To be angry that DP fed the DC pizza for breakfast?

This morning. We'd run out of milk and bread (my fault, didn't get round to shopping yesterday) so he put a pizza in the oven for them instead.
He sees nothing terribly wrong with it ("it's just bread and tomato and cheese" says he) but my point it it's essentially junk food, laden with salt and fat. Not what a child needs to keep them going through a morning at school.
And we did have bread rolls in the freezer, which can be defrosted in a couple of minutes, and eggs in the fridge.
AIBU or is he?

Headlesswombat, that was in response to the 'well, it was in your house' comments.

(7.2g of saturated fat per half pizza).

that'll be the cheese yes?

so if he'd given them cheese on toast ok?

TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:10

Even so it's a silly comparison.

cory · 14/10/2009 18:10

yes, are they allowed cheese?

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:11

I don't tend to give them cheese on toast for breakfast. More likely slow release carbs like porridge which will see them through till lunchtime.

Bit of butter/oil in the pan for scrambled eggs? Served on buttered rolls/toast?

Do you really think your body gives two hoots whether the protein and carbs and fat it gets as fuel came from socially acceptable foodstuff for that time of day or not?

Stop stressing, as a one off it's not like your childrne are going to be harmed by it are they?

overmydeadbody · 14/10/2009 18:13

Lyra bread contains slow release carbs too actually

unfitmother · 14/10/2009 18:13

We're on page 2 now and nobody shares your anger.

TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:13

Cheese on toast would probably be better actually. More protein which is generally more filling than carbs.

eyetunes · 14/10/2009 18:13

YABU - He fed them . Twas not a plate of choc or biscuits.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:14

There are a lot of 'well at least he fed them' types comments, as if that's the most that can be expected of a man.
And there were alternatives to pizza available, he just didn't think of them.

OP posts:
colditz · 14/10/2009 18:14

Why wouldn't you give them cheese on toast? It's filling, nutritious and slow release.

Pizza is just cheese on toast with tomatoes on. Just because it hasn't occurred to you doesn't make it wrong.

I suspect you are having a knee jerk "They will tell the teacher they had pizza for breakfast and she will judge me!" reaction.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 14/10/2009 18:15

Jeez, it was one day. Of course slow-release carbs is ideal, but this is a bit control-freaky (if you don't mind me saying, in the nicest possible way )

colditz · 14/10/2009 18:15

I would say the same to a man oaning that his wife gave the children pizza for breakfast simply because I do not think pizza is inappropriate. can you actually articulate why pizza is inappropriate compared to, eg a fried breakfast, a bacon sandwich, cheese on toast?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 14/10/2009 18:16

Is this more about your DH being annoying in general ?

FranklyIDontGiveAMam · 14/10/2009 18:17

Yes, - divorce him immediately.

Open your mind fgs.

TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:17

FFS If the pizza was topped with slug pellets you may have a point. It's an adequate breakfast. I fail to see the superiority of your eggs, protein like the cheese, and rolls, a source of carbs like the pizza base. And the pizza had tomatoes so there's lycopene too.

Tortington · 14/10/2009 18:18

quick thinking regarding the breaky there i think - better than nowt.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:18

Yes he is a bit annoying in general
And he does have form for this kind of thing, like letting them eat sweets before breakfast.
Maybe I should have said annoyed rather than angry in the title (too late now).

YABVU. There is nothing unhealthy about pizza unless it's coated in grease, which frozen, oven cooked ones aren't.

'It just feels wrong' is not a good reason to be angry - just a daft social expectation that you eat certain things at certain times of the day. It was a pretty healthy breakfast IMO.

Mine had apples and oat biscuits for breakfast this morning. If DH were angry with me about that, I'd be livid.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:20

What's wrong with apples and oats?

OP posts:
cory · 14/10/2009 18:20

I didn't know there was anything wrong with cheese for breakfast. In Scandinavia, where obesity levels are far lower than here, a standard breakfast food is bread and cheese, washed down with glasses of milk. This would be considered a healthy breakfast, served by the conscientious mother. Your dh has added tomatoes to that, which can hardly detract from its nutritional value. Protein, vitamins, carbs- what's not to like? Why would scrambled eggs be more nutritious?

colditz · 14/10/2009 18:21

WHat's wrong with pizza?

TheHeadlessWombat · 14/10/2009 18:21

I'm sure that someone could find something to complain about apples and oats just as you object to pizza.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/10/2009 18:21

I never thought pizza would be seen as a perfectly healthy breakfast on MN. You learn something new every day.
I expect this thread would receive a different response if it wasn't in AIBU though...
