For not caring what the kids think?

DP has a terrible habbit of worrying about "getting into trouble" with the kids when we treat ourselves. It really pisses me off.
Like if on a saturday day we say we fancy an indian when the kids have gone to bed, DP will look all worried saying maybe we shouldn't as "all hell will break loose if DSD finds out". Next week we're taking the kids to a halloween night and I suggested fish and chips on the way home as a treat for all of us. DP said "yeah, me and you can get kids meals too" so I said "no, I'll be getting fish and chips " so he said "oh but do you really think we should make the kids get kids meals then as they won't be happy seeing us with fish if they can't have any" ??? ffs so I said that I couldn't care less what the kids thought and they were quite welcome to stay at home and not have any if it bothered them that much.

its like a few weeks ago we got 2 curry and rices to share between me, DP and DSD (they're massive) but as DSD wanted one to herself DP was in the kitchen trying to spread the curry around the plate to make it look like nobody had taken any of 'hers'. It really, really annoys me.

AIBU or is he a wet blanket??

He is a wet blanket. You order a lot of take aways!

mazzystartled · 22/10/2009 14:34

how old are the kids?
3?
he is being a wet blanket
and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy if he isn't careful

TrillianSlasher · 22/10/2009 14:35

You go to work and earn the money, you get to choose how to spend it.

prettyfly1 · 22/10/2009 14:35

yabu for eating so much crap but he is a wuss. My kids wouldnt dare whinge at what I ate.

fernie3 · 22/10/2009 14:37

I try to include the children in treats BUT every now and then we have a treat to our selves.
with the having her own curry it depends on her age - if she is little then she should be willing to share but if she is older then i would have got her one of her own.

LOL at "eating so much crap" - I think prettyfly has a point!

He doent' want them ot moan, does he. Anything for an easy life.

My kids are quite used to me eating lovely things they are not allowed. God forbid they pinch my favourite cheeses or biscuits!

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 22/10/2009 14:39

YA sooooooooooooo NBU & yes, he is being a wet blanket !!!

I take it when you say DSD that this is your step-daughter? Do you have kids together?

WartoScreamo · 22/10/2009 14:40

There's another thread too.

thatsnotmymonster · 22/10/2009 14:40

HIBVU

sorry I just don't get it. They are the kids, you are the adults.

Presumable sometimes they get treats and you don't? Sometimes 'grown ups' are allowed to treat themselves as well without having to be accountable to your dc.

LaurieScaryCake · 22/10/2009 14:41

another first post?

Chickenshavenolips · 22/10/2009 14:41

Ok, can someone spell it out to me in words of one syllable?

I think your DP is the devil. THE ACTUAL DEVIL. He's all about the guinea-pig-carpet-cereal-Weirdy-underwear-inappropriateness.

Just fecking leave him already.

Hulababy · 22/10/2009 14:42

OP has mentioned 3 take aways over a period of time! That is hardly excessive is it?!

I think it is perfectly fine to have a take away just for yourselves whilst DC are in bed.

If DCs are downstairs adnd up then it does seem better to share it with them. But I wouldn't be pandering to one child expecting a full meal to themselves if everyone was sharing.

Dont follow the fish and chip debacle and the kids meal???

prettyfly1 · 22/10/2009 14:43

ooohh - is this the annoying troll from the weekend again?

Hulababy · 22/10/2009 14:43

OK I have obviously missed something here haven't I????

thatsnotmymonster · 22/10/2009 14:44

I'm lost

prettyfly1 · 22/10/2009 14:44

or the one from a while back whose dsd killed guinea pigs, stank of bo, was overweight, and a number of other bizarre issues?

Chickenshavenolips · 22/10/2009 14:45

Thanks Laurie

Disenchanted3 · 22/10/2009 14:45
