To be angry that DP fed the DC pizza for breakfast?

This morning. We'd run out of milk and bread (my fault, didn't get round to shopping yesterday) so he put a pizza in the oven for them instead.
He sees nothing terribly wrong with it ("it's just bread and tomato and cheese" says he) but my point it it's essentially junk food, laden with salt and fat. Not what a child needs to keep them going through a morning at school.
And we did have bread rolls in the freezer, which can be defrosted in a couple of minutes, and eggs in the fridge.
AIBU or is he?

I don't think it's a big deal. No worse than sugary cereals that many children start off their morning with.

ramonaquimby · 14/10/2009 17:58

not a big deal as a one off
at least he gave them something

(I think if you weren't there to make something else then you have no cause to complain about it!)

colditz · 14/10/2009 18:00

It's just bread and tomato and cheese. It's not essentially junk food, it's essentially bread and tomato and cheese. YABU

GrimmaTheNome · 14/10/2009 18:00

I would be somewhat amused if it happened just the once but he definitely mustn't make a habit of it. Its probably less bad than bacon and eggs etc ... which are nice once in a while but not a good idea all the time.

TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:00

IT's probably better actually than sugary cereals actually, though I know that wasn't your alternative.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 14/10/2009 18:01

YAB a bit U

I think it's fine. As long as they've got carbohydrates in them, that's a good thing.

overmydeadbody · 14/10/2009 18:02

Lyra YABU

Pizza is not essentially junk food, laden with salt and fat, it probably doesn't have more salt in it that the bread rolls in the freezer (which probably have sugar in them too) and growing children atually need fat in their diets, so nothing wrong with this eaither.

Two slices of toast qitrh butter and marmite probably contain as much salt and fat as the equivelant amount of pizza.

MrsBadger · 14/10/2009 18:02

yabu if it was a one off and it was your fault there was nothing suitable in.

if ti si such awful junk food why is ti in the house at all, eh? ok ot have junk at tea but not at any other time?

tbh it's better than (eg) coco pops for slow release energy over the morning

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 14/10/2009 18:03

It's a one-off, no biggie.

Uriel · 14/10/2009 18:03

My kids'd see it as a bit of fun. Fine as a one-off.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 14/10/2009 18:03

YABU. I would be thrilled if my dh even thought to make our dd her breakfast. He'd probably give her a tin of peas or something rather than take thetime to mooch through the freezer and find something marginally more nutritional than said peas.

overmydeadbody · 14/10/2009 18:03

The carbs in the base and protein in the cheese are what will keep them going through school actually.

mazzystartled · 14/10/2009 18:04

YABU a bit because at least it was food (and if you had it in the house you can't object to it that strongly)

BUT I totally understand why you'd be annoyed - I spend a lot of time and energy trying to ensure the dcs have a decent diet, (not one devoid of treats by any means) so it really pisses me off when funtime daddy decides it's fine to have choc-ice and chips for tea or whatever.

GypsyMoth · 14/10/2009 18:04

if the pizza is so bad why did you have it in the house?

yabu

angry??really? where is the point in that....it was a one off!

unfitmother · 14/10/2009 18:04

Sorry, YAB a bit U.

He improvised, it could have been worse!

Morloth · 14/10/2009 18:05

LOL cold pizza is a special morning treat in our house. In fact we often make a point of ordering a bit more than needed so it is in the fridge ready to go.

Not that different from tossing a frozen one in the oven.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:05

But it just seems ... wrong. Like giving them a burger for breakfast. And pizza is VERY fatty (7.2g of saturated fat per half pizza).

I agree with MrsBadger as well. The pizza was in your house, it is no worse for them at breakfast than at lunch or supper.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:05

We had eggs. he could have done scrambled eggs.

We also have wine in the house. That doesn't mean it's fine to give to the DC for breakfast

OP posts:
TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:07

He fed them. That's the main thing. They left with food inside them, protein and carbs, some fat too which isn't a bad thing.

Besides if you don't think it's appropriate for breakfast then why is it acceptable to have it for dinner?

Morloth · 14/10/2009 18:07

Leftover curry is the best for breakfast.

Or leftover chinese, all thrown into the pan and reheated together.

Burgers not so bad either, bun, cheese, meat, salad.

If it is OK for dinner then it is OK for breakfast I reckon.

TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:07

The wine comment is just silly.

overmydeadbody · 14/10/2009 18:07

So is toast covered in butter Lyra.

This kind of misguided food fanatisism really get to me actually.

TheFallenMadonna · 14/10/2009 18:09

My children would be so thrilled if DH did that. It would be a complete treat.
