...for insisting DD wears a cardi at the wedding? <light heartedly please>

DD is going to be a flower girl at DH's sister's wedding. DD will be one day off two years old. The dress is sleeveless. The wedding is at the beginning of January.

Dresses have been bought and there have been no plans to buy anything to cover them up with. Anything else will apparently ruin the look. (I get that, I've been a bride) But it will be freeeeeezing, DD is very little and there will be hanging round outside as there always is at weddings. So, AIBU to buy a matching-ish coat cardigan and put it on her when they are outside (or inside if it's cold)?

I bought a little cream coloured "fur" bolero type thing from BHS for each of the little bridesmaids. They looked beautiful and suitably posh. They would have been blue with cold otherwise......not an attractive look.

It´s the brides day and no one else gets a say at all.

Can you fit a vest underneath?

Children don´t always feel the cold as much as us, but I would have something ready to slip on.

When DD was a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding in April she had a little cardigan. YANBU - she needs to have one.

Aw you shouldn't have shown me that frogs. I was contemplating a shrug but now I'm veering towards the jacket

I think you need to have something she can put on if cold but at the same time it should be something that meets with the brides approval.
I take it the bride has no children

I think it is perfectly reasonable to put some sort of garment on her outside! The op is not suggesting an old mac or similar.

Does it make a difference if she is going to take the cardi off for pictures etc?

i would say YANBU, as long she takes it off for the ceremony and pics

YANBU , my wedding was january this year and it was freezing, everybody had coats/cardi's on apart from me, my ds was 7 months old and he had his ugly coat on, maybe the bride has forgot during the summer just how cold january actually is, dress her how you like she may be her bridesmaid, but she is still your dd, will she be the one nursing her when she gets a cold?

I would take the cardi off for pictures, as long as they were quick! Will also put her in the thickest vest I can find but her poor little arms... I love the look of a little furry something.

And the bride has no children

i would go with the fur thing.
at least it would look inkeeping with a winter wedding.

if i were to look at a january wedding's photos and see everyone in no sleeves, i would be a trifle and a bit annoyed.
but hten i'm an old woman and feel the cold like mad

oh, i'll just add that even when if i get married in the summer, i'm thinking of wearinga cardi.

and knowing me, it probably won't be clean either! (i love these hallowe'en emoticons!)

I'd take a cardi/jacket too....and whip it off for pics etc.

Although personally I'd rather see everyone in sleeves anyway if I were the bride. I wouldn't want lots of blue goosbumpy flesh in my weddding photos.

this under a long dress and then wip it of at reception - cut of sleeves or unpick them

i was just going to say, go for ski thermals underneath and just cut them to fit.

Even so little blue goosepimply arms aren't a good look either so something over the top that can be whipped on and off sounds ideal.

Depends on how flimsy/fitted the dress is,I guess.

Some of the fur things are lovely, but also pricey for potentially just one day.

Perhaps a cape would be quite easy to make?

I had a cardigan for my sisters February wedding and I'm 31!!

DS had a coat as he was 11 months.

She needs a cardi!

My neice was a bridesmaid at our wedding, a December many years ago. She was 2.10 at the time.

Her dress was a cream sleeveless affair, but I bought her a little wraparound cardigan to go over it and she wore wooly tights under it.

My sister also brought her coat along to wrap her in between photographs and on one of the photographs DH is holding her with a baby shawl (her baby brother's) wrapped around her. It's a lovely shot.

You are right - she will be cold. I arrived at the church to find my matron-of-honour holding my neice with the skirt of her (MOH's) dress lifted up and wrapped around her (she did have an underskirt layer on).

All happy memories! Get DH to talk to his sister or just take a coat along for her whilst outside and between photos. The bride will honestly be too busy to notice.

Maybe point out to the bride that a toddler crying because she is cold is NOT a good look either.
