to WANT to change my name to DH's?

fedupintheoffice · 13/10/2009 17:50

I am soon to be married to my very long term partner. Everyone is saying how very stupid and foolish I would be to take DH's surname as it sounds so similar to my first name. I really, really want to take his name and don't care if people make fun.

AIBU and setting myself up for a life of misery?

Depends on the name I guess?!

Go on, tell us

Seriously though, if you're happy to do it then it's nobody else's business.

sowhatis · 13/10/2009 17:54

double barrel the surname if its that much of an issue.

AngryFromManchester · 13/10/2009 17:55

My sister took Jones, when her first name was Joan, then again my aprents gave me a rhyming middle name

fedupintheoffice · 13/10/2009 17:59

I really don't want double-barrelled at all for reasons you are going to find out below.

My name is Henrietta (boak!!!) and my surname is Black but for my entire life, since the day I was born i've been known as Hattie. DP's surname is Batty. Disaster!

So i'll be Hattie Batty! Double barrelled Hattie Black-Batty!

I love it! Hattie Batty is adorable! Nobody can say that name and not feel happy.

It doesn't say if you have/are having children, but if you do/have- it's nice to all have the same surname. The Batty family sounds great. xx

Also DD1 is Roberta, known throughout her life as Bobbie and would also be changing her surname to DP's or double-barrelled if we choose.

Bobbie Black-Batty...

It also reminds me of an old Fry and Laurie sketch.

"I have a daughter, Henrietta"
"Did he? I'm sorry to hear that."

Blu · 13/10/2009 18:07

Hattie Batty will certainly not be forgotten.

But then Batty will always raise no end of smart alec comments whatever your first name.

Blu · 13/10/2009 18:09

And you must immediately have a DS, Matthew, known as Matty Batty. And his twin, Patricia.

But stay off the donuts - you don;t want to be known as the fatty battys.

fedupintheoffice · 13/10/2009 18:17

We already have the dog called Tatty!

I must remember to clean babies dirty nappy otherwise we might be the shatty batty's!

When we're bitching about other people - the catty batty's

and when DP comes home drunk 2 hours later than usual - the twatty batty!

Your name- your rules.

Tee2072 · 13/10/2009 18:18

I like it! Also, I love having the same surname as my DH and our DS. I don't get not wanting to change it, I really don't.

pooexplosions · 13/10/2009 18:20

Fedup..you made me snort ine out of my nose!

Ouch , but thank you... I needed a laugh

I think Hattie Batty is the best name I ever heard.

fedupintheoffice · 13/10/2009 18:20

Thanks for your replies

Is it better as:

Hattie Batty
OR
Hattie Black-Batty
?

pooexplosions · 13/10/2009 18:20

that was meant to be wine, not a line, or anything else dodgy...

JemintheGraveyardwithghouls · 13/10/2009 18:22

It is your choice- ignore what others say.

I took my DPs name when we got married, but it was a massive upgrade...I had a really awful surname before.

fedupintheoffice · 13/10/2009 18:24

Ha ha ha @ your name pooexplosions!

Pleased to make you laugh!

P.S. one of DP's cousins married a lady with the surname Wild and they decided to double-barrel, so they're the Wild-Batty's!

And now I have that song in my head, with just one letter changed....
whoa, black batty (bam-A-lam)
whoa, black batty (bam-A-lam)
Black batty had a child (bam-A-lam)
The damn thing gone wild (bam-A-lam)
She said "I'm worrin' outta my mind" (bam-A-lam)
The damn thing gone blind (bam-A-lam)
I said oh black batty (bam-A-lam)
whoa, black batty (bam-BA-lam)

ok I'm done now...

fedupintheoffice · 13/10/2009 18:25
