To be angry that DP fed the DC pizza for breakfast?

This morning. We'd run out of milk and bread (my fault, didn't get round to shopping yesterday) so he put a pizza in the oven for them instead.
He sees nothing terribly wrong with it ("it's just bread and tomato and cheese" says he) but my point it it's essentially junk food, laden with salt and fat. Not what a child needs to keep them going through a morning at school.
And we did have bread rolls in the freezer, which can be defrosted in a couple of minutes, and eggs in the fridge.
AIBU or is he?

In Thailand DP ate a hot and spicy chicken soup for breakfast every day and loved it.

I'd happily give my children pizza for breakfast every day if they wanted it and I could be bothered to make it (homemade, to ensure no additives/preservatives etc). However, not sure I could part DS2 from his Weetabix, he loves it too much. Or DS1 from his 'All The Breakfasts' (a small amount of every cereal we have in the house, all mixed together).

There was an article in the Guardian the other day about how with some cereals there's actually more nutrition in the cardboard packaging than in the cereal itself.

YABU. While having Piza for breakfast might not be the healthiest of breakfasts, But it won't do your DS any harm and a lot of cerals are sugar laden and very unhealthy.
We have a friend who is allergic to wheat and milk and he often has curry for breakfast!

LyraSilvertongue · 15/10/2009 22:37

Is this friend 5?

YABVU. When I saw that you were 'angry' I thought your DC were tiny babies or not yet weaned, thus making it shocking. They are five and seven? This was actually, definitely well-balanced. When people disagree with you, you should never retort 'it's only because I care about my DC' - everyone here cares about their DC. Put simply: YOU UTTER FOOD SNOB.

"I'd say none of them have. But it's ok for my children.
In the end there's no harm done. "

I have. Amongst many other things. And they often get weetabix for dinner. Get over yourself (and don't post in AIBU if you don't think there is a remote possibility that YABdeeplyU!)

Coming late to this, but as someone who spends a lot of time thinking about the dcs nutrition and is probably considered quite mad in some quarters, I agree with the overwhelming majority that YABU and oven baked pizza for breakfast occasionally is fine. I have never served it for breakfast, but would be quite happy to. I wouldn't be so keen on dial-a-pizza, but if its the pizza I'm prepared to give them for dinner, then I have no problem with them having it for breakfast. Ds has pizza in his lunchbox once every 3 weeks. We tend to buy bases and then top it with homemade tomato-based sauce (frozen in batches), mushrooms, sweetcorn & cheese.

In fact, I think its better than most breakfast cereals, jam/honey on toast or many many other things your dh could have chosen.

Mine quite regularly have pasta for breakfast (either white or wholemeal) with things like cheese sauce, bolognase with veg, grated parmesan (perhaps with a side order of fruit and some dried fruit), or homemade multi-veg tomato sauce. They're not keen on a lot of breakfast foods, so I try to serve relatively healthy options that they do like and will eat. They also get beans on toast and various other combinations of yogurt, toast, dried & fresh fruit etc.

Even wheatabix contains added sugar.

I would serve anything in preference over a Nestle cereal like shredded wheat.

this week ds has had chocolate mousse, chocolate brioche, croissants, yoghurts, nothing, and pringles for his breakfasts....

I work on the "something is better than nothing" when his feet are so firmly digging in and it's 5 minutes before we leave and he STILL hasn't eaten anything

pizza is positively balanced imo!

(this week is NOT typical, by the way)

A big deal if it keeps happening or if he becomes the fun parent because of that.
Not a big deal if an exception.

StealthPolarBear · 30/08/2012 21:08

Zombies ironically has resurrected this

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 30/08/2012 21:18

Uh oh. That'll teach me to comment without seeing the date Blush
That's two year old pizza, that is. In that case, she is NBU Wink

SchrodingersMew · 30/08/2012 22:26

Seeing this brought back to life has made me hungry for last nights pizza that's in the kitchen. :o

SchrodingersMew · 30/08/2012 22:27

Zombies How did you even come across this? It's ancient, lol.

pinkyredrose · 30/08/2012 22:51

In Japan they eat fish for breakfast! Think i'd rather have the pizza!

sashh · 31/08/2012 07:52

Surely the best time for a child to have a fatty meal is in the morning so that they can run around and work it off.

Personally I don't drink milk so no ccereal for my breakfast, I do tend to do the German / Dutch breakfast, bread, ham cheese and some fruit.

I've been known to have fish for breakfast, usually kippers.

I fail to understand why a bacon sandwich is fine for breakfast but not a ham sandwich?

But YANBU - he should have taken them through McDonalds drive through on the way to school.
