...for insisting DD wears a cardi at the wedding? <light heartedly please>

DD is going to be a flower girl at DH's sister's wedding. DD will be one day off two years old. The dress is sleeveless. The wedding is at the beginning of January.

Dresses have been bought and there have been no plans to buy anything to cover them up with. Anything else will apparently ruin the look. (I get that, I've been a bride) But it will be freeeeeezing, DD is very little and there will be hanging round outside as there always is at weddings. So, AIBU to buy a matching-ish coat cardigan and put it on her when they are outside (or inside if it's cold)?

yanbu

Buy her a cardi fgs. Down with the Dictatorship of Weddingry.

You need to plan properly for a winter wedding. The only one I've been to, the bride and bridesmaids wore gorgeous long-sleeved dresses in deep blue and green (i.e. bride in blue, bms in green - not stripes) velvet and taffeta. Beautiful and cosy.

YANBU: the wedding won't be enhanced by a grizzling, goosepimpled toddler (or bride).

LOL, is this a record? Have I posted the only ever AIBU with unanimous support?

I shall buy her a suitably weddingy cardi and strike a silent blow against the Dictatorship of Weddingry

My DD was a winter flowergirl at nearly 2.Bride bought her a cardi but requested that she didn't wear it as she walked through the church. But in the evnt she refused to wear it for the photos either.Given there were 3 flower girls all under 2 years , there pictures did not take very long at all.It was like herding cats to try and get them to stand together !!

Just buy the cardi/shrug/bolero thingamy to slip on to her when bride is having bridezilla moments about something else - she can take it off for the official photographs. Just don't make it a big thing with the dictator bride now as it isn't a big thing. My wedding was in Feb and my grown up bridesmaids froze beautifully with me with our feathery shoulder things (though I was on adrenalin so didn't notice the cold). My 9 year old niece had a gorg. little cardi with feathery bits on to matchish and kept warm. All happy.

MissMoopy · 16/10/2009 18:36

Definitely put a cardi on her. She's your child, and she will be freezing other wise. Bridezilla will have to lump it!

slowreadingprogress · 16/10/2009 18:39

I think you should tell the bride that being under-dressed in sleeveless clothes in January, is the ultimate in low class looks.

Looking chavvy with mottled freezing skin is quite likely to 'ruin the look' imvho!

Tillyscoutsmum · 16/10/2009 18:42

YANBU - we got married last winter and dd was a similar age and she wore one of the BhS fur thingies (pic on profile). She also had vest and tights on. Poor little tyke will freeze otherwise

What is this obsession with brides and entourages wearing as little as possible, strapless, backless dresses etc? It just seems a bit skewed.

slowreadingprogress · 16/10/2009 18:55

it's my absolute pet hate. The 1990's and noughties will be looked back on as the era of the vulgar look! Strapless suits only the slimmest and most toned people and even then it's not a very elegant look on them. And wearing big 'wraps' around the shoulders just looks clumsy and like the person is desperate to cover their arms (which lets face it many of us are...) if you want your arms covered, wear sleeves.....

francaghostohollywood · 16/10/2009 19:01

Actually, if the wedding is in January I'd insist on a coat.
YANBU!

Ivykaty44 · 16/10/2009 21:07

this is how you should dresss for a January wedding

BlueBumedFly · 16/10/2009 21:12

I got married in February and have my stepdaughters as my bridesmaids, we had fur wrappy/jackety type things, they looked adorable. Kids can just 'do' fake fur!

BloodshotEyeballs · 16/10/2009 22:06

LOL Ivy
