a room that is only used when someone comes to stay!

FWIW we don't have a nursery either, DD's AMBY is just crammed into our room. If she gets any bigger, I'll have to look into bonsai techniques so we can still fit her in there.

Well, if their "spare room" has a computer in it, and no bed, then it's not a spare room, it's a study, innit?

We have two of those rooms, one's called my office, one's called dh's office. His is all leather armchairs and pristine maple curved desks.

Mine is generally full of ironing and muddy football boots and a crap ikea desk which is falling to bits.

We have a study - it's too small to be anything else...

Well.. that's not strictly true - I wanted to turn it into a big walk-in wardrobe but DP was having none of it

I turned a large walk in cupboard into an office it's where I do all the accounts for my husbands business and where all our files are kept.

Well we call our extra room "the library", becase it has two bookcases and a desk in it. I am fully aware that I have delusions of grandeur but I've always wanted a library so I just pretend

Our 4 Dcs share the same bedroom but we do have a study... well a table with a computer on in te livingroom but that's the same non?

It is a study if that is all it is used for, in our previous house I had a room that was soley used for my studying. Therefore it was a study. Now dp works from home, he has a room that is just used for his work, therefore he calls it his office.

Not really sure what the problem is.

Yanbu about the nursery. Study is fine I think.
Drawing room used for a room which clearly is not, is another dislike of mine.

YABU. Nursery means very small child's bedroom, ie with a cot in it, for me. Once out of cot I'd call it a bedroom, but no problem with a specific term up till then. We have a study as it's got a desk and pc, plu thousands of books, and is used to work/study in, or very occasionally as a spare bedroom if we put an inflatable mattress in - but the purpose of the room is pretty clear.

Drawing room is short for withdrawing room which is the room that the ladies used to withdraw into leaving the gentleman in the dinning room with the port and cigars.

he might suggest I use the kitchen as mydrawing room and it will somehow defeat the purpose. Will think of something else!

Morning room used for eating breakfast and sitting in reading the paper till lunchtime.

Sitting room used for receiving day visitors and taking afternoon tea.

Drawing room used in the evening.
